Mirabeau Lamar Towns is my great great grandfather. My mother's father, Richard Lombard, was the son of Christine Lombard, nee Towns (married to Jose Lombard).

James Daniel Towns was born in Putnam County, GA in 1827 and died in Lousiaiana in 1890. He married Rebecca Marsh in 1849.

This my husband's family- his Grandfather was JOHN ORAM TOWNS of about 12 in the Towns family in Dundee. His Great Grandfather was James Towns who married Isabella Orem/Oram.

1860 Cobb Cty Ga. census page 31 - William H. Towns
(ggg grandfather)with wife Louisa(Hodge) & Family continues onto pg 32 -living with them is Elizabeth R. Towns 69yrs. old. I assume this is Williams mother(?) but haven't found concrete proof.
Everyone seems to be under the assumption that James Daniel & Charlotte are Williams parents they do have a son WH...,I think this Daniel is a bro. to my WH who was born abt 1828.
My William is in Cobb Cty. Georgia at that time.
Does anyone have any information with proven documentation on this family? I found marriage of James Daniel Towns to Elizabeth Strickland 1819 Madison Cty ga. but havent found them together anywhere. I speculate the Eliabeth Towns on 1840 Franklin Ga.census may be the right one, she lives next door to William Gober.(Louisa Hodges mother was a Gober)However I dont want to go on any speculations....
I read an old message from someone who I think was on the same track with an article in the Albay Herald abt.Richard Towns & Brother WH. dissolving a business. I will be happy to exchange any info.

I have reseached my father's family, but it stopped somewhere in Georgia, with my great-grandfather James Daniel TOWNS. It's my understand that I have relatives in the Social Circle, Ga. My grandfather, David Henry TOWNS asked my dad to visit them, but he never did. Anyhow, I am curious if you are related to my family line, since you are from Georgia.

My husbands grandmother was Joe Lee Cadwell(Caldwell)Rawlins. Do you have info on Hattie's parents (I have seen it spelled both ways Cadwell/Caldwell)? I beleive Joe Lee's father was Joel Cadwell and I don't have her mothers name. I beleive she died when Joe Lee was 2-4 years old and Joel remarried and had 7 more children with another wife. I think there was 4 children by the first wife.

My greatgrandfather was Thomas Towns. His first wife-my greatgrandmother-was Rosie Brassfield. They had four children - Willie Towns,Katie (my grandmother), Ora and Betty. His second wife was Mrs. Organbright and they had three daughters Lela, Zelma, and Ethel. Thomas Towns later married Mrs. Jennie Chambers and they had two children - Virgil and Cora. Mrs. Chambers had three daughters from a previous marriage. I don't know if this is the Thomas Towns you mentioned or not. Would like to hear from you.

It was great hearing from you. I remember your Aunt Cora and I believe that I met your father at family reunions. If I did not meet him then I just heard my father talk about him. My father was A. J. Halbrook the second son of Katie and W. X. Halbrook. I also know your cousin, Cozell Towns (son of Willie Towns) and Cozell's sister. I have always felt very close to Cozell and his wife Ruth. Cozell reminds me of my Dad. Dad died ten years ago - April 16, 1990. There are only three surviving sisters - there were nine children - three boys and six girls. I don't know if you knew any of them but Maureen, Noreen, and Rosie are the surviving girls.

Alexander Low (1814-1890) m. 1837 Margaret Murray (c.1816-1894)

They had 8 children from my records including Mary Low (1845-1898) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Low (1853-1919).

Lizzie Low married David Towns in 1874 and had 9 children, Margaret Murray Towns being the eldest.

Alexander Low (1877-1951) marries his 1st cousin Margaret Murray Towns (1876-1950).

I have the Low family back to Charles Low b.c1778 Aboyne, m. ? Margaret Low b. c1783, Fordoun.

I also have a picture of the grave stone of Alexander Low and Margaret Murray which also has some of their children including Mary Low.

No Fairweather/Towns marriages but I have a Catherine Fairweather of Fetteresso marrying an Alexander Low in 1905. Alexander Low later went on to marry Margaret Murray Towns of Montrose in 1920.

Yes, I am still working on my family line, but without much success before John Gideon TOWNS. My Father, Thomas Gideon TOWNS was son of David Henry TOWNS, one of those 10 children. My research generally is completed only in the summer months, since I am a teacher. I am looking forward to doing some more work soon. My next goal is to locate where in Georgia the family actually moved from, before ending up in Texas. I'd be happy to exchange family information.

Yes, we are directly related. James Daniel had at least 8 children, to my knowledge. My line is: James Daniel -> John Gideon -> David Henry Towns -> Thomas Gideon -> to me. I have David J. as one of the siblings, born in abt. 1855. I also have David Jackson, born May 06, 1857 married to Mollie Mackey McCoy, born 1862 in Louisiana. I think my grandmother Towns is the daughter of David J. Towns, brother of James D. Towns that you have found in the 1870 census. Her name is Cleo Towns and she married Marion A. Jolley in Louisiana.

My grandmother's name was Cleo Towns. She was the daughter of David J. Towns. His dad was James Daniel Towns, as far as I know. She was married to Marion A. Jolley in Louisiana.

I am just starting to research my family history and maybe we share the same ancestors.I believe that James Daniel Towns, born in 1827,is my grandmother Towns father's father.His mother was Rebecca and there is a long list of brothers and sisters.I never knew much detail about my family on the Towns side and this would be very interesting if there is a connection here.I know that my grandmother spelled her name "Townes" so I wonder how accurate the spelling always was on lots of the censuses.Hope you get this because I see you put this out onto the site over four years ago.

Thanks for that information. I know Catherine FAIRWEATHER died in Dundee in 1919 so his marriage to Margaret Murray TOWNS in 1920 fits. Do you know who Margaret's parents were?
Alexander LOW's mother was Mary LOW. In 1881, he was in Arbuthnott, KCD, with his mother and grandparents.

Stephen Towns and his family, including his father, moved to the property where Ruby Anderson now lives (in Lot 14) when he purchased the nearby sawmill. He died in 1868, but some of his family stayed here for some years.
A son, Arthur Towns, had several children, one of whom, Alida, became Mrs. Frank Becker.

Thelma Towns is actually Zelma ...Marvin Towns is Marvin Belvin Towns...his parents were John Towns and Elizabeth Clarke (not sure of the correct spelling). Marvin Towns Married Zelma Clance and her parents were Edward Clacne and Minnie Heath...

Are you still working on Mary Florence Grady? John Gideon Towns' son, Richard Grady Towns is my grandfather. He was married to Ava Lou Shipp in 1915 and they had 1 child in 1917 in Chillicothe, TX, and Grady died in Clovis, NM 10/23/1918 during the flu epidemic. My mother remembers MFG. The family referred to her as Miss Grady. My notes say all 10 children belonged to JGT and Charlotte Dorcas Lee.

My database shows that Margaret Murray Towns was the daughter of David/Lizzie. In 1881 census she was aged 5 so she was about 44 when she married.

Staff Sgt. Robin L. Towns Sr., 52, of Upper Marlboro, Md., died Oct 24 in Bayji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee during combat operations. He was assigned to the 275th Military Police Company, 372nd Military Police Battalion, Washington, D.C. National Guard.

My 3g grandmother was chr. Ann TOONS 28 Feb 1791 at Deeping St. James, Lincolnshire, England. She is the daughter of Wm. TOONS and Mary.
Ann TOONS married William WHITEHEAD in 1810 in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England. They had 10 WHITEHEAD children, 3 sons and 7 daughters born between 1813 and 1832. I am a descendant of their daughter named Maria WHITEHEAD chr. 24 Feb 1815 at Bourn, Lincolnshire, England. Anyone connected to this TOONS family found in Lincolnshire, England in the 1790's? Perhaps Ann had brothers who had their surname as TOWNS in other records.

Hello, I am so excited. I have not been able to find any descendants of Aunt Rossie. I would love to compare notes with you.

I am trying to fill in all of Stephen and Fanny's descendants. Some people are calling her Fanny Jenny, but that is incorrect. It was just Fanny.

I hope to get to NY in a few days and maybe locate more Towns information. Can't wait to hear from you.
