I knew Harry Torgerson from the time I was about 5 years old. He lived around the corner. He lived in Valley Stream NY on Long Island. He playef football for Central HS and before the wass played on the Red riders 9or Ryders) semi pro team in VS at The Firemens' Field in that town. He went into the marines and I believe you know his record in the war. I believe he went on a Bond buying tour when he returned from Guadalcanal and was married for a short time.
After the war I saw him quite often. He drove a blue pickup truck and would always wave and would usually stop for a chat. He lived at that time about a block away. He was always very friendly. I last saw him in 1954. I was on the way to the library and I stopped to talk to him for awhile before I went. He died suddenly the next day while doing the lawn where he lived. He was a great guy and i have some stories about him. I'm a doctor and work at a VA Hospital. I have met a number of Marines who also knew Harry in the service and told me other stories about him. He had a profound effect on me. I went into the service (Army) was in Vietnam and went into the USAR and ended up a Major General. A lot of this was due to his influence. My Aunt and Uncle graduated with him from Central HS in VS. You could find out some more about him if you contacted the VS Mail and Gibson Herald. Hoped this helped and did not confuse you too much. Ray Bonnabeau

Nina Christine Torgerson -

I have found the listing of my great grandmother on the 1885 Minnesota census for Otter Tail County (Nina Christine Torgerson, b. abt 1875). I am having trouble finding information on her parents, Ole Torgerson and Kari (Carrie). From the 1885 and 1890 census, it appears Nina's other siblings were Sarah, Martin, Teandor, martin, John, Olaus, Ingeborg (Julia). Is there anyone out there who might be researching sibling information who can direct me further on the parents' history?

Thank you for your reply. I am so excited to receive some information. This is my husbands family and we were aware that Johann may have been adopted. It was rumored he was born a "Jacobson." Could we compare notes on what other genealogy you have gathered? I thought perhaps there was a link to your Christine, since one of Edward's sons named his daughter Christine. What does the phrase "in his cups" mean in your reply? Again, I am grateful for your information. Thank you.

I'm a descendent of the Deerwood, MN,Torgersons, my mother being Christine Torgerson Sandell. According to a family Bible in my possession (the writing, I believe is my mother's), Johan was born Dec 23, 1836, and died Oct 25, 1919, probably in Deerwood MN. (I vaguely remember seeing the stone.) Ane, his wife, was born Aug 16, 1828 & died Aug (?-misspelling) 1910. There are hints that my grandfather Anton John Torgerson may not have been his son. This has to be information on the level of rumor. My mother claimed that Aunt Anna Nelson said that Johan would berate her Ane when he was in his cups.

I am looking for information on Severin Torgerson's family. Severin is my great grandfather and Leonard C. Torgerson is my grandfather. Severin died in Portland in April 1909 and was born in either 1866 or 1867. I think he had a brother Theodore and sister Olave. There is a Severin Torgenson in the 1880 census in Duvall, Washington. This family has a Severin, Theodore and Olave. Does anyone know anything about the Torgenson family in the 1880 Duvall census, Christian, Cecelia, Severin, Ter., Theodore, Milla., Annetta, Antonea and Olave? Theodore might have ended up in Minnesota and Olave in Alaska.

Thank you so much for this information. May I ask how you came by it. Are you also researching this family? I have been searching for this family day and night and had no luck in this census year.

In this document you have found you have given us the first glimpse in the US of Martine's mother. Gurso/Gurro/Guri is Martine's mother from Norway. I have not seen information on her since the 1865 Census in Norway.

I have been searching for her and her husband Martin Olson with no luck. Now I see in this census she used her maiden name not her married name. In the 1865 Census in Norway she is listed as Guri Knudsd. (knudsdatter / knud's daughter). Martine Martinsd. (Martinson) is only 16 years old in that census.

Have you ran across Martine's father, Martin Olson in the 1880 Census? Until a few months ago we didn't know Martin and Guri even came to the US. Why are they so hard to find? :-)

Thank you again for all your help.

Ole K. Torgerson, born Norway abt 1885, son of Ole/Greta, lived Ashland Co., WI

I have an original studio photograph of “Ole Torgerson”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in Ashland (Ashland Co.) WI in around 1905 (+ or – a few years, based on the type of photo). Ole looks to be about age 20 in the photo.

In the 1920 census for Ashland, WI, I found Ole K. Torgerson, age 35, born Norway, and immigrated in 1894. Wife was Dora E., age 22. In the same location was Gretta Torgerson, age 63, born Norway, with three other children in their 20s. I went back to 1900 census to find Ole, but found only Greta (born Sep 1855), wife of Ole Torgerson (born May 1847) – so by 1920, he was not with family.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Ole K.
