How interesting!!

We visited Derrinacartha in Jan 2008 and by coincidence met Pat Kelly who still lives down the road from my Grandmothers cottage. It would be great if you could email me all you know, with any contact details. My email is ellie_rathbone@hotmail.co.uk I live in Birmingham which is where my Nanny came here when she left Ireland.
Hi Ellie - hope I can help. I was born in Derrinacartha next door neighbour to the Frain household and about half mile from the Towey house. My maiden name was Fleming, now Sarah O'Donnell living in Maidenhead Berks UK.

The Frain family are still living there. Your great Grandmother's brother Tom married Maggie Gara had a family and their son Joe also married there to Margaret O'Donnell(no relation) they had 3 sons and 1 daughter. Joe passed away 5 years ago March and his wife Mgt and son James still live there also another son Tommie, wife and family live in the next village Broher.

Bea a sister of your great grandmother also married in the village to Kelly and their son Pat still lives in that house, he has three sons and was widowed a year after their last child was born, brought up the children on his own and never remarried, lovely individual. Pat is my God Father.

Now the Toweys - Kate Frain married Mike Towey (Mike Jack)
and their son James (Jim) to locals - brother to your Grandmother settled in the home place. He married Nellie Maloney (Galway lass) and built a new house opposite the original Towey homestead. They had two children to my knowledge, the girl died at about six years of age and Jimmy is married with family. Jim died about 2000/1 and the family sold up and moved away to Claregalway about 8 miles outside Galway City. Nellie died in 2006/7. You may be able to find more information on the Irish Census 1901 and 1911 will be available in 2011. My brother Pat is still living next door to the Frain family. If I find out any more info I will let you know - will get Jimmy Towey's postal address for you when next in touch with my brother. I think Jimmy Towey and Tommie Frain (both second cousins to you) are married to two sisters if my memory serves me right. Will confirm later for you. Get in touch direct if you want.

My Grandfather was Jim Callaghan and his sister Margaret was married to Pat Towey a brother of your greatgrandfather.

Dont know if you visited Ireland in 2008, but if not I hope this info helps to get you started with your family tree. I'm curious - is Eveleen your Mam or your Dads mother and where are you living?

Regards

Sarah
Hi
I am trying to trace any information about my Grandmother. I know that her parents names were Mike Jack Towey and Kate Frain (i am unsure of spelling). My Grandmothers name was Eveleen and she was born in 1915. She has sisters May, Teresa and Philomena and Brothers James, Martin, Micheal, Andrew. From memory the family hailed from the Ballaghdereen/ Dernacartha area and they grew up on a Farm. I am actually taking a trip to ballaghderreen at the end of January so any information would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi, I am not sure if anyone is still reading these but I would like to join in. My mother was a Towey. She was from Warrington England. She didn't know much about her Towey side of the family. Her father was Edward Thomas Ward and his father was John Ward. John was dead prior to 1921. Edward was born in Warrington but I don't know his mother's name. He married Sarah Ellen Ward and had one child, my mother. I think he had a brother named James. Both brothers died in the 1940s from heart problems. Let me know if these names are familiar. I will be glad to share what little information I have. I would love to find grand children from James. There may have been a sister too.
Barbara

I too am looking for info on the Towey Family. My G'mother was Margaret, born abt. 1865. Daughter of Edward and Bridget Towey. She had a younger sister, named Anne. Need info on when they may have migrated. Margaret went to Saranac Lake, but Anne went to Larchmont, NY.
Have you checked the census for Ireland for 1901? Thats where I got most of my info.
It does appear we are looking at the same part of Ireland:County of Roscommon, Castlemore Parish, Ballaghaderreen.
Mary

Hello Michael,

I have a Fredrick William Lovely Towhey married to Ellen Pattingale.
Their first child, my grandmother Mary Ellen Lovel Towhey was born in Liverpool 1883.
Fredrick was a travelling musician. Evenetually settling until his death in Lambeth London.
On the 1881 census he states he was born Dublin but on the 1891 census he states he was born in Woolwich Kent.
On Fredricks marriage cert 1879 it looks like he names his father as James and his profession as that of Station Master.
I can't get past the 1881 census so he remains a mystery,
Does any of the above connect with your Towey's. If so could you mail me at jackie005@btclick.com
Regards Jackie.

My mother's maiden name is "Touey." My grandfather was William Ignatius Touey b. Philadelphia July 9, 1904 or 1905 and he was one of nine children. Only five lived to adulthood. His siblings were Mary (Traurig),Vincent, Rita, Charles, Francis,Helen and two infants whose names I do not know. His father was also William and his mother was Helen Watson. I've just begun this search. Other family members have more information. I believe our family came from Mayo in Ireland. Interestingly, my maternal great grandmother was Emily McElroy (no connection to the Touey side.)

Hi Anne. I suspected that you were one of Uncle Vince's grandchildren. I have met several of your aunts and uncles. I've been feeling especially connected to your family this year, as my daughter has been teaching at MBS, which, sadly, will close this year. I am the second oldest of 36 grandchildren of his brother, Bill. My mother is Anne (Nancy) Touey. My brother, Larry Clay and my uncle, Bill Touey have been working on the Touey line and have additional information that I have yet to put in any kind of order, but there's quite a bit going back to Patrick (sp Tuohy) who came from Ireland. If you would like, send me your e-mail address and I'll send you what I have as soon as I gather it.
Emily

Towey's in Warrington England

I am looking for information on Towey's in England. My grandfather was Edward Thomas Towey born 1 Jul 1898 in Warrington England. His father was John, I don't know mother's name. Edward was married to Sarah Ward. Sarah parents were Patrick Ward and Elizabeth Jones. I believe Edward had a brother named John or James. Edward died in 1941 and any other brothers probably near that time. Family rumor has it that the men died with a heart defect at around 40 yrs old. My mother was his only child. She was a war bride that came to the U.S. Anyone out there that has family in Warrington related to the Towey's or Wards?

Dear Michael, I only have the information about Fr. Maloney from My Great Aunt Agnes Immaculata , a catholic nun, who remembers this story being told by her mother. Sister Agnes is 104 years old and in a retirement convent in Cincinnati Ohio. There is no first name given for thr Fr. Maloney. I believe this family Maloney and Power had connections in Ireland. I know Margaret Maloney's parents names in Ireland and when I find them on Tithes it might give me more information about the Texas connection. respond Sincerely Russell Brown RBJABrown3830@aol.com

for anyone's information;
iN A CARROLTON Cemetary [established 1857] near Fountain Mn I found seven Towey burial sites along with Sarah Towey Bresnahan, 1881-1961. First names of the Towey's are Clara, John, Andrina, Frank, Lizzie, John and Kathryn. Sarah Bresnahan may have been dicorced and had a daughter Hazel. [see 1920 Fillmore county Mn census]
I have not connected the above Toweys with my Towey ancestors
who are descendants of John Patrick and Mary Bones Towey of Ireland then South Dakota and finally Minnesota.
Most likely the Toweys mentioned here are related!
