Nancy,
I have have the death certificate for Stanley but have not gotten the death cert for Leona Mae. Stanley's death certificate only mentioned his parents and his wife but no other family members. I wrote to Leona but my letter was returned unopened as she had passed away. I could pursue obituaries but haven't been back to that part of Michigan in quite some time. I wanted to contact their children or other family members but have been unable to find out their names or locate them. Do you have a connection to the family? Jim

Do you have a copy of either of their obituaries? If so, have you done a search for any family members mentioned? My favorite search site for live people is

http://www.zabasearch.com/

Free site, have had a lot of success. Used for school reunion, etc.

Nancy
Family of Stanley E. Tower

I am trying to contact family of Stanley E. Tower and his wife for exchange of information. He was born in the Detroit area on May 23, 1923. He died on February 16, 1995 in Big Rapids, Mecosta, Michigan. His wife's name was Leona Mae (maiden name unknown). She was born in 1922. They lived for a time in Evart, Michigan. Stanley was the son of Pierce Decker Tower and Gladys (Stahl) Tower. Stanley was my father's brother.

I have a lot of information on this branch of the Tower family and hope to enlarge it by trading information and photos with members of Stanley's family.
Hi, my name is Nicole Partridge (nee Tower).

My branch of the Tower family was also based in Islington/Holloway. I have come across the names of your branch in my research but do not know if/or where the link is!

My grandad was Leonard E Tower and his father was George John Tower who married Louisa Lilley.

A large part of my family was killed my a V2 bomb on boxing day 1944 in the Prince of Wales Pub, does this sound familiar?

I have also heard whispers of a link to Belgium but again I do not know how or where? Do the names Sheila and Ernie mean anything to you?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Nicole

He is listed on the 1880 Census in La-Red River Parish-4th Ward-District 43. His wife is Ellen V. & Sanders, Lutie A., sister-in-law. C. V. Was born in LA, Fa-Vermont, Mo-LA. The next household is Elizabeth Tower, age 52, b-LA. Children are William E., Frank C., George M., & Martha M. If any of these names are in your family, I will gladly pass along a copy of the marriage record. I was searching for the Towers name and this was among my copies from the courthouse here in Cooper.

Hi Candace,

I believe it is a variation in spelling. Everything was spelled quite phonetically in those days. I know the Corthell name is associated with the Tower name. There is a reunion in Hingham, MA, June 26-28th, 2009 if you are interested. You can go to www.towergenealogy.com for information.

Actually I figured out which post you responded to. It was from a different line entirely. My Cummings side but in it I mention my mother, Garland Tower marrying my father Warren Cummings. This is the descent line:

Patricia Cummings (11) (me), Garland Tower (10), Clifton R. (9), Schuyler (8), Alvin (7), Martin (6), Thomas Groce (5), Shadrach (4), Thomas (3), Benjamin (2), John (1).

Which line are you from?

Dave,
Stanley's brother Pierce was my father. I would be most happy to give you information which I have on him and others in that line. I have been writing a history of our branch of the Tower family for about 2 years for my brother's children. I have been trying to get in contact with Stanley's descendants but I started late after both Stanley and his wife had passed away and am having difficulty. I am hoping to make contact with Stanley's descendants so we can get reacquainted and trade information. I would prefer to provide you the information outside of this message board. I think I already may have your email address so I will check for it. Jim

His wife's name was Leona Mae (maiden name unknown). She was born in 1922. They lived for a time in Evart, Michigan.

I have a lot of information on this branch of the Tower family in Michigan and hope to enlarge it by trading information with members of Stanley's family.

My grandad was called Henry J Tower (married Margaret Mckay nee Taylor) and his dad was Arthur Ernest Tower (brothers and sisters called Thomas G, Maud, James,Alice) who married Amelia Wilkinson. Arthurs dad was John G Tower (born abt 1845) who married Elizabeth. They all lived in the Islington/st Pancras area of London. I have no information of anyone 'Tower' anymore except my immediate family who now live in Wales.

I know i have conections somewhere in Canada and possibly Belgium but if anyone has heard any of these names please get in touch.
Jonathan Tower Jr. had two wives??

Well folks, I appologize I never got back to you. My email address had changed, and so when you replied to my query, I was never notified. But to answer your question, unfortunately the Tower book was taken offline a long time ago.

The real reason I am on here today is that I made an interesting discovery this morning that I wanted to share. I figured I'd post it and hopefully someone sees this and might find it helpful. Please let me know if you have anything to add :)

Jonathan and E. Tower's son, Jonathan Jr., married Elizabeth Graham in 1846 Switzerland Co., Ohio. This much we know. Here they are four years later:

1850 Pleasant, Switzerland Co, IN
Jonathan Tower Jun., 24, farmer, born IN
Elizabeth, 22, born IN
Almira, 2, born IN
George Henry, 3 mos., born IN

After that, they seem to fall off the face of the earth. (Or so I thought!) I still cannot find them ANYWHERE in 1860. I found something that looked promising for 1870 & 1880 awhile back, so I added it to my file and didn't take it any further until today:

1870 Union, Madison, IN-- all born IN except Nancy
Jonathan Tower (indexed as Lower on ancestry.com), 44, farmer, Cannot write
Nancy A.,45, born KY?. Cannot read or write
William, 12
John A., 4

1880 Daleville, Delaware, IN- children born IN
Nancy Towers, 56; she & parents born KY
William, 21, son, parents both born KY (this isn't right, as Jonathan was born in Indiana)
John, 15, son, parents both born KY

The age of Jonathan seemed right, however the wife was different, and so I wasn't sure about it. Today I found some more, and you will come to see why I believe Jonathan Jr. was indeed twice married, and that the above Jonathan in Madison County, Indiana in 1870 is one and the same as the Jonathan Tower who married Elizabeth Graham.

I found online at two different sources a marriage record for Jonathan Tower and Nancy Ann Reynolds, married in Delaware County, IN either on 8 June 1854 or 6 June 1864. Both cite page 108 of either Marriage Book C-3 or C-8. (One is Ancestry.com's "Indiana Marriages" and the other is the Delaware County Genweb site). Apparently by 1880, Jonathan had passed away, and by 1887 they must have moved to Miami County, Ohio, based upon birthdates below:

1900 Elizabeth, Miami Co., OH
NANCY A. Tower, Mar 1823, widowed. 2 children liv; b. VA
WILLIAM Tower 42, Mar 1858, marr 14 yrs; born IN
Laura E Tower 35, Sep 1864, born OH
Othie E Tower 12, Oct 1887, born OH
John F Tower 11, Mar 1889, born OH
Gertie E Tower 9, Feb 1891, born OH
Walter H Tower 6, June 1893, born OH
Bertha J Tower 5, Mar 1895, born OH
William R Tower 1, July 1899, born OH
Ruth G Tower, Jan 1900, born OH

1900 Tippecanoe, Miami Co., OH
JOHN Tower, July 1866, marr 6 yrs
Lucy M., wife Apr 1877, 2/2 children living
Rosella, daughter, Sep 1896
Louis D., son Dec 1898

This is when I started getting excited because Jonathan and Elizabeth (Graham) Tower's daughter, Almyra, at some point prior to 1880 had moved to Miami County, Ohio. She was married to John Isaac Mumford, and they are my GGGgrandparents. They are buried in Casstown cemetery, Miami co., Ohio. Almyra's death certificate lists her parents as Jonathan Tower and Elizabeth Graham, birthplaces unknown.

To learn that Nancy and William then moved to Miami County seemed like more than a coincidence to me. And then I learned this about Jonathan's son William (the one who was 12 years old in 1870 and therefore could be the son of either Nancy Ann Reynolds or Elizabeth Graham, depending on whether 1854 or 1864 is the correct marriage date for Jonathan and Nancy). His death certificate states that he was the son of Jonathan Tower and Nancy Raunels and was buried in McKendree Church Cemetery. This is the same small church cemetery in which Almyra (Tower) Mumford's in-laws are buried! I just visited that cemetery a few weeks ago to look up the Mumford graves... if I had only known, I would have taken a photo of William Tower's grave as well!

So it could all be a huge coincidence, however I just don't think so. For there to be two unrelated Tower families in the same neighborhood (Almyra's line and William/John's line), who attend the same church but are descended from two separate Jonathan Towers, just seems highly unlikely to me.

Re: Paul Herrmann Tower

Hello,

I a great-grandson of Paul Hermann Tower, Sr (1888-1946). To be completely honest, I really don't know a lot about him or his family history. This is part of my family that I am stuck on. Some information that I do have follows:

Immigrated in 1912 (from 1930 Census);
He, his mother, and father were from Germany (from 1930 Census).
He was a Steel Worker in Pennsylvania.
According to my grandmother, when he immigrated, he changed his name to Tower. She insists that it used to be something like Tower-inski. She couldn't remember exactly. This might be incorrect for the fact that she believed he came from Poland (the 1930 census says otherwise).

I know that its been a while since you posted this, so if you have any additional information, please let me know.

The only information I can offer in terms of Minnie May Specht is that I found something (not sure where) that said her maiden name was Rogers with parents John and Mary Rogers. Whether this is correct or not, I am not sure.

Hope this helps.
Chris Barr

George W. Tower

Patricia--

I would be happy to give you the info if I knew what it was in reference to. I responded to a posting that I saw but never heard back from anyone. It appears I was looking for information on a George W. Tower and his descendants. However, without more info than that I don't know which George W. Tower it was. I have a total of 10 George Tower's, 2 George W. Tower's, 4 George Washington Tower's, 1 George Wesley Tower, 1 George William Tower and 1 George Winchell. If you can give me any information whatsoever regarding the post I responded to I will be happy to look further and advise whatever info I have for the person.
