Minerva Trammell was the daughter of James C. Trammel and Susan Russell. When James died in the Civil War, Harvey Morse, a brother-in-law, promised to take care of Susan and her children. Well, he bedded Susan and two of her oldest daughters producing 18 children over the already 6 he had with his own wife.

The Trammells are ancestors of my mother-in-law, so I've gotten a lot of info on them.
Mary in Michigan

If your wife is descended from William Sherman Trammell, then her gg-grandmother was actually Elizabeth Pershall, not Amanda. Jarrett Henderson Trammell married Susan Pershall, who was 1/2 Cherokee. A few years later her sister Elizabeth came to live with them (I seem to remember her as being around 14-15 years old, I don't have my notes with me right now). When Jarrett travelled to Arkansas as a scout for the Union army, he took Elizabeth with him and left Amanda at home with their 4 or 5 children. Two children are the result of this event: William Sherman Trammell and a girl named Eudy. When they returned to Taney County MO, Jarrett had another son with Susan. In subsequent census records it is shown that Elizabeth lived with William Sherman until her death, I can find no information on whatever happened to Eudy. Susan and Elizabeth's parents were James Redmon Pershall and Adelia McFarland. William Sherman Trammell married Mary Alice Johnson (her father was George Johnson of Forsythe MO). We follow the line of their daughter, Susan Evaline Trammell who married Carl Westley Martin. Their daughter Ruby Elizabeth married Monto Vernley Varah, parents to my companion, Robert D Varah.

Please, where is it documented Thomas Trammell came from Devonshire, England? How is it known to be same Thomas since there is nothing in America to say from where he came. I have tried to locate where the man who brought him over as indentured servant lived here and in England and cannot. If found where Wyeth/Wythe lived in England it might document where Thomas lived.

Jean bgw3133@aol.com

I have been a Trammell researcher for 30 years and I have been unable to locate the info on parents of immigrant, Thomas Trammell. I do not believe it exists because everyone seems to have received their info from another. Those I contact did not personally find their informaion. First, there has to be something in America that tells us where Thomas lived before America. A name can't be picked out of England just because it might match. Such as Philip or Thomas. Be careful. If you find documentation PLEASE let me know. I have tried to locate where Wyeth/Wythe lived when he brought Thomas over from England as indentured servant. There is or was no info on him on Internet.

Jean bgw3133@aol.com

Do you know who John Trammell was married to? I am a Wright
family researcher, and I have Frederick Wright m. to a Trammell and his sister Anne was married to a Captain John Trammell. I have found the Wright's in Warren county, and some did settle in DeKalb county,Tn. From what little information that I have obtained Anne probably died and
he remarried. I would like to confirm this and find out
names of children. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks
geraldine

My grandmother was Alice Virginia Trammell born near Birmingham, Alabama June 24, 1927 to Robert Andrew Trammell and Nettie Virginia Culver (both from Alabama)

SHE HAD A BROTHER NAMED J.W. TRAMMELL, who was much older than her (may have had a different mother?) could this be the one you are looking for? He would have had a brother Ivan about his same age, and at least 4 younger sisters: Waunice "Nicky", Chris, Dorotha Fay, and Virginia.

If you think this is your JW I have a photo of him as a child- very poor quality- but would be happy to share.

Ivan and Jesse were the brothers of my Grandma Gin! She was Alice Virginia Trammell Young Chaney (1927-Jan 2009). I have a mystery photo of a young, handsome man in his teens/twenties that I found in her belongings when she passed away just a few months ago.

The back of the photo reads " ____ Trammell (photo is torn and the first name is no longer there) Rt 1 Adamsville, Ala" It also has the year, if memory serves it's from the 1940's.

At first I thought it was Jesse, but now I'm pretty sure it was one of their cousins. Email me and I'll send you a copy and we can compare notes!

Alright, I'm driving myself nuts over here!!

My name is Melissa Trammell.
My father is Millard Trammell.
His father was John Millard Trammell, Jr.
His father was John Millard Trammell, Sr.

This is as far back as I can go before I totally hit a wall. I just called my dad and according to him, John Millard Sr.'s dad was named Hugh Trammell and his wife was named Katherine. John Millard Sr also apparently had a brother named Prentice. AS FAR AS I KNOW, they were all in Alabama -- I know everyone from John Millard Sr. down has been born in Alabama.

If anyone reading this has any information on this branch of the Trammell family, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

p.s. Another thing I've noticed -- Millard and Walter seem to be VERY popular names in this family -- my dad is Millard and he has a brother named Walter -- but none of the older ones seem to be related to us, at least not in any way I can tell -- the Walter Trammell who was born in 1876 and died in 1926... no relation.

Thank you for sharing this reference list! I have seen these sources mentioned here and there but now I have a list (which I have printed).
My mother has the McCleskey book, which must be out-of-print. Fortunately some Trammell cousins alerted her when it was printed and she purchased a copy.

Elizabeth Turney
