I am researching a branch of the Torrens from Markethill, Co Armagh, so would be interested in exchanging information with you, if you are still researching your family? Which part of Armagh does your family come from?
Patsy

Hello, my name is Joseph. My father was born in Puerto Rico on 11/23/1930 - he passed away in Aug 85. His name was Raul Torrens. He joined the Air Force at some point in his life. He met my mother Margaret in San Antonio, TX. Because he was in the Air Force he was stationed at various military bases throughout the US. I was born in Anchorage, Alaska on 2/8/1963. My birth name is Roy Joseph Torrens but most documents have me listed in the following way - R. Joseph Torrens because Ive always gone by my middle name - Joseph. Anyway - I was curious if my father's last name of Torrens and his Puerto Rican background links us in any way. I would think it would because I don't think there are a lot of people in Puerto Rico with the last name of Torrens that are not related in some way but Ive never been to Puerto Rico so I really wouldnt know.

RJT
William J Torrens

I am for any information on a William J Torrens (unsure what the "J" stood for - if any indication in family line it's probably John). He was born 08 1868 (according to census records) he immigrated from Ireland in 1871. The only clue as to where is Coleraine, Ireland, so I've been told. He was married to Henrietta Marguerite Harrison April 13, 1898. They had children Maud, Robert Jack, Harry/Frank (twins), Marie/Marion?, & Robert Jr. I can see according to all of the records that I have found he was listed as a Torrence, Torrance, or Torrens. I have all of the children's birth records and they all show the last name as Torrens. They lives in the York County Ontario Canada area thru both 1901 & 1911 census. This could be either Toronto area or Sutton area (both called York Counties)

Any possible info about him would be greatly appreciated.

Naomi,

I currently live in Australia but my origins are South Down where my Torrens line is from Dundrum near Newcastle - I can get back to about 1770 ish where my ancestor was a John Torrens Labourer/farmer - I have come to a dead end and am trying to ascertain where the Dundrum Torrens come from - my guess is Scotland. Incidently there is a second Roman Catholic Torrens line in the same location. Can you help?

Regards

Roland

Lizzie Torrens?

My Great Grandmother is somewhat of a mystery figure in my family tree. Her name was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Torrens..or ..TorrENCE or...TorrANCE or ToRRINS depending on the record. Her gravestone has her listed as elizabeth Torrance. Info posted by someone here on Ancestry.com's data base, hase her listed as Elizabeth Torrence, But her marriage certificate has her listed as "Lizzie Torrins".

The only information i have regarding her, is that her family, was supposedly (according to family legend), from Londonderry Ireland, Before emigrating to the US. She had a Sister here, in NYC. Margaret Jameson Hall, wife of William James Hamilton Hall. Of Shepherd Street, Brooklyn, NY. This is where she married my Great Grandfather, John James Hislop.

I've recently come across some Hall descendents, who do have information regarding Lizzie "TORRENS", as they have the last name spelled, but I am looking for further leads. Any info available, would be much help. Thank you.
