I am looking for Eliza Traer. May have been born in 1817 and died 1873. I need to know her husband. He may be John T. Marsh. I really need to know if they had a son named William W. Marsh. Her father may be James Montgomery Traer and her mother was Parthenia Fletcher. If they had children named Mary Bell, William W., Gabriel, John D., Thomas E., then I am on the right track. Thanks, Renny

Hi Marion!
My grandfather was Cary Allen Traer and my mother his second child, Nelle Bernice Traer Sunley. When my mother was quite young she met your father and his twin brother and determined on the spot that she would have twins herself. And she did! My twin brother has done a huge amount of research on the Traer's. If you haven't been in touch, you must. His email is esunley@verizon.net.

My Dad's oldest brother was Cary Allen Traer, b. Texas
Dad was a twin, John Wesley, his twin was George Fletcher Traer. Their father was Isaac Allen Traer, b 1844 and in Civil war out of Iowa, his father was also George Fletcher, whose father was James Montgomery. Daddy's little brother was also James Montgomery. Both brothers George & James went to calif. and died there. Chances are we are related somewhere in the past. Cary Allen Traer was named after his grandfather on mother's side Cary Allen Leeson. It is good to hear from any Traer as their are so few of us. Marion Traer Downs.

Re: Parthenia Fletcher

Hello Marion and Barbara-

I too am a descendant of Parthenia Fletcher and James Montgomery Traer, and from them, James Clarkson Traer and Marcia Wright Ferguson, and from them Glenn Wood Traer and Ida Solberg, and from them, Charles Solberg Traer and Josephine Schumate. In short, I am one of three remaining descendants of this branch who stems from the Chicago Traers.
At this point in my research, Parthenia remains an enigma; however, some evidence suggests she married James Montgomery Traer by 1820 (exact date and location unknown to me), and in 1821 their first son (Levi) was born. In 1825 their second son (James Clarkson "JC") was born in Knox County, Ohio. They removed there about 1824 or 1825.
Parthenia died about 1839, although I do not know if she died in Knox County. I have discovered that James Montgomery Traer removed to the "frontier," Muscatine County, Iowa Territory, in 1845, with his son, "JC."

If either of you ladies have any other information that would help fill in the genealogical blanks in my research, I would truly appreciate it. As well, I may have other information that would prove useful to you.

Barbara Headle
bheadle@uccs.edu

You family is downline from James Clarkson Traer, and
I am down from George Fletcher Traer. They were brothers.
I have nothing but birth and death of Parthena Fletcher.
My father was John Wesley Traer, his twin brother, who died
in Calif. was another George Fletcher Traer. Their little brother, who was born in Indian Terr. in 1900 was James Montgromery. Cary Traer the oldest boy just had 3 girls so he named one of his daughters first name Traer. Dad & Mom had 2 boys, but they just had girls so that ended the Traer name here. James M. Traer had one daughter, who never married and one son, also James, he had a daughter and divorced no other children. George Fletcher, dads twin had one son John Clyde. He had a son and is carring on the line in Calif., but I have lost touch with his decendants. Otherwise the Traer line is dying out. I am trying to get some of my grandkids when they have children to name one of them Traer, but they look at me kind of strange. If you want me to send you the Traer line that I have, you need to email me at mdowns@duracom.net
Marion,

Nice to hear from you. I haven't found out anything more about Parthenia Fletcher. The Traers in my ex-husband's line were some really quirky folks, very interesting lives. His aunt, Marcia Traer, lives here in Tucson. She tells lots of funny stories about her relatives but of course does not remember anyone as far back as the common ancestor between our two lines.

She was one of only two children of Morton Traer. Her father is of course deceased, as well as her sister. Although both these girls had children, the Traer name died out with that generation in this line. The ancestors of this line went to Chicago in about 1900 and I believe many of them stayed there.

Do you have any inkling about the ancestry of Parthenia?

Barbara Ball

I am looking into the Traer family, as it married into mine, found some information you might find interesting. Newspapers in New Brunswick have a few listings:
1. d. Chatham Saturday 23 Feb 1895, after a lingering illness, Leopold George Frederick Traer, a native of Exeter, England, 78th year, left wife and two children.
2. d. Napan (Northumberland Co.) 28 Dec 1888, Esther Traer w/o Thos Traer age 35, interment in St. Paul's Churchyard.
3. m. tuesday 14 Apr 1868, by Rev Wm Henderson, George Traer Jr., Chatham/ Miss Sarah McEwen, Newcastle Parish.
4 Wholesale & Tavern licences granted for county of Northumberland Co. for 1880 -- George Traer (Chatham).

I have a couple of sites with vital records for New Brunswick if interested.

My tie to the Traer is as follows: Frederick Traer married a Elizabeth Finethy 4 July 1892. Elizabeth was from Harcourt and it is her line I'm trying to find information on. Elizabeth and Frederick Traer had children Charles, Lucy, Guy and Gladys in the 1911 Census.

Any information you have with this family will help, I do not know if Leopold was this Frederick's father??

Hi Susan Good to hear from you. It looks like you got the bug for research. I don't even have Elizabeth as a daughter of Wm. G. Traer. As he was killed at a fairly early age (from what to sent me from others) his kids were scattered. We don't have much info on Pa. in this area unless I go to the Dallas library. He was supposed to be killed in a explosion of a powder mill in Fayette Co. Pa. I sure would like to get some info on it. I do have Emil Sunley's address, but would rather give it over direct line. I usually hear from him about once or twice a year, but it has been over a year now. I hope he wasn't one of those at the Capital Sep. 11. I sent him a Christmas card and it didn's come back, but I usually get one from him. Emil's grandfather Cary was my father's oldest brother. He sent me his book on his family and I sent him what I had on mine. Let me hear from you again. Marion Traer Downs in So. Ok

John A. TRAER  (funeral) d. 20 September, 1899 - Kansas City, MO

"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Friday, September 22, 1899

FUNERAL OF JOHN A. TRAER

The funeral of John A. TRAER occurred yesterday from his late
home at 3110 Peery avenue. The burial was in Elmwood cemetery.
Rev. J. E. Roberts officiated at the funeral.

Mr. TRAER was 68 years old. He fell from his bicycle at Eleventh street
and Grand avenue Tuesday afternoon and died later from hemorrhage of
the brain. Nearly a year ago Mr. TRAER received a similar fall at Twelfth
street and Grand avenue. Both falls were attended by mystery, but it is
now believed that violent exercise on the bicycle caused Mr. TRAER to lose
control of himself. In his first fall, Mr. TRAER ran into a buggy, severely
bruising himself and causing concussion of the brain. He was attended by
the police surgeon at that time.

============================================
(I have no connection with this person but I'd appreciate
knowing if you found this posting helpful.)
============================================
Visit the Jackson County, Missouri Message Board to see
deaths in the Kansas City, MO & Kansas City, KS areas.
============================================
neirbo
