William Tracey

Found family on 1911 census in Dublin. It would appear that William moved around a lot and was known to be a private in the Leinster Regiment, when first daughter Kathleen was born (in Dover, England). Next birth, son William, born in Wicklow, and subsequent births of Margaret - 1906 in Pretoria, South Africa, Patrick and Elizabeth - 1909 in Devonport, England. Does anyone know any more about this man? He definately had the wanderlust!

Actually, Fort George still contained buildings in poor shape constructed in 1814 and 1815 after the reoccupation of the fort by the British. In 1833 we know that the Dragoons were using some of the buildings. Therefore, that part of the story is at least feasible.

Ron

If Sarah Ann died in 1840 being 7 years of age, she was born in 1833. But, in 1833, Fort George was already ruined and abandoned.. Therefore, how can she be connected with Fort George?

Yes, I am sure Emma was born in Maryland. If you look in 1870, 1880, and 1900, all claimed she was born in Maryland, same as her parents. I don't have any of her siblings. That's the problem. If I don't have her parents, how can I know who were her siblings?
I am desperate looking for my 2nd great grandmother, Emma TRACEY's (born 3 Aug. 1838 in Maryland)'s parents. She married 10 Jan. 1860 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania to Columbus FLORA. I don't know if Emma is her actual first name or just a nic name. In the 1880 census, it shows that both of her parents were born in Maryland.
I can't find her in 1860 and before that. She shows in 1870 and 1880 with Columbus FLORA.

I need to find her parents and siblings.

Hi Lynn,
Had a look today for William's birth and found it right enough for 1-1-1903 with the correct parents. Not Roscommon but Co. Wicklow. I looked up marriages then prior to 1903 but had no luck. Do you know when the other children were born or if in Ireland. I looked for other births up to 1908 but no success (i.e Traceys with mother as Hughes).

It gives William's (SENIOR) profession as Private, Leinster Regiment and residence as Rathnew, Co. Wicklow. The absence of births could be due to him being posted away???

Email me direct at eamonhiggins@eircom.net to give me address to post on photocopy of birth redord.

Valerie
You are added to my facebook and I am happy to help you. Curiosity is an aweful thing. At least you got to know him somewhat. I know I spoke of alot of bad things that happened but also I want to speak of some good things, ok!

My grandpa was my hero. He loved me dearly and I will cherish him in my heart forever. He was a very smart man and never left any of his 12 children nor grandchildren without! He was raised by a poor family, his father was a honey man (cleaned out side toilets) and later to become a miner. Margaret just raised her kids and had allways helped out the neighborhood with sewing, cleaning and watching alot of children for others including her own grandchildren. I very good lady. My dad had helped his parents by giving money to the family, and brothers. Even after his parents had died continued helping his siblings.

Your dad, I remember wearing a nice grey suit and out of the blue visiting us. There is no doubt that the Tracey clan are all very much alike. In so many ways and even after being parted for as long as they were. The love was there but they showed it very differently. Not the right way. I call it a traditional curse of guilt, hurt, abuse and so on. Cape Breton style actually!

I hope this helps in any way possible for you. I truly do!

Beautiful lady. I know very little about your dad actually but My dad(grandfather) was pised at him. I met Paddy when I was a little girl. He looked alot like his brother Mick - Identicle actually. Paddy went away to Ontario many years ago. They all loved there booze...lol

Give me a ding if you'd like.

Hi,
Can anyone help me? I have been looking for information about my great grandfather William Tracey for about 3 years now. My family seem to think he came from Roscommon in Ireland. His wife Catherine (aka Kathleen) married in Ireland and migrated to Greenock, nr Glasgow, in Scotland in 1930's. My grandfather (also William) married Jean Bryan in Port Glasgow about 1933.

William and Catherine had other children: James, Andrew, Patrick, Catherine Jnr, Elizabeth. All of whom came to Scotland with their parents.

Please any information would be fantastic!

Regards
Lynn

Hi,

My family name is Tracey, originally from Ireland, but settled in Greenock around late 1920's - early 1930's. Although I don't know much about them, my father seems to recall that a lot of their relatives also settled in the Glasgow area. Don't know if this helps. I'm desperate for information myself.

Regards
Lynn

Hi, read your message, albeit you posted it some time ago. I am a Tracey by birth and understand from my father William (aka Bill) that my grandfather (also William) came from Ireland and settled in Greenock with his father (William) and his mother (Catherine, aka Kathleen) and his siblings. My dad seems to think that they had other relatives spread all over West Coast of Scotland, particularly Glasgow. I can't find any trace of them and don't really know where in Ireland they came from. Could there be a link with your tree? Regards - Lynn

Hi, so you're my second cousin right? May I ask your name? I have a bunch of questions regarding your latest post... so Joseph was my dad's brother and Elizabeth was their daughter (my dad's niece)? Uncle Bunny, is that his real name? So all the kids in the family are Paddy, Marty, Eileen, Joseph, John, Bunny, Ann, Jiger (real name?), Theresa, Mary and Mick? Wow grandma was busy! Did you mean to write Turnbull instead of Tunbull for my grandmas maiden name? Do you know what her husbands name was (my grandpa)?

Do you have a Facebook account?

Nice to meet you Joyce, I'll add you as a friend on Facebook. You live just up the road from me, I live in Newmarket. About uncle Marty, the last I saw of him, he was alive and kicking in Toronto, did he die just recently? Dad (Paddy) said that Mary wasn't right in the head, is he right? My mom left Paddy when I was little and the circumstances were not good as she basically fled for her life. I met up with him again briefly as a teen but all I was interested in then was getting as much money off of him as I could, he didn't want anything to do with me anyways so it didn't work out. It was about 3 years ago when his long time girlfriend Carol passed away when we got back in touch. That lasted for a little over a year but now we don't speak - my choice (he scares me). He and my mom never married so I didn't get the Tracey name so I want to learn as much as I can about our family. We can hook up on Facebook and chat some more. I'm going to try and start a tree on here so feel free to add to it, It'll be based on what I learn from you afterall.

Mary

Suzy,
You may try calling the city hall he was living in when he passed away or the county clerk...I think it was Melville, Suffolk county, NY. (I looked it up on the Social Security Death Index.) However, he may have died in Melville, but that possibly was not where he was living. They may share information with you or you may be able to get a copy of the death certificate. I'm not sure what the rules are, but if you are his daughter a death certificate should be available to you.
Another way is to search for someone is to use whitepages.com. I have searched for a last name in the a town and then just got on the phone and made random calls. I start out telling that I'm searching for the family of so and so and ask if they would give me a minute of their time. Most people are willing to chat a little.
I'll look into the family info in Scotland. I subscribe to the whole Ancestry.com site. I'll let you know if I find anything of interest.

Hi! I am Ron Tracey. I was adopted by Claude William Tracey and recall him mentioning a son named Gordon. I have a very fragile, due to being under water during 2 hurricanes, copy of his divorce papers. Ida Velna Tracey was awarded custody of Gordon Odell Tracey. He was 4 years old when the papers were signed by L.L. Parks, Circuit Judge. The decree was "Done and ordered in Tampa, Florida on October 26, 1953."
I hope a middle name and his age at the time of divorce will help you.
-Ron
