Ola to one and all Tovars, the military Tovar is Pedro de Tovar who came to the new world in the mid 1500's and was the Chief Ensign of the Cardenas exploratory army that was part of Coronado's unit. HE is given credit for having found the Hopi Indian sites and one of the first to peer into the Grand Canyon, he died as the Alcalde (Mayor) of Culiacan, Mex and as far as I have found out, we are not of Russian origin, we come from an area in north central spain, where Sancho Fernandez was given title of Sancho de Tovar for his work with the king against the Moors, Tovar was/is an area where the earth is soft loamy clay, ergo Tovar, hope this helps, you can google Pedro de Tovar and find a lot of info
