Lily Trent - Arkansas

I am trying to find info on a Lily Trent who was born in Arkansas about 1884/5. She married my GG-Uncle Ernest(or Earnest) H. Hannon about 1908/9 in Benton Co., Arkansas. They were in the 1920 census record in Oklahoma. He later shows up in the 1930 census with his second wife Daisy.
I have not been able to find anything else on Lily ...did she die in OK ? did they divorce?? Family records don't show anything beyond the fact that she married Ernie and they had no children.
Any help in discovering who Lily was (parents, etc) and what happened to her after 1920 will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kathy

I have Trent toes and my nearest Trent is Ann Anderson Trent 1808-1891 who married William Perkins Moseley. Their son Alexander Trent Moseley m. Maria Louise Housewright = my great great grandparents. One of their children who was living when I was a child had 6 toes, many partially webbed. Now I know from whence they came.

Thanks for the laugh! I did have one little toe operated on so that it would be straighter. So now I have 1/2 Trent toes.

My parents were Herbert Dancy Steger and Mary Wilson Pratt Spencer, natives of Buckingham, Virginia.

Re: Elizabeth Trent b. Illinois, married abt 1850 to James Norris

The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index (online) shows that James H. Norris married Eliza Ann Trent in Menard Co., IL, 17 Jan. 1850.

It's possible that this James H. Norris is the individual who was convicted of manslaughter (but later pardoned) in 1857 Mason Co., IL. I have not been able to find another James H. Norris married to an Eliza in that area and time-frame. James H. Norris and William "Duff" Armstrong were arrested for murder by beating of James Metzger. They were tried separately and James H. Norris was convicted first (of manslaughter). William Armstrong was defended in a subsequent trial - the famous Almanac Trial - by Abraham Lincoln, and found innocent.

An interesting book has been written by John Evangelist Walsh about this trial called "Moonlight - Abraham Lincoln and the Almanac Trial". From this book we learn that James H. Norris was 27 years old in 1857, married to a woman named Eliza, and that they had four children. There is quite a bit of information relating to the trial, but neither the names of James' or Eliza's parents, nor those of any of their four children, are ever mentioned.

I have not been able to find James and Eliza on the 1850 federal census schedule. Nor was I able to find James Norris on the 1855 IL state census schedule, in either Menard or Mason Counties. In 1860, James Norris can be found listed in Will Co., IL, as one of the inmates of the IL State Penitentiary in Joliet. It was noted that he was 30 years old, had been committed in 1857, was a farmer, had been born in Indiana, and that he had been convicted of murder. Walsh tells us that James was a farmer and in a destitute situation. I have not been able to find Eliza (Trent) Norris on the 1860 census and suspect that at least some of her four children may have been sent to other families for care. The Mason or Menard Co. Court Order Books may have some information on these children.

Besides Clifford Norris, a Daniel C. Norris, aged 3 years in 1860 Mason Co., and living in a Haines household, may have been a son of James and Eliza, according to one Ancestry report.

While James H. Norris was said to be destitute, we do know that he was literate. Included in the Walsh book is a copy of an Aug. 1859 handwritten letter that James sent to Abraham Lincoln from the Joliet prison and a transcript of a Feb. 1863 letter he wrote to IL Governor George Yates that he wrote from the IL State Prison. James H. Norris was pardoned in August, 1863.

A James H. Norris was listed on the 1870 census in Cane Creek township, Mason Co., IL. He was 45, living with an Estep family and working as a farm hand. Also in the household was a Susan Haines, aged 18.

According to Walsh, James H. Norris and Eliza were divorced in 1873, "she and her four children having lived apart from him for many years". In 2002, Carolyn Stewart was able to view the divorce papers at the Mason Co. Courthouse and posted about them on the Norris genforum. James stated that Eliza had "walked out" in 1859, and was gone the years of 60, 61, 62, and 63. (This might also help explain why the children were living with different families in 1860.) James accused Eliza of violating her marriage duty and obligation. He stated that he was an indulgent and kind husband. In the first filing he stated that Eliza was living with a Grover Smith. The final paper was dated Feb. 1874.

I hope this is of some help.

Sharon Carter
sharoncarter345@yahoo.com

I am trying to find any info I can on this individual. Elizabeth Trent of Illinois married James/Jason Norris about 1850. She had a son named Clifford that was born in 1851, Illinois. I "think" I found him in 1860 & 1870 census in families of different names. I'm wondering if possibly the parents died, leaving him an orphan. I cannot find any marriage, birth and death records on this person.
Hello. I am looking for relatives. My Great Grandparents on my dad (Clyde Trent's) side. Frank Trent & Sally or Sarah Blevins, and Darlin Brock & Mary Teague. My dad was born in Knox County KY, I know my Grandparents Toleman Trent & Charlotta Brock moved from Clay County Ky. I know my papaw Trent had a a few brothers, Dillard, Robert & can't remember the other one's name. I do know that a man set my greatgrandma's house on fire and killed her and an uncle. It was out of pure fatal attraction to my uncle's wife. Does this story sound familiar? We are having a reunion in Barbourville, Ky at the park on Saturday August 8th starting at 12 noon. email me at scentcc@aol.com for more info.

Hi, Don,
Thanks for posting your excellent work online. I also saw your exchange with Sharon Turner on GenForum. You asked three questions in one of those posts. My responses below:
The questions I am trying to answer is:
1) Who are the parents of William B. Trent? Guess is that he might be the William who was son of Henry Trent. On Rootsweb, you show his spouse as Mary Almond, but that marriage is late for his birth date. Seems possible that he was the spouse of Sarah W.(ilkinson) Blankinship, daughter or Archibald and Prudence. No way to substantiate, however.
2) What is the relationship of Sally Trent to John Jones?
John Jones was the brother-in-law of Sally Trent (daughter or Archibald and Prudence Blankinship, b about 1795-6; married William B. Trent about 1814; he probably died b. 1820. No issue known. She may have been a lifelong invalid. Lived with her father, then her brother (Rowland B.) then her brother-in-law, John Jones, then her niece Sarah Jane Jones Trent, wife of Lafayette C. Trent.)
3) How is Sally Trent (Nov 1795 – c. 1880), formerly Sally Blankenship, the aunt of Fayette C. Trent? Not the aunt of Fayette, but of his wife Sarah Jane Jones Trent.
Thanks again for your posting or Campbell County records. They have provided me many missing dates.
Dan Cambridge
Re: anyone know about a Harry Trent ?

Harry C. Trent did, indeed, die in Chicago, 5 April 1906. He was buried in the Osceola Grove Cemetery in Elmira, Illinois. Annie L. (Gerard) Trent died 6 Nov. 1926 and was buried in the same cemetery.

It is interesting that George Trent, who lived in Brooklyn and had a son named Harry C. Trent, died in 1907. We know he had at least two sons, Frank B. and Harry, but he was survived by only one - probably Frank - at the time of his death. This George Trent, born in England around 1822, was a well-known engraver and restorer of documents.

I am the volunteer Trent Group Administrator for FamilyTreeDNA. If there is a direct line male descendant who would be interested in participating in our Trent Surname Project from this line, it might be very helpful to you and to future researchers. Here is our website address:http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Trent%20Y-DNA%20Project/... This line is not so far represented in our study, and there would be no cost to a participant from this line. We do have one line from England already tested, but none from Scotland.

Feel free to email me: Sharoncarter345@yahoo.com, with any questions.

Thank you, and best of luck with your research~
Sharon

I have been able to learn a little about your Harry Trent. Harry C. Trent married Annie Gerard in Stark Co., IL, 1 Jan 1896, according to the IL Statewide Marriage Index available online. According to the 1900 Stark Co., IL census, Harry was born in VT in Dec. 1866, and, as you mention, his father is stated to have been born in Scotland and his mother in VT.

In 1910, Annie was listed as a widow. A Harry Trent died 5 April 1906 at the age of 40 in Chicago according to the Illinois Statewide Death Index, Pre-1916.

Harry is often a nickname for Henry; I've found no Henry or Harry Trents born about 1866 on any Vermont census lists. However, a four year old Henry C. Trent was listed in 1870 in NY. Here are his family listings in 1870 and 1880:

1870 census, Kings Co., NY, 7-Wd, Brooklyn, p. 392

Trent, George 49 MW Restorer, b.
Hello Gretchen, yes there was Cherokee blood with the Trents. As far as I have been able to decern, the Trent's were living in England before coming to America. They were English. Josiah Charles Trent was a relative to Will Rogers. I moved back to California from Huntsville, Alabama. I thought I would retire back there, but the humidity was just too much for me. Lets get together sometimes. How is Julie doing these days? Your cousin, Dennis Simpson

Chancery Causes, Trent

The following Court records are a summary of Chancery Causes that reference the TRENT surname in Campbell County, Virginia. A Chancery Cause can span a period of many years and contain hundreds of pages and only a summary of the material would be practical for genealogical research. Each case has a file number that uses the first four digits to indicate the year the cause was ended. The documents are summarized in the order provided and are not strictly in chronological order. I did not read every page in each case and therefore some important data may have been omitted from my summary. My title for each cause lists the: file number, number of pages that made up the case, county, case title, and surnames mentioned in the case by the indexer. Summary was created by Don Trent on 18 Apr 2009.

The file titled Chancery_Cause_Campbell.Doc is in MS Word format, 25 pages in length, and is located at:
http://sites.google.com/site/trentfamilyhistory/Home/researc...

Trent Chancery Causes, Campbell Co., VA

I've done a little searching on Thomas B. Trent having a father named Alexander. The Thomas Trent son of Alexander that I found couldn't be the Thomas B. Trent I've been working on because there is a birth year difference of over 30-40 years plus Alexander appears to have died a couple years before our Thomas was born in about 1797-1798. I think that two Thomas' have been mixed up???

The naming patterns are of interest...wonder if the lines meet farther up the line...

The POSSIBLE parent that I have is a William Trent. I do not know who Thomas' parents are...the line that I have ends with Thomas with only a possible parent from what other information has been posted out there as possibly William. I have not done much with this line for some time.

I just took a look at the 1850 census image for the Thomas Trent family in Russell Co., VA and see that his grandson Calvin is named Calvin Freelin...with no " to bring the Trent name down. I'd be looking for a Freelin (or similar spelling) as Calvin's father.

Sorry, I have no information. I have several unwed moms on our tree that have created huge sections of empty branches. I wonder if the name Calvin or Freelin might give a clue. Have you tried looking through the 1850 census in that area for young men of that name/s? Might lead to nothing at all...and even if you ran across a possibility...it probably will not result in an answer, but might give you a possible family to research.

I did some more searching today...a number of postings over at genforum on the glob of Trents in VA. Several people have been working hard trying to sort them all out. Some line have even gotten into the DNA thing. To narrow things down on the Trent surname page I ran a search on two names in the search box...scott and Poole. Scott is a Trent and has been researching the Trents. Poole is William B. Trent's wife Anny/Amy's Poole. I read through lots of stuff and settled in with posting number 6425 which gave a list of 27 different Thomas Trents. The Thomas B. Trent married to Ann/Anny/Amy Poole is number 6 and he lists Thomas B Trent's father as a William and a mother as a Priscilla or Sally/Sallie. I don't think there is too much problem with who Thomas' children are...it is his ancestors that have been more of a problem. I do not know who Thomas' grandparents are.
