My mother's maiden name was Townsend. Her father was Bennie Townsend and his father's name was Tom Townsend. I believe my grandfather was born in Louisiana, moved to Texas and then Oklahoma. I do not know whether Tom Townsend had any brothers or sisters. If anyone has any information, please post. Thank you

It has been a while since your last post I hope that you are still on here.

I am looking for information on the Townsend family. I have a William T who was born in 1882 in Arkansas and pasted in 1957 in Arkansas. His father was supposivly Ben Townsend and mother was Lizzie Newton. I have some information on William but very little is known about Ben. Most of the family that is left can confirm that his parents were Ben and Lizzie.

Ben had children by more than one lady according to William's obit he had half siblings Earl and Talmadge from White co, Arkansas and John from Missouri.

Thanks
Lindsay

I am looking for any information on a Ben Townsend and his wife Lizzie Newton Townsend. They had a son named William Thomas Townsend born in 1882 in Arkansas. He went by Will T.

Ben had been married at least twice, I am unsure when Ben and Lizzie died and where. According to William's obit in 1957 White co, Arkansas he had half brothers Earl, Talmadge and John. Earl and Talmadge were from white co, Arkansas and John moved to Missouri and I believe died there. There could have been more siblings but possibly not alive at the time of William's death.

William T's first wife is unknown they would have been married after 1900 and she died before 1910. They had one daughter named Addie she was adopted by the Humble family and stayed around white, co Arkansas. His second wife was Sarah Addie Hooper daughter of John and Mary Poe Hooper.

I know of a few children William Thomas, Talmadge, Earl and John. I know that John moved to Missouri. The other three stayed around the Searcy, Arkansas area. Any info would be great.
David TOWNSEND, Bristol England

Seeking data on David TOWNSEND, Coach Maker, Bristol Gloucesteshire England. Have found him in 1851 Census onward. However, cannot locate him in 1841 census. He is my g g grandfather.
My g grandfather John Fredrick TOWNSEND was born 1840, possibly in Wales, Monouthshire, across river from Bristol. He is not listed in 1851 census with his father and brother Wm. However, I did find a John TOWNSEND adopted in 1851 census in Monmouthshire living with a man who is listed as a seaman.
My g grandfather was a seaman. Would like to be able to link this child with David TOWNSEND or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your post; after reading it I googled Henry Townsend, and found a post about Henry Townsend b. 1773, married to Deborah Wiser, who, according to the poster, was born in Mecklenberg, NC. The poster, shows that Henry lived in Shelby County, KY, which is where my GGGrandfather Moses b. 1772, was supposed to have been born. But since I know he is a genetic match to William Townsend b. 1750-1760, who was born in Mecklenberg/Cabbarrus County also, I suspect that this Henry Townsend, my Moses Townsend and William Townsend, are all related and probably born in Mecklenberg/Cabbarrus County, North Carolina. There is an old 1750 land record from Mecklenberg County, NC which mentions a Moses Townsend, which may make him the possible father of William, who may possibly be the father of Moses and Henry Townsend.
I'm sorry I haven't run accross any Lofton's, but if I do, I will post the information.

I recently spoke to my Aunt Lenora and Aunt Elizabeth, daughters of my Grandpa Jeff and discovered that my Grandfather had brothers and sisters named Joseph, Nolden, Dill, Annie or Anna Mae and Wille Mae (Twins) Townsell or Townsend. Joseph moved to New York and Nolden to Cleveland and I believe Willie Mae ended up in Dallas Texas. My father, Jeffie Lee Townsell Sr. and most of his brothers and sisters were born in Bristow, Oklahoma.

Help finding "Wash" Townsend, B. 1846 in GA

I am looking for information on George Washington "Wash" Townsend, B. 1846 in GA. His parents were from SC (based on 1880 census). I believe his son, John H, is my great grandfather, John Henry, B. 1876. On Johns death certificate, it lists parents as George Washington and Mary Elizabeth Neal. I have SS info that states Wash's wifes name might have been Elizabeth Cole.

I can't find Wash anywhere else, and I'm stuck. Any ideas to find out some new leads on a farmer from the south? Any help appreciated!

Hi, your message was quite interesting. My Lofton's were also associated with the Voyles & Townsends from NC and KY and Indiana. I find my Isaac Lofton Sr. living near Henry Townsend in Mercer County KY before 1810. Henry Townsend married a Wisor/Wiser from NC. I think he was born about 1750. My Isaac Lofton Sr. passed about 1814, I think. His sons were in Washington Co. IN. I am searching for the wife of Isaac Lofton, Judah? She is mentioned in land records in KY with Isaac. I have the bulk of the info you presented, but enjoyed reading it from your perspective. Do you happen to have any further info on the Loftons?

Asa Townsend (ca.1775-alive 1851)

I am currently attempting to uncover the origins of a certain Asa Townsend who was an early settler in Etobicoke, Westminster and ultimately Bosanquet Townships in Upper Canada (later Ontario). According to his own testimony made in 1812 he "was Born in the British colonies now the United States of America . . ." In 1812 he gave his age as 37 and in 1851 Tax Assessment Rolls he was listed as 76 suggesting he was born in about 1775. (The 1851/2 Census of the Canadas for Lambton County -- where Bosanquet lies-- were lost). In 1812 he indicated that he had been in first Lower Canada and then Upper Canada for approximately ten years. Local histories and at least one contemporary record indicate he was married although the name of his wife is never recorded. Circumstantial evidence links him with one Nathan/Nathaniel Townsend and an Ezekiel Townsend (born circa 1810) who was either living with or next door to Asa in 1851 in Bosanquet Township just east of the village of Arkona. It seems likely that he was Asa's son.

I have discovered that there was an Asa Townsend born in 1774 in Abington, Plymouth, Massachusetts, the son of Ezekiel and Mary Townsend. In 1796 an Asa Townsend married to one Huldah Barstow. My preliminary searching fails to turn up a record of either after there marriage and I am attempting to either eliminate them as matches for the Upper Canadian settler or to potentially find more evidence to tie them together. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a Cherokee link. That is what my grndmother told me when I was a young girl, but I am not sure where it comes in (the last name?) however I did find some information that lists Townsends living on the Cherokee reservation in Oklahoma in "Chelsea" which was within the confines of the Cherokee reservation at that time. These people, I believe, were my greatgrandmother's mother and father. They left Maryland durring the removal period and ended up there somehow. It is known that later my greatgrandmother's father returned from Oklahoma sometime around 1908 I believe. When he returned he ws very old and the family gathered, spoke in the native language, and cried. All of thier children had been left behind and "farmed out" to different homes within the community as this was the policy at that time to try to christianize, and assimilate, the indian children. thus all of their children were still in this same local area except their son who had been shot and killed. Sad stories. My granmother told me when I was very young that we could go and live on the reservation if we wanted to. I believe that the Cherokee came in through the Townsend line. Wado!

I am of the Townsend line, William, Solomon, Peter .. the answer to your question on indian blood if you are related to any of these, who are listed in Maryland archives early in the 1600's, and early 1700's, then the answer may be yes. My grandmother, who's mother was Trissa 'Annie" Townsend handed down oral history on one "Peter Townsend" whom I am still trying to gather information on as he is elusive and the story may tell you why, he may have even changed his name. He was a Scout for the Maryland Malitia somewhere around the late 1700's or early 1800's, I am still researching this, .. but as the story goes he may have been part, or pure indian as the Malitia hired inidans to do the scouting for them because they knew the trails. We are talking of the peninsula of Maryland and Virginia. It was told to me by my grandmother as a young girl that Peter Townsend married and indian woman who was called "Sunshine", who later became known as Martha(?) who had a twin sister named Maria(?), they disapeared from here as he deserted the Malitia after an indian masacre of "Sunshines" tribe, most likely her tribe was the Pocomokes who were originally known as the "Acquantica" of Accomack, Virginia. I have more on this story if you are interested. I have been trying to locate where he may have gone or what happened to him and "Sunshine". All I can tell you is that there are many Townsend desendants here on the Peninsula of Maryland in Somerset County, Worcester County and Wicomico County and also in Accomack, Virginia. The Townsend family married into the "Pusey" family and other families here on the peninsula who were also Indian (birds of a feather). Please get back to me with any information that you may have as I have been searching for more than 30 years on this. I amy be able to lead you in the right direction.

Hi Robert! I pray that your still blogging on this site...
I'm a descendant of the Townsend family currently searching for my father, whose name is Thomas Edward Townsend. From what my mother told me, he was born and raised in Little Rock, AR, and that most of his family resides in Arkansas. Not sure if that is where your located, but I was wondering if you have a relative by that name and if he is between the age of 48-51? My mother also told me that he has a brother by the name of Robert Townsend.

Found this page. It has the Thomas O. Nichols you are looking for. Haven't checked the accuracy of the info yet. Doing research on a former pastor of mine. Eddie Q. Nichols. Just curious about what happened to him and where he went after he left our church.
James Albury
