Tessa:
My grandmother was a direct relation to the Touchards, the Huguenot Branch of the Touchard family in Spitalfields/Bethnal Green London England. Her family name became changed to Tushaw, (most people could not
read or write until about 1850), but we have direct links to the original Touchard who came over, ( we think), to escape persecution by Louis 14th about 1705. His name was Mathieu Touchard, and his family carried on as silk weavers right up to about 1890. I think it is you who has a link to John Touchard, (1812-1876). You probably already know that his first family were wiped out by disease. ( Four children died under 9, within a month, in 1848).
If I am correct you may well be the 'missing link'!! You can e-mail me via this number to ask me any questions you may have about the 'London' side of you family.
