Hi.
I've read this "Trants from Devonshire, England" thread with great interest. My g-g-g-grandmother was Elizabeth (Jarvis) Trant who sailed with her husband, John Trant, and their children from Torquay, Devon, England to Galveston, Texas in 1849.

I would love to correspond with all of you researching these two families, the Trant and Jarvis families. I have information about the descendants of these people in America. I have been attempting to find out more about them in Devon before coming to America, and I am also interested in finding any British cousins of the Jarvis and Trant family.

Please contact me at read2befree@yahoo.com.
Thank-you!
Teresa (Hamilton-Pepper) Rust
California
USA

Yes, this is my family. Elizabeth Jarvis was my GGGrandmother. My GGrandmother was Priscilla Trant Andrews. My Grandmother was Alice Andrews who married Robert Henry Carroll. John Trant and family came to Grimes County, Texas in 1849 on the Isabella entering at Galveston, Texas. I grew up in Grimes County. I have a copy of a newspaper from County Kerry, Ireland in 1914 that has a lot of Trant info if you are interested. If you want it, send an address and I will mail to you.

Hello,

And thank you for you reply. We are unable to make the connection to Europe with our Trant line.

** What we do know is GGGG Grandfather "Capt John Trant" born abt 1750 is believed to have been born in County Kerry, Ireland. From there no “for certain info” is known.

I have tracked all the Trant’s I can in Europe and hope to someday put the links together.

There were certainly Trant’s in Co Kerry, and Sir Patrick Trant Esq. High Sheriff of Co Kerry, And a lot of others in my records.

I do intend to make the trip to Ireland and England in the coming years to try to get more info.

I am aware however that the Name Trant is quite common in Ireland, less so in in England, I believe.

I would love to get any info on the English line’s, as I have found connections between a few of them and the Irish lines.

These lines both interconnect in the Isle of Barbados as one example.

Patrick Trant 1st Viscount Maryborough Outlawed in 1691 and forfitted his very extensive holdings in several counties in Ireland for his adhesion to James II had correspondence to family in Co Kerry. I found reference to this in records. Also he wrote to Family in England I have found. His brother was Capt Richard Trant who was the Governor of Barbados in the early 1700's. Their Mother was Annie Dubois.

At this point I do not have any surnames of Jarvis in my records. Maybe it could be a missing line for me.

Email me direct and I will send you a link to my “paf” (Personal Ancestral Files) files, where you can download the entire file. You may be able to find info in there to help your quest as well. I add all Trant info even if I do not have the connections at this time. So there is a group of English Trant’s in my files.

In addition my Great Uncle “James Buchanan Trant” 1890 was married to a woman who traced back to the WILLOUGHBY & /De Willoughby/ line to 1100 AD. Not my personal “Direct” line but within the U.S. Line of the Trant family.

She traces back to King Henry II PLANTAGENET and before, I have this line in my paf file.

Joanna DE /NETHERBURY/ & the SHEFFIELD Line also.

email me at trants4mer@embarqmail.com for link.
I look forward to hearing from any of the lines. I can best put it all together with every record possible.

Just happened upon your information.

I am from the Jarvis lineage of the Trant line. My great, great, great, great, great (5 greats) was Abraham Jarvis.

Abraham's daughter was Elizabeth Jarvis who married John Trant in 1836.

John Trant was born in 1812, Kingsbridge, Devon County, England.

Is this your family? I would love to get in touch. Thanks!

I have been doing extensive research on the Trant line for some years now. My first direct family line arrival to America was Capt. John Trant, Born in Co. Kerry, IR abt. 1750. He was a Capt. In the War of Independence. Some of the officers and gentry on England’s side of the fight were his Kinsman. (During this period Trant’s were very established as officers in English / Irish Military and some, Landed Gentry.)

I have a lot of Trant info from Co. Kerry and England but have not tied them together yet. Work in progress. Trant is also said to be pre-norge, something my family knew all along. (Yep, we were the invading Vikings of the 800's A.D.)

The Co. Kerry Trant's do in fact seem to root within Co. Kerry, Ireland to three Trant’s around 1100 A.D. and go out thru Sir Patrick Trant and Dominick Trant Governor of Barbados. This being a close land arrival to North America and perhaps the mode to progression too here as it is only about 1700 miles from the Isle of Barbados to Florida. Many Tant’s there. All related to County Kerry, Ir.

I need info from Co. Kerry and Europe of any nature from before 1700 thru 1800 when Sir Patrick's lands were forfeit for backing King James II. I have a missing link. Any Irish and/or English (Yes, they connect) Trant's in those areas TRULY INVITED TO HELP. We will provide you assistance on Family here loads of records of the North American Trant's exist. Trant history in Europe after 1800 also welcome, I have been building in that direction as well.

I am doing a collective from History Books now, on Ireland, England and Norway. Much is held in these records as well. My extensive PAF file or if you need ged File is available for downloading to all Trant’s and others interconnected. I have over 100 family names, too many to list all. I can email a full list.

All of this sounds very familiar. Pricilla was my ggrandmother. She married William Andrews. My grandmother was Alice Pricilla Andrews Carroll. The Trants were in Carlos, Grimes County, Texas. I grew up in Navasota, Grimes County, texas which is about 15 miles from Carlos. My grandparents lived in Harvey which is a few miles from Bryan, texas. I have a newspaper account from County Kerry Ireland that takes the Trants back to the 1200's.
Pat Carroll

Saw your post about John Trant. I have a John Trant b 1812 in England (wife Elizabeth b 1809). I have that they had 8 children, one named Prissila b 1842. My ggrandmother was her sister Jane b. 1847 and married C.E. Davis in 1870. John Trant came to this country about 1848. Does any of this sound familiar? If so, I would love to hear from you.
The message I am responding to is 4 years old but I will try regardless. My great grandmother was Priscilla Trant from Devonshire and was the daughter of John Trant and Elizabeth Jarvis. My grandmother was Alice Priscilla Andrews dauther of William Andrews and Priscilla. I have a newspaper article given me by my mother from County Kerry that traces the Trants back to approximately 1200 AD in County Kerry and then to Devonshire. I met a lady at a function in Virginia where I live that was also a Trant and said she found that the Trants had come from France and were originally named Aubergine (eggplant). Contact me by email if you get this and we can attempt some updates.
Pat Carroll

DATA: Trant, Charles Frankin listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Trant, Charles Frankin (Chas.)

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

I descend from the Alabama Trant family of John (Sofie), his son James (Rebecca Kelly), their sons Daniel Kelly Trant (Sheffield), John T.(Woods) , James Madison (Johnston), William Willis(Johnston); daug Sara( Roe), Rebecca and Elizabeth.(Sinkler/Sinclair). They migrated from Warren Co., GA to Henry and Dale Co. Al and then to Geneva Co, AL and Holmes Co., FL. Contact me for a read only copy of the genealogy and where you fit in. Perhaps you can help me find the parents of John who died 1799, WarrenCo., GA, wife Sofie was admx of estate. Perhaps from Virginia originally and may be in the Trent family as the names in our family were spelled both ways. John (d1799) was a Capt. in Rev. War and Ga Tax Digest of that era shows his district. His son James was Lt. in war 1812 and James son verifies both info on his application for pension. James Madison moved to Kansas. Have Civil war records of the sons. Anyone looking for this family please contact me at Mkelj@aol.com

I am looking for any info on the ancestors and children of William Philip Trant, b. 23 Jul 1851 in Keith, Grimes Co., TX. He might be a son of John and Elizabeth Trant (who came with seven children from Devonshire, England to Galveston, TX, May 11, 1849, on the Bark Issabella, and settled in Keith, Grimes Co.).

If John and Elizabeth are William's parents, I also am looking for any of their ancestors in England (and possibly in County Kerry, Ireland if that is where they originally came from).

William Trant is my children's great, great, great grandfather.

Thanks for any info!
