Seeking information on Hugh Torrington and his wife, Jane Potter.

Two of their daughters were baptized in St. Decumans, Somerset County, England:
Joan and Sarah were both baptized 4 Dec 1768.

I believe they had two sons by the name of William and Andrew. Edward died as a child
3. Edward died as a child
4. Elizabeth married William Symons (and they owned the Green Dragon, I've been told)
5. John died as a child
6.
Thanks for answering my query. I am NOT related to Paul Torrington. I am the Registrar of the Kansas Society, Sons of the American Revolution (www.sar.org). Paul Torrington was one of our earlier members. I wanted to update the societies records pertaining to him. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Re: Paul Torrington

Dear Timothy,
I read your post about Paul Torrington with a great amount of interest, as my great-grandfather was a Torrington,
William James Torrington of Wichita, Kansas. He and Paul Torrington were first cousins; their fathers, Robert E. Torrington & John Torrington were full brothers. There were many Torrington siblings, as their father had 3 wives.

The Torrington surname is very unusual, and I have researched the family, with some help from a great-aunt, back into Ireland and forward into the 1930's. I believe I even have a picture of Paul Torrington as a young boy, with his parents John and Mary Fryling.

The info. I have on Paul Torrington is that was born in Sunbury, PA, on 1 April 1872, and that he married Margarite Weiss 1 June 1906. They had a son, William Paul Torrington, in 1908. Paul Torrington was believed to be an artist in New York City, and died in Greenwich, Connecticut, on 7 November 1942.

I communicated briefly with William Paul Torrington, of Indiana, who was very gracious and we shared an avid interest in the Torrington research. He has since passed away and I shall miss his correspondence.

I know very little about Paul Torrington's mother, Mary Fryling, only her birth date. Her ancestry is posted through the Family History Library, but I have not been able to document much. I know that the family was mentioned in a 1905 "Who's Who of Topeka, Kansas," and that John was associated with the railroad...his brother, R.E. Torrington was termed the "Grand Old Man of the Santa Fe," upon his death in 1944. It seems that several of the Torrington siblings made their mark with the railroad. Would you happen to know the date/location of Mary Fryling's death?

I would enjoy corresponding with you, and if you would like to see the photo of Paul Torrington, I will gladly make you a copy.

Buffie Smith-Mason
Paul Torrington was born on Apr. 1, 1872 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Later, he lived in Topeka, Kansas. I am trying to determine his exact death date & death place.

In 1895, he joined the Sons of the American Revolution. His Revolutionary War ancestor was:

Henry Yoxtheimer (1753-1833), a Private from Pennsylvania. His wife was Maria

Julia Marsh was my great grandmother. Everybody always says she married a Charles but this is incorrect. He did go by Charles by his full name was Arthur Charles Torrington. I am also having problems finding any information concerning these two. I can tell you that my grandfather, their son was born in Shellbrook Sask. in 1918, and that they had seven children. So if you have any info or dates that I could put into my records it would be appreciated.
