Trying to locate Kate (Kathleen) Toomey of somewhere around Acton, MA. There are so many Kate Toomey's in MA, though! This one is perhaps around 55-60 and used to work for Digital/DEC, in export control for a while, very tall and slender. I have been out of touch with her for many years.
If you know her or are her, please let me know.
Thanks.

Thomas Jeremiah Toomey - Ancestors and Siblings

I'm seeking information about the parents and/or siblings of my great-grandfather, Thomas Jeremiah Toomey (b. 1859 Ireland; d. 1934, New York). His obituary in the NY Times of November 13, 1934 reads: "TOOMEY-Thomas J., on Nov. 12, at his home, 2,477 Ocean Av., Brooklyn, beloved husband of Ellen Sullivan, father of the Rev. Jeremiah Toomey, Mary Campion and Thomas Toomey, brother of Patrick Toomey, Nora Fariel, Minnie McShane and Nellie McAdam. Mass of Requiem Thursday, 10:30 A.M. at St. Edmund's Church, Ocean Av. and Avenue T, Brooklyn. Interment Calvary Cemetery."

I have a great deal of information about his children and their families, and I’ve found some information about the descendants of his brother, Patrick, but I’d like to learn more about him and about the other brothers and sisters mentioned in the notice. I’d also like to know about their ancestry.

Any help or information is appreciated.
That's very interesting, Rob - One of the "unnamed" people I am looking for is an RC priest somewhere in the NY area with whom my grandmother was very attached, and who she used to visit from time to time; I expect that the priest had married her to my grandfather (circa 1915). I will look into his parish - thanks for the clue!

And yes, I am writing everything down! All best, Mara

My research has taught me to write everything down, that is - take great notes. I have found that these notes come in handy years later when I find another piece of the puzzle.

Rob

Hello Mara,
John Toomey was born approximately 1830 in Ireland. I'm not certain what year he immigrated to the United States (before 1850). I don't have any information on his siblings or parents, don't even know their names. Thankfully, I have pretty good records concerning his children. One child was Thomas J. Toomey who was a very popular Catholic priest at St. Joseph's Church in Newark, NJ (late 1800's).

Rob

I am trying to find my Toomey connections. There were many sisters, some brothers, who congregated in Newark off the boat. Then another family named Russell that she married into in Greenwich. I have some of the sisters' names, and that is how I found your location. (It's such a common name that driving it back to identify which one was my grandmother requires circling other wagons.

My grandmother Mary Toomey was born in Inniscarra, Ireland, near Macroom, around 1885-87 and emigrated between 1910-1915. She allegedly had been booked (steerage, probably) on the Titanic, but supposedly "missed the boat". She is not listed on the passenger list. She left behind several siblings in Inniscarra, and met up with several others here. Am researching now. Any info you have discovered would be most appreciated.

I can't help you with Margaret, but perhaps you can help me. My great-grandmother was Abbie (perhaps Abigal) Toomey and she immigrated from Ireland in 1860. Her father was Michael and her mother was Abbie. She married Julius Dupree in Holyoke, MA 24 Nov. 1872. I recall my mother (Abbie Dupree was her grandmother)talking about visiting Toomey relatives living on Franklin Street in Bridgeport, CT. Could they be related to you in any way that you know to your Toomey family? I don't know anything more about Abbie except that Julius died sometime between 1880 and 1900 and they had six children: John, Ida, Frank, Abbie, Edward, and Grace. Thanks for any help.

I called my mom, Madonna, who is Edward & Mary's granddaughter. However, she is suffering from shingles and not up to talking. She wants to in a few days.

I did find the following about Daniel Toomey on the website for Old St. Michaels in Holbrook, Iowa:

http://oldstmichaels.com/cemetery/directory/

1122) Toomey, Daniel. Died March 9, 1888, aged 65 years, 4 months. -B3/B4

I found more on Holbrook, Iowa on this website:
http://www.hinkletown.com/ghosttowns.html

Many Irish settled in Holbrook, now a ghost town in Iowa.

My first name is Cindy (Cynthis). My maiden name is Murray and I grew up in NW Iowa, but have lived in California since 1984.

This may be duplicate info. for you but finding your post has really enthused me to work on my family history.

Thanks!

Edward and Mary Toomey are my great-grandparents. Their son, Daniel Raher, was my grandfather. He and his wife, Lenore, raised 10 children in Sioux City, Iowa. My mother, Madonna, is the 9th of the 10 children. She is still alive as are four other siblings, including the oldest son (Daniel) and oldest daughter. I will try to find out about Daniel Toomey for you. I now live in California but return to Iowa a couple times a year. Where do you live?

Hi,
My father William J Toomey, died 02/02/06. He was born in 1926 to William J Toomey and Delia O'Sullivan Toomey. He had four brothers, Robert (still alive), Daniel(pssed),John(passed), Stephen (died @ infancy). I have no real ancestry besides this my father had a bad childhood and did not speak much of it. His Mom died very young and his father drank heavily. I seem to remember someone speaking of a Cornelius Toomey in my Dad's family. I believe my grandfather came from Ireland and first went west and then came back North. That is all I know. thank you Tara

I am interested in finding info on Sarah's father, Frank Mullen Sweeney who married to Margaret Irene Benedict on 6/21/1919 in Winnebago Co, WI.

Toomey-Johnson-Connor Macroom Co Cork

I am seeking any information on the following.
Margaret Johnson daughter of Margaret Toomey and Woodsford Johnson from Macroom County Cork, Ireland. I believe Margaret Johnson was born about 1829 but I could be way off. Family notes say she came to this country with the Finnigan's (spelling?) and Connor's. They settled in Bangor, Maine. Margaret Johnson eventually married John Connor. Margaret and John are my great great grandparents.
Family notes say Woodsford Johnson was born in England.
Lynn Deen / macdoolke@aol.com
