Ancestry

My name is John M. Trail. I am the son of Charles E. Trail of Twila, Kentucky. My Father was born September 1920. He passed away April 2003. His Father (my Grandfather) was John Trail (no middle name) born I think 1896 in Sneedsville, Tennessee and died 1965. Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1937 until 1962 and my Grandfather served in the U.S. Army 1917-1918. My Great Grandfather was Jefferson Trail. I do not know when he was born or where, but he died in Harlen Gas, Kentucky in 1927. If anybody knows anything about Jefferson Trail (born in Tennessee 18??) I would appreciate any information.

These announcements were clipped and pasted into a journal (mostly of national news) from the estate of my late grandmother who resided in Frederick, Maryland. Most of the articles were not labeled with dates, and some were not in order. Therefore, the date listed may not be accurate.
Trail/Traill in Aberdeenshire circa 1846

What a treasure trove! Possibly someone can link my family in. I look forward to hearing from you.
I am the son of John Alexander May Trail, b:9/29/07 in Fraserborough, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He in turn was the son of Alexander May Trail of Fraserborough (b:2/5/1877). Alec's father, John Park Trail (b:4/27/1846) was reputed to be captain/part-owner of a sailing ship, the "Ayden Forest", which was lost at sea off the coast of South America (circa 1893). We think the father of John Park Trail was Alexander Traill of Pitsligo, (or Pittullie?) Aberdeen, who was married to Ann Tait. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar

I am trying to connect my FL Trail family to the rest of the clan. Thomas was the first. He named sons David, Charles, Maxie. There are also Charles Ray, Brant, And Willie. Ollie Lee was nicknamed "Buck". I have dates only for Nellie--b. 1866, married 1888, died 1904. They were in Alachua/Gilcrist county. All I every knew first hand was that they played Appalaician music.

POW/MIA Korean War, TRAIL

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Frederick County, Maryland as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: JOSEPH HAYES TRAIL
Born: Jan. 21, 1932, Caucasian
Date of loss: November 30, 1950, Prisoner of War (POW)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Trail family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I am the daughter of John William Trail, born in McHenry, Ky. His family included many Moores and numerous siblings (James, Thurmond, Edwin, Archie, Mary, Dorothy and Joe Dean). They grew up around Beaver Dam, Ky and most migrated up to southwest Michigan. We were always told that the family got to Ky, via W.VA, from England and Scotland. My father passed away in 1996, and most of his siblings are no longer around. I am in the Maryland area and my sister is out west, though we grew up in Michigan.

James Trail Excise Office at Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland Died 1832

I am looking for information concerning James TRAIL, who was an Excise Officer in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, in the early 1800s. According to his monument inscription, he died in August 1832. His wife was Jane CLARK, who was born about 1751, and died in January 1818. According to his will, he had three children alive in 1823.
He lists having a son named Thomas Gordon TRAIL, living in London, his occupation is listed as a Cooper.
He has a daughter named Mary TRAIL (died 1840) who married Robert BRUCE (died before 1823). They had five children, that James lists in his will; Jean BRUCE, Robert BRUCE, Mary BRUCE, James BRUCE and Alexander BRUCE.
James TRAIL’s third child is listed as Marjory TRAIL, married to John PIRIE. At the time that the will was written, they do not appear to have any children.
James TRAIL and Jane CLARK may have also had another son, James TRAIL, who died in 1823.
Any help of hints with this family is appreciated, especially with Mary TRAIL and Robert BRUCE’s family
Thank You,
Michael Black

The book starts with a James Trail who married Catherine Neish. There are several different spellings for her name. They had 5 children. Elizabeth, John, James, Isobel, and Alexander. Alexander Trail married Margaret Wallace 5 Oct,1794. They had 4 children. Elizabeth, William, Sophia, and Alexander. William Trail is my g.g.g.grandfather. He married Rachel Henderson 29 Nov,1822. They had 6 children. William, Ann, Margaret, Isabella (or Isobel), Thomas, and Helen. I have most of the decendants of Margaret, Isabella, Thomas, and Helen. Thomas is my g.g.grandfather. He came over from Scotland and setteled in New Brunswick, and also married and had several children.
Trail or Traill

I am married to Gordon Traill, the first of his line of Traill's to be born in Australia.
My son James Traill (who has posted messages on here before) is the first James to be born in Australia, as every generation of Traill's has a James. My husband's hail from St. Andrew's in Dundee, Scotland, but date back to the 13th Century where Walter Traill was Archbishop of St. Andrew's where my father-in-law and all his family were born and some still reside today. In the 14th century there were two brothers, James and John Traille (sometimes Traelle). They were both ministers of the Church. James stayed in Scotland, while John took his ministry to England. Thus there are English Traill's and Scottish Traill's. How the Traill's came to America was by a William Traill who was a passenger on the Marlborough, bound for Savannah, Georgia in 1774. Somewhere afterward the second L was dropped. So all Traill's regardless of spelling are related. There are also Traill's in Ireland. In 1765 Dr. James Traill was Bishop of Down and Connor. At present Anthony Traill is a fellow of Trinity College, Dublin. i hope this info helps some of you. I think I have more also stored away somewhere. look forward to hearing some replies
Shona Traill
