Could the name Toussaint be a derivative of the name Tusson?
There is no offense intended here. I have encountered many similarities in my name search. Many slaves of plantation owners took or were given the last names of the plantation owners for identification.
In researching the Bercegeay family roots, the name Tusson is listed as a decendant from St. Landry Parish, Nantes,France.
It states Louise Tusson was a native of St James Parish in Louisiana. She was the daughter of Jean-Baptiste Tusson. It also states that Jean-Baptiste Tusson was a cotton planter here in Louisiana prior to living in France.
It is not clear how Louise Tusson met Rene' Bercegeay, since he was a resident of France and she was a resident of Louisiana. It seems their meeting had taken place during the turmoil of Napoleon I military ventures and had seized control of the entire country.
