I have a Catharine Louise Trampe born 1860 in Lavelsloh who was the daughter of Johann Conrad Trampe born 1810 in Lavelsloh. Would this by chance be the same person? I am looking for Trampes who came to St. Louis that may be related to our branch dating back to Friedrich Wilhelm Trampe born May 12, 1764 in Diepenau.
Hi, Don't know if this Web site might help. It lists an Ernst Wilhelm "William in America" Trampe born 1827. It also lists a Wilhelm b 1854 and a brother Caspar born 1856 at the Web site listed below. I found my Trampe ancestors in Lavelsloh, which is close by. They came to America in 1856 and settled in Metropolis, IL after traveling to St. Louis to spend the winter with relatives.
Let me know if you have any problems and I will try to help. Sharon Trampe e-mail: macs1one@yahoo.com

The Web Site is:
http://www.ortsfamilienbuecher.de/famreport.php?ofb=loehne&a...

Dear Adam, I have found a German Web Site that you might find very interesting. I haven’t had time to check yet to see if we might be related, but my Gr. Gr. Grandfather was Johann Heinrich Trampe born Nov. 11, 1799. He came Metropolis, Illinois to be with his sons, August Wilhelm Trampe, born Nov. 4, 1839, and his brother, Henry Kunrad Trampe, born Feb. 22, 1837. I had a Gr. Gr. Uncle who stayed in Germany and his family now live in Lavelsloh. I grew up in Metropolis and have also been searching for family in the same area as you. Our branch is from the Diepenau area, and I have found living family members in Lavelsloh, which we visited in 2003!

The Web site is: http://www.ortsfamilienbuecher.de/

and I found your Gr. Grandfather Heinrich Friedrich b. 17 Nov 1867 and his father Ernst Heinrich Wilhelm Trampe b. 21 Jan 1827 listed. I copied the Address below and it should go directly to the family report. The information is in the “Local heritage book Lohne”

http://www.ortsfamilienbuecher.de/famreport.php?ofb=loehne&a...

Good Luck with your search. I would appreciate know more about how your gr grandparents came to America. I'm working on a web site but I'm just learning on my own so it's slow going.

If you have trouble with the above address this is how I found it:

http://www.ortsfamilienbuecher.de/

then under Westfalen and to the right of Lavelsloh is Lohne: Click on Lohne

Click on ENGLISH in the left margin and then you will see: List of Surnames

Click on List of Surnames
Click on T for Trampe and then down the list

You are probably related to me. The Iowa Trampe's are related to me, but I don't know if the Nebraska Trampe's are. You might be the "missing link" so to speak. My great-grandparents came from Pomerania in the 1890's. They were Carl and Auguste Schmidt Wendorf. Their daughter Bertha married my grandfather Julius Trampe who came from Pomerania also in about the same time period. Another daughter married a Marquardt. I don't know of any Gnirk's in the family tree.

This is a total shot in the dark, but I am literally desperate to find any information on my gr,gr,gr.grandfather. Grandma's name was Trimpa, but there's a lot of speculation that her father changed the spelling from Trampe. In about 1859 Frank Trampe(?), along with twin brother Jeff, stowed away on a ship to America to evade the army. I find NO info. about either of them.
It seems to me as a child my grandmother Myrtle Trimpa spoke of perhaps some Trimpa's pronouncing their name as Trimpe. She married My grandfather Thomas W. Trimpa. Whose mother was Kate Molitore Trimpa. She was married to Frank Trimpa. They settled in Western Kansas on a farm near the small town of Orfrel-(sp?). Frank's wife's father was Joseph Molitore who came across from Barvaria in the mid 1800's. The Molitors settles outside Spearville, Kansas this town was near Dodge City, Kansas and I have heard stories of them chartering an early bank in that area. What do you think? Did any of this information help you? Please respond, I would like to hear from you.
Thomas N. Trimpa

I believe you are a 2nd cousin of mine. I think you're grandmother, Louise Kasten was originally Louise Wendorf and a sister of my grandmother, Bertha Wendorf. Louise married a Kasten and moved to Portage. My grandmother married Julius Trampe and moved to Waukesha. My father, also Julius, was born there. If you're interested in more details I think a late 1st cousin of mine may have found out more. His son has his records.

But I wasn't completely right. You have a lot more details that I was never completely clear about.
First of all, you said that your grandmother Louise's maiden name was Wendorf. Wouldn't it be Marguardt, her father's last name?
You and I are not 2nd cousins as I mistakenly said in my last posting. Your mother is my 2nd cousin. You and I are 2nd cousins-once-removed. Carl Wendorf and Augusta Schmidt are my great-grandparents. They are your great-great-grandparents.
I have pictures of your great-grandmother "Tina". We knew her as Tanta (German for Aunt) Tina. I and my family visited her and Bill Marguardt, Jr. many times. We were at her 90th birthday party which would have been in October '53. I was 13 at the time.
Albertina and Bertha (my grandmother) were sisters.
Walter Hollup was my father's brother-in-law. He was married to my Aunt Bertha (not to be confused with her mother Bertha).
It seems as if that part of the family only used a few names and it is confusing. There were many Carl's, Bertha's, Louise's, Albert or Albertina's, Johann's, Elsie's, William's.
Thanks for clearing some things up for me. When I was younger I never paid much attention to who was who. I'm not into genealogy but sometimes its interesting to find these things out.
Ron Trampe

You mentioned you had a list of Germans who traveled by ship to America. Can you check and see if a Johann Henry Trampe, my Gr. Gr. Grandfather came over sometime just after the Civil War around 1867? He was born in 1799. His two sons, Henry C. Trampe and August William Trampe arrived shortly before the war. Teaching was his profession and was a member of a Lutheran Church. He was from Lavelsloh Germany. His wife was Marie Hedewig Speckmann born in Nordel Germany in 1806. I'm also interested in locating any relatives here in the U.S. We have one branch from Golconda, IL that I have been unable to locate as they have all moved out of the area and we are planning a Trampe reunion at Ft. Massac this September 14. If you have any information, e-mail me at Macs1@Juno.com
