Hello
I'm trying to research my grandfather's family.
He was called George Tracey, born in Hugglescote, near Coalville, in 1917/18.
Hi father was called Walter, he died when my grandad was 10 months old.
If anyone has any more information on the Traceys of north Leicestershire from that period or before I'd be pleased to hear it and happy to help in anyway, too.
best wishes
LMarlow

I have finally "found" my long lost 2nd cousin. Ida Velna passed away in Florida in 1997.She had divorced Claude Tracey in Hillsborough County, Florida in 1953. I believe they had a son which was named Gordon Tracey. I believe that he might be about 57 years old. Ida passed away in Ft. Myers, Fl.
I have done name/address searches and come up lacking on good hits.
I am hoping that someone might see this and know the family I am looking for.
Its only for genealogy. Looking to find out about Ida between her teenage years and when she passed away.
Thanks and Good Hunting
Frank

Michael Tracey and Anne Murphy in Carlow

I am descended from Ellen Tracey who emigrated to Queensland Australia in 1861. Her marriage certificate to Edward Terry in 1865 states that her father was Michael Tracey and her mother Anne Murphy of 'Burns' Carlow. I suspect that 'Burns' may be a corruption of Borris, either mispelled on the original marriage certificate or transcribed incorrectly on the typed copy I obtained from Queensland. Ellen died in 1932 at the age of 99 years 10 months. I have found a reference to Michael Tracey and Anne Murphy on the traceyclann website and suspect it is the same family:

Mick/Michael Tracy & Anne Murphy

Darby b. 22 Feb 1835 Crannagh Sp. William Rice & Mary Rise

Thomas b. 12 Dec 1841 Ballymartin Sp. Michael Murphy & Aly Tracy
I'd love to hear from descendants of the above.

re: origin of the "tracey/tracy" surname

my father, william claire tracey, researched the family geneaolgy during the 1950s at brigham young university's extensive records. he also traced it back to the "de tracy" or "du tracy", moving from normandy to england. after the murder of thomas beckett, the king ostensibly punished the three knights involved ( including that de tracy) by banishing them back to france. in the following centuries, some stayed in england, some to ireland. my line stayed in france.

in my father's side of the family, they eventually emigrated to the usa in the late 1700s. eventually several moved west to illinois. there my great-grandfather homesteaded. his farm was in our family until the great depression, when it was sold with most all of the contents. my dad was a boy and grieved over his sold pony.

in our line, there is only one male tracey left. (i forgot to mention that somewhere along the line, they dropped the "du" and added the "e".) his name is matthew lawson tracey, from oregon. "lawson" is my grandfather's middle name. i was blessed with a double tracey identity--my maiden name was tracy ann tracey!

After a long time off I am back and more determined than ever to find my Tracey ancestors.

John TRACEY was born in Massachusetts about 1852. He was in Chicago by 4 July 1876, when he married Anna Elizabeth Conlin (Conlon ?) at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica. His name is spelled "TRACY" on the marriage record and on many other documents. He died between 1893 & 1900 and the family continued to live in Chicago.

I have updated my website and there are more details there as well as some interesting photos. Visit http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~richard/tracey/tracey.htm

I also want to add some links to the page so if you have or know about a good TRACEY site

Tracey/Tracy

Please help!! I have located my maternal GGrandmothers information, but I get stonewalled when I try to back it up. If anyone has a clue to Maragret Amelia Tracy(?) with parents:
George W. Tracy and Emily Bertha Clark and sibling names:
Edna Marie, Louise, Harriet, Susan, Bertha L., George,
F. Louis, Lee, and Gladys.

I am not 100% sure of the spelling of Tracy, and my mother had always been told by her mother that there was a "french" connection. We have been able to determine that Maragret and some of her siblings were born in Utah and that her family did reside in Idaho at one time (her father George W. is said to be buried in Weiser, ID).

My mother never new her mom's side of the family, in fact she did not know she had a family! They appear to have been connected to the LDS church. Can anyone help?

My great grandfather John Tracey was born in Glasgow (1877) to parents Elizabeth Kelly and John Tracey. his birth certificate shows his parents were married on 17th April 1874 in Enniskillen. So at some point between their marriage and the birth of their son my gg grandparents came from Enniskillen to Glasgow.

The only other information i have is from their death certificates John Tracey Snr died 16th Jan 1907, age 68, parents stated on death cert are John and Mary Tracey.
Elizabeth Kelly Tracey died 10th Dec 1915, age 79, parents stated on death cert are Patrick Kelly and Rose McCourt/McCart. Elizabeth's death cert also shows her as being widow of 1.) John Dermid - General Labourer, and 2.) John Tracey.
As they married quite late in their lifes there is the possibilty that John Tracey was also previously marrried.

I am looking for any information at all on John Tracey born circa 1839, Elizabeth Kelly born circa 1836 and John McDermid from Enniskillen. \Also any descendants of John McDermid or John Tracey. Any information at all will be graetly appreciated.

Sarah Tracey (or Tracy) was the daughter of Samuel Tracey and Sarah Carr. She married John Wardell and then left England for America around 1840.

A few years back someone very kindly sent me account of Sarah and John’s journey to America.

Sadly, neither the account, nor the name of person who sent it to me has survived my change of screen name and a hard drive failure.
At the baptism of Marjorie Winnifred Broadhurst, 1905 in Halifax NS, a sponsor was Winnifred A Tracy. My gr-grandfather was James Tracey, and the next generation shows their names as Tracy. I discovered a Winnifred Tracey in the 1901 NS Census, but she was only 3 yrs old. My assumption is that there is a Winnifred Tracey for whom my Marjorie Broadhurst was named, but I have not found her. Any help would be appreciated.

TRACEY & COLDEN Family Marriage Certificate

I've "rescued" the original marriage certificate belonging to Frances Joseph COLDEN of Laclede County, MO and his bride Adelie C. TRACEY of Adams County, IA who were married in St. Louis, Missouri on the 6th of October 1873. The wedding was officiated by the Justice of the Peace, I.C.H. CUNNINGHAM and witnessed by Fred K. GEMMER.

Thanks to the assistance of a COLDEN Family researcher I know that Francis COLDEN b. 1847 was a silversmith living in St. Louis, MO in 1881. The couple had a daughter Nellie COLDEN who was married to George R. NELSON and living in Los Angeles, CA during the 1920 census with her father Francis also in the household.

Also living with the family during the 1920 census was a grandson Gordon GERSHARDT age 12 years.
I was hoping to locate someone from this family so that this precious old family document could be returned to the care of family, however, I was not successful so I have passed it along to the Laclede County Genealogical Society in hopes that they might have better luck locating family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact them.

Thanks,
Shelley

Tracy/Tracey/Treacy - Co. Limerick

I am interested in a Gallagher-Tracy marriage: Maurice Gallagher to Johanna Tracy/Treacy in the very early 1800's, and Thomas Gallagher to Ellen Tracy, perhaps about 1815. These two families settled just over the Cork border in Houndscourt, Limerick, which was in the RC parish of Glenroe and Ballyorgan. Maurice and Johanna had several children, but I do not know their names. Some went to Australia, and possibly some to the U.S. One branch did stay in Ireland. As for Thomas and Ellen,
(1) their son Michael Gallagher married Catherine Roche of Castleterry, Ballindangan, Cork, in 1849;
(2) Mary or Catherine Gallagher married a Stanton from Old Castletown, Kildorrery, Cork; (
3) Bartholomew Gallagher, who married Catherine O'Carroll of Hospital, Limerick, settled on family land in Houndscourt, Limerick; and
(4) John Gallagher married Ellen Roche of Castleterry, Ballindangan, Cork (my great-grandparents). John and Ellen came to the US and lived on Staten Island for a couple of years and then came to Boston. There might have been other siblings.
James TRACEY b.Galway IRE 1809 - Eliz J Tracey NS

James Tracey was a British soldier 23rd Regiment of Foot, Welsh Fusiliers, born 1809 Galway IRE, discharged Aug 1847 in Nova Scotia, two known children, Mary Ann Tracey (b.1845, Trinidad), my gr-grandmother, married James Broadhurst in Halifax, and second daughter Elizabeth J. Tracey b1846 in one of the Caribbean islands according to British military records. James Tracey’s wife was named Helen, surname unknown, also born Ireland, who was allowed to travel with him from base to base. I am seeking information about Elizabeth J Tracey, who is believed to have married in Halifax, N.S. In 1881 and 1891 McAlpine’s Director James is shown living at 124 Maitland Street, Halifax. If anyone has access to the 1881 or 1891 census (is there an earlier census?), I would appreciate a lookup to determine who is listed in his household. Please contact me at agbroadhurst@hotmail.com

Sarah Ann Tracey --ghost?

At Fort George National Historic Site in Niagara-on-the-Lake a number of so-called mediums claimed to have encountered the "ghost" of one Sarah Ann at Fort George. A nuber of visitors had reported seeing a very young girl in a chemise on the blockhouse steps when we had no children volunteers in on the day in question. We totally discounted this but subsequently discovered a Sarah Ann Tracey buried in the local Church yard. She died at age 7 on July 19, 1840. The interesting part of this is that her father was Thomas Tracey, troop Sergeant Major in the 1st or King's Dragoon Guards at the time of her death. I am just curious enough to try and learn more about the family. Does it ring a bell with anyone?

Ron Dale,
Superintendent, Fort George National Historic Site of Canada

Thomas Tracey

My great-grandfather, Thomas Tracey, was from Ireland. I believe he married Alice Coyle of Philadelphia. They had 2 children, John Joseph (b. Feb 13, 1884) and Mary, called Mame. Alice died in chidbirth and the children were raised by maiden Aunts. Thomas was a taveling salesman, even traveling as far as Brazil to sell his wares. John was estranged from his aunts when he married my grandmother because she was a Presbyterian (and he was Catholic).John died in 1964 in Philadelphia. Any other relatives? All info appreciated. joybrad@sisqtel.net

Tracey from Galway - Abbeyknockmoy Parish

My great-great-grandparents were William Tracey and Sarah Blake. At the time of the Griffiths Valuation (1856 for Galway), they were living in the townland of Lissaniska in the parish of Abbeyknockmoy in eastern County Galway. Their known children were:

Mary (bapt 14 Sep 1823) = Michael Coffey (my G-grandparents)
Bridget (bapt 01 Jul 1826)
John (bapt 22 Feb 1829)
Margaret (bapt 03 May 1832)

Mary and her husband Michael emigrated in 1884 to Boston with their 14 year old daughter Bridget Coffey. Their daughter Mary emigrated to Boston in 1880 and married Geoffrey Murphy (born in Watree, Gowran, Kilkenny) in 1887.

Does any of this Tracey material look familiar to anyone?

Dave Riley
Portsmouth, RI

TRACEY/TURSAK, Andrew of Detroit Michigan

I have found the official document of Andrew TURSAK having his name changed to Andrew TRACEY. Andrew TURSAK/TRACEY was born 1900 in Magyar, Hungary. He is on the 1930 census as a boarder in Detroit, Michigan, unmarried. I do not find him listed in the Social Security Death Index. I would be happy to find his family and pass this document along to them.
