Hi Mike,

I am researching my ancestor, Mary Tointon. I belive she is the Mary listed on the 1841 census @ Skendleby - 10 yrs old, daughter of James & Elizabeth Toonten (Tointon on 1851 Census). She married William Baldock (who I believe was also from that area)about 1850 and with their daughter Susannah, born about 1852, they sailed from Hull to New York. I would appreciate any additional information you might have. Thanks. Jim Riley: jimandsharon.riley@att.net

Do you mean my Ann's brother William baptised at Fleet on 17 November 1794?

I have John Toynton and Mary Watson as parents. I can add a further two generations.

I have not come across a Westland Tointon - what source do you have? I have extracts and copies of the Parish Registers available and no record of a Westland. Drury however is a local name.

I have little on William - I have not found him on a census which one might expect

I would be willing to compare notes - but perhaps in a more private environment. Would you like to try the messaging service?

Regards

John R G Bland

hi there!

I see you are related to Ann Tointon/Toynton born fleet 1787

I have lots of toynton history - and a very small tree showing william toynton/tointon and Ann Tointon

My father has been reserching the tree for years and we are rather confused as to this william. We have him twice on 2 seperate trees. We have him as son of westland Tointon and Mary Drury - or son of John Tointon and Mary Watson

I see you posted this way back in 2006 - I am very hopeful that you have since found out more info? I would be happy to share with you what we have

Best rgds

Julie Tointon

I was born a Tointon and have great interest in my Family tree. Thanks to the help of Julie and Mike I have been able to fill in many missing details, however... every line I follow contains a Samuel, a James, a James Samuel or a Samuel James, sometimes I feel like I'm going around in circles, anyone else having this trouble?????
my great great grandfather Samuel Tointon B; 1833 brother to "TIN HAT" James

They had 2 children that I know of Carrie b 1894 and Gertie b 1899. Although I don't remember meeting Carrie I can remember visiting Gertie as a young child.
Hope that helps in trying to place me in your tree

Best wishes

Kathy

Hi
I contacted you a while ago regarding the Batterhams, I was originally looking for Frances Batterham whose father was Robert Henry Batterham and his father was Edward Batterham . I have since found out that Robert was not actually the father of Frances as she was born a Lodge, Robert married Mary Ann Cook, who had been married to a Lodge and a Stevens, Frances comes from Mary anns daughter from the Lodge marriage, I assume Frances grew up to know Robert Henry as her dad.

Hope this makes sense, you said contact you again in June

To Carol Spencer,

My computer has been out of action for the last couple of months. I am having a replacement in February and I may be able to use the old one shortly.
I'm at the Library today looking up my e-mails and found your message. When I get back on line I shall be able to send you information about the Gostelows in my ancestry, in the meantime you can read about Captain Gostelow in local books about Spalding.

Sophia Magick, born 1878, died 1950 was the sister of my grandfather Archibald Magick, born 1876 died 1973. I am constructing a family tree and would appreciate any information or contacts that may assist me.
The surname has changed over generations back and forth from Madgwick to Magick.
Spalding Library holds census returns and local newspapers on fiche. They also hold a full transcription of monument inscriptions at Spalding Cemetery done about 25 years ago.

The Registers though are on fiche at Lincolnshire Archives (who hold the originals), although I believe that Spalding Church does have a copy available for consultation for a donation.

Regards,

John

Hello Suzanne,

Can you be a bit more specific on dates please? If post 1901 (no Bernard on the 1901 census) then it could be a lot more recent, in which case it may be worth asking the local Spalding newspaper if they would publish a plea for information.

One branch of this family did establish a newsagents in C20th Spalding, but I doubt if they could be called rogues!

My Toynton tree essentially covers the period 1700 to 1812 when Ann Toynton married into my Woolley line. She had two brothers John and William, both born at Fleet near Holbeach, and I think that one of these did move to Spalding sometime before 1841.

Regards,

John R G Bland

Spalding, Lincolnshire Toynton's

Looking at the archives on this board, I note several seem to be connected to the one family of William Toynton and his wife Elizabeth who had several children born in the 1810's. Whilst I have personally not seen the marriage record of this couple. (If anyone has could they please advise me where it took place!) I do have a very suitable candidate for William born in FLEET, Lincolnshire in 1794. The details are on my page on World Connect.

I am descended from his elder Sister Ann born at Fleet in 1787 who married Robert WOOLLEY at Fleet in 1812. I hope to be able to add to my knowledge of this family on future trips to Lincs Archives so feel free to contact me for any further background information I may have discovered after Spring 2006.

Hope this helps as there seem to be a number of you out there!

Regards

John R G Bland

To Sam Sarson,

Thank you for your message. My great-great grandmother was called Susannah Batterham. I am too busy at the moment with other family affairs of the present day , to look up dates etc. However, there are loads and loads of Batterhams in Lincolnshire. I recommend, the Lincolnshire Family History Society

Do you read Nick Barratt's articles in the Telegraph? He recently examined some of Michael Parkinson's Family History, and he has a female Batterham ancestor, from Lincolnshire. I've not had time to see if his Batterham's are mine too (and , perhaps, yours). If you would care to contact me again after the middle of June, I may then be much freer (at least, I hope I will!).

yours sincerely,
Valerie Venables
