Re: Cornish in New Jersey

I am descended from Richard Trelease who came from Cornwall in 1770 with his brother Charles. I assume most Treleases in New Jersey are descended from them.
I have not traced Charles' descendants, but I have traced my own Trelease ancestors back to an earlier Richard Trelease (1684-1741) who lived at Perran-ar-Worthal, Cornwall, near Falmouth. I even visited that area two years ago.
Allen Trelease
atrelease@triad.rr.com
She died in SAfrica and I think he did also. I have a feeling that he was in the army in SA.If anyone has any info please let me know.
Regards
Wendy

Indian Princess

You should probably know that there is no such thing as an indian princess (except for the father daughter beauty contest held by the YMCA).

It is quite often that white people, who might have amerindian ancestry, claim to be descended or related to an "indian princess". It is a myth, nothing more.

My father had four sisters, two of them are Jessie and Edna and all went to San Diego High School.
My cousins, daughters of the two sisters,....are coming to visit me in the next couple of weeks. They would be delighted at this discovery. I am the family researcher and this is a great find!

Nancy,
I don't know if they came to New Jersey or not. The two I have just turned up on the 1871 Census in Cornwall as living with my Great Great Grandparents and as being grandchildren, but I can't figure out for sure which Cadwell daughter they are the children of and who the father was. They were not on the earlier census. Looks like one of the Cadwell daughters married a Trelease sometime around 1858, had the children together, then he either died or perhaps came to American and left them behind. They are gone by the next census as far as I can tell.

Cliff Caldwell

I personally don't have a Trelease in my family tree -- I'm looking for Cornish immigrants who were in NJ (or NY or New England), hoping to write a book.
I have 13 Trelease families so far.
Hi Sherry.

I am researching my husband's family tree, which he is a descendant of Charles & Minerva Trelease.
I was told by an aunt that there was a tradition of naming the Charles in the Trelease family either Charles Carroll or Charles Clarence. My husband is a descendant of every Charles from Charles & Minerva down. She also believes as a child she saw the Family Bible and the name Charles Carroll was in the bible. She wanted to see if there was some connection to possibly the Charles Carroll that was the signer of the Declaration of Independence. Are you aware of any connection? I would be happy to share any descendant information I have with you. I myself have also not been able to get past Charles & Minerva.
Thanks,
Michelle

I am looking for any connection between the Trelease surname and Charles Carroll, the signer of the declaration of independence. I am researching my husband's family tree, and have been told by an aunt that as a child she had seen the family bible and the name Charles Carroll was listed as an ancestor, and henceforth there has been a tradition of naming every other first-born son of a Charles, Charles Carroll.
If anyone has any info regarding this connection, I would greatly appreciate it. So far I have only gotten back to Charles Trelease & Minerva Parker Crawford. Charles Carroll was born in the mid-1700s. I have not discovered any connection so far. The Carrolls resided in Maryland and the Treleases resided in NJ.
