TRIPLETT book info, Watauga Co. info

hi,
my name is terry triplett.I was born in Triplett, Watauga County, NC. I have a copy of the triplett book printed by crown printing, fullerton, california. the title of the book is Tripping Down the Triplett Path. It was written by Mrs. Hortense Triplett Abbott. The copy I have was published in 1982. She spent much of her life traveling the U.S. reserching the family name. There is a picture of her in the book at age 80 in 1975, so she may no longer be alive.
I will be glad to help any one I can who wants info on the tripletts from NC. There is some oral history on some members of the family that has been passed down thru our family. Our family came to this part of north carolina around December 1778. Legend has it the family came here with Daniel Boone on his way to Kentucky. Triplett NC is on the Daniel Boone Trail thru North Carolina.
Does anyone have info on the tripletts pre 1660 in england or other european countries?
Some Tripletts are listed in the census here as Indian, I will try to find the year and family and post at a later date.Does anyone else have other Indian heritage info they can share?
Thanks to everyone for all the info these pages contain.
terry

I have William Jefferson Triplett's request for a social security card in the 1940's. He is my grandfather.

The social security card application says that William Jefferson Triplett's father is a man named JAPE Triplett. I've never heard of JAPE, and that might be a nickname.

William Jefferson Triplett married Charlsie ROENA Thomas [Tomas] and that is the spelling of her name as I knew it growing up, and on her death certificate. However, some spell her name Charlsie ROWENA.

Any help on this family would be appreciated.

debra.triplett@gmail.com
My wife is connected to Nimrod's son, William "Biddie" Triplett, but I'm not sure exactly how--he adopted Annie and Martha Osborne who were the children of a close relative, possibly named Louanne Triplett.

I am looking for Louisa E Barnes who married Lorenzo Dow Triplett. Louisa was born in approximately 1843 in either Caldwell County or Wilkes County North Carolina. Lorenzo is my great great grandfather and I have lots of details about him but not about Louisa. According to family lore they were married in May 1860 in Caldwell County but I can find no birth or death record that seems to fit. Also the later Census shows Lorenzo married to a Martha Walker (I think he adopted some of her younger children) and she is buried beside him at Colliers Methodist Church in Whitnel NC. I have no idea what happened to Louisa. If any one has more specific info please respond. Thanks!

John Triplett, b abt 1834 Humphreys Co, TN

I am descended from John Triplett. Apparently, this Triplett family were not land owners and tended to move about. Later members of the family were timber cruisers and cutters, share croppers and farmers, trappers, etc.

The above John was born in Humphreys Co, TN about 1834. Humphreys is in middle Tenn on the Tenn River. A census indicates that his father was born in Ill. date unknown.

Has anyone identified this family in, probably southern, ILL that may have dispersed down the Ohio and TN rivers?

Thanks.
Descendants of William H. Triplett and Jerusha Burns

I am searching for descendants of:

Jerome D. Smith, Sr., b. abt. 1830 in South Carolina and Mary Elizabeth Burns b. abt 1839 in Alabama.
William H. Triplett, b. abt. 1832 in South Carolina and Jerusha Burns, b. abt 1839 in Alabama.

Mary Elizabeth Burns and Jerusha Burns are daughters of John W. and Manerva Burns. John W. Burns was born abt. 1812 in South Carolina, and Manerva was born abt 1820 in South Carolina,

My hope is that some of their descendants can shed some light on the fate of John W. and Manerva Burns.

John W. and Manerva Burns were in Pontotoc County, Mississippi in 1850, Nacogdoches County, Texas in 1860, and Rusk County, Texas in 1870. They vanished between 1870 and 1880, along with their younger children, William, George, John, Roxana and Bethena.

I am descended from their daughter Manerva Lucinda Burns, who married Moody Valentine Holleman. They remained in Rusk County, Texas, although she died in 1878.

Jerome D. Smith, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Burns were in Nacogdoches county, Texas in 1860, and in Rusk County, Texas in 1870 and 1880. Mary Elizabeth died between 1880 and 1890. Jerome D. Smith, Sr. remarried, to Sarah E. McGuire on 24 Sep 1890. They remained in Rusk County, Texas until at least 1910.

Some of Jerome D. Smith, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Burns' descendants moved to Central Texas, others to Oklahoma and California.
Jerome D. Smith, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Burns' son Elijah Dolphus Smith and family were in Mills County, Texas in 1900, and in Kern County, California in 1910.
Jerome D. Smith, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Burns' son Calvin M. Smith and family were in Mills County, Texas from 1910 until at least 1930.
Jerome D. Smith, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Burns' son John W. Smith and family were in Washita County, Oklahoma, Elk Township, in 1900.

William H. Triplett and Jerusha Burns were in Leake County, Mississippi in 1860 and 1870, and in Ouachita parish, Louisiana in 1880 and apparently stayed in that area.

Descendants of John W.
JEM Triplett

For yrs. it has been passed down that my gggrandfather, JEM Triplett (known as Squire) was responsible for the design and making of the Triplett/Scott rifle. He was supposed to have made it while incarcerated at the Rock Island, Illinois prison during the civil war. One of the guns is on display there as I saw it as a child. Upon visiting the Arsenal Museum last year, they had no record on it or of his name appearing in their records of prisoners. Anyway, can someone set me straight on this? I do have info that says a Lewis Triplett patented that gun in 1864 and it was never used during the war. I would love to set the record straight (only in my own records) It has been and always will be known as my gggrandfather's project.

JESSE TRIPLETT from Wilkes County, North Carolina

I was hoping someone would be able to help me with this JESSE TRIPLETT. I have been trying to research this family. There are two JESSE TIPLETT'S in North Carolina at the same time, so I am unable to determine which Jesse I am looking for. I have check various Triplett family books and I am still unable to determine which Jesse is the one that I need.

I have found the following information in "Tennessee Convicts:Records of the State Penitentiary" by Charles A and Tomye M. Sherrill.

"DANIEL ESTEP from Carter County. Crime grand Larceny. Sentence: Three Years from 23 July 1841. Rec'd July 23, 1941, He is 40 years old, 5'7" high, weighs 188 lbs. Born and brought up in Nash County, North Carolina. Has been married and has one child. His wife is dead, his son about 14 or 15 years old is living at his grandfathers JESSE TRIPLETT'S in Wilk(e)s Co. near Wilksbourough. Said Estep has dark grey hair, black eyes, dark skin, has had the left thumb of the left hand out of place, which still remains out. He has had three brothers convicted, two of whom are still in prison, their names are Squire, Enoch and William. (Ledger 45, Page 46)"

There is also a marriage record of DANIEL ESTEP marrying a SARAH TRIPLETT 7 January 1822 in Ashe Co, North Carolina. DANIEL TRIPLETT was the bondsman. The JESSIE TRIPLETT that married SUSANNAH HODGES had a son named DANIEL.

I connect to the Estep family and would like to know which Jesse Triplett this could be.

Thank you for your help.

Debra

Thomas W. Triplett sentenced to jail at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 19 November 1903, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

TRIPLETT GETS FIVE YEARS

Pleaded Guilty to Eleven Indictments for Forgery.

Vinita: Thomas W. Triplett was placed in the United States jail here awaiting the departure of the famous Katy prison car known as Ten Spot for Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Triplett pleaded guilty to eleven indictments for forgery and uttering forged papers in the United States court at Tahlequah. He was brought before Judge Gill, and many pleas of mercy were made and Judge Gill finally gave him five years in the United States penitentiary at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The sentence was for five years in each of the eleven cases, but the terms are to run concurrent, which means five years and then Triplett is free.

The offenses with Triplett is charged are forgeries in connection with the work in the Cherokee Auditor's office as a result of which the Cherokees lost $194,000.

Triplett's friends plead for mercy for him on the theory that he had tuberculosis, and they urged that if he was given a long term he could not survive it. Triplett is almost a full-blood. He was able to be at work when his bondsmen surrendered him to the prison officials. He has been working for some time as translator for the Cherokee Advocate.

I question the 1905 death date I have for Wm R Triplett due to 1900 census where only his wife & 2 children were listed. Where was Wm Riley Triplett if he was still alive?
Due to computer crash in Nov/03, lost quite a lot of my genealogy. While I've generations of Triplett genealogy, none at all that tells me who children of William Riley (1844-1905) and Sarah Elizabeth Maize Triplett (1847-1938) married, when, where & etc. Sarah & Wm's children's names were, Green Sherman Triplett (1864), John Madison Triplett (1867), & Mary Clarindo Triplette (1869). Any help with this would be wonderful. Thanking you, Toni Maize

Hello, I haven't read any thing on here, about this Triplett, so I'm going to ask about him.
In the 1828, journal of Elisha Mitchell, he mentions meeting a Tommy Triplett deep in the Northern NC, Mountains. I've tried to find out where he came from, but all I could find was that he was the son of Ozroe Triplett, but there is nothing that I can find in ref. to this person. Have any of you, ever heard of this family? I wondering if he could be my Thomas Triplett. Thanks, Dory

IDA LOUISE TRIPLETT JARVIS- Greenville, Madison, FL

Ida was born around 1867-1872 in Greenville, FL. She married John S. C. Jarvis on 20 Sep 1886. They had 4 children: Audie Benton, Ida Rosa, Thomas Coplin, and a baby girl that was born and died in 1899. Ida and John then divorced in Feb of 1900.
I believe she was living alone in Greenville in 1900 as Ida Jarvis. She's listed as a widow with no children. However, I think its listed that way because the children were not living with her and she may have been shunned if it was publicly known that she was divorced and had left her children with their father. My problem is, I dont know where she went after that.

Besides the 1880 Census in FL, does anyone have any information on David TRIPLETT who married Elizabeth HINGSON? They had at least 4 children, Susan, Frances "Fannie", Sherman, and Ida Louise.
David had a sister Nancy, who had a daughter named Elizabeth HOLTON. I believe their daughters, Ida Louise TRIPLETT and Elizabeth HOLTON married the same man, John Singleton Coplin JARVIS but dont have anything solid yet. Help!

Who are the real parents of NANCY TRIPLETT who married JOHN HOLTON? I have been given by several people different family trees that include her but with different parents. They are ELI TRIPLETT and ELIZABETH CONE, JOHN TRIPLETT and ELIZABETH, and THOMAS TRIPLETT and ELIZABETH TRIPLETT (1st cousins too). I have also been told that Nancy had 2 husbands, JOHN FRANKLIN HOLTON and WILLIAM THOMAS HOLTON. Depending on what is given for Elizabeth decides who the father is; however, its only a years difference. Does anyone have any solid proof of any of these trees?

James Triplett (2 of them)

Good afternoon, to any or all of you! I'm having such a problem with the 2 possible families for James Triplett b. abt. 1735-37. As far as I can figure, John Triplett and his wife Catherine Hore Triplett, had a son named James who (maybe) married Jane Pierce. and they had sons James, a Charles, Nathaniel, and according to some (no proof) researchers, also a Thomas b. 1765. Now, the other family claiming James is William (the above John's brother) and Elizabeth Hedgeman Triplett. He also was supposed to have married Jane Pierce. (both Sarah Janes, and in some cases Sarah Jane Catlett, and some with Pierce added) I am personally, very baffled about this. IF anyone has a clue as to which one is the right Family, I'd surely like to hear about it! Thanks, and take care, Dorothy (new email address: dorytriplett@hotmail.com)

William Triplett (1763-1846) Desc. in Illinois-1830 to Present

I would like to correspond with any descendants of Wm. and Nancy (Ferguson) Triplett , who moved from Wilkes Co. NC to Adair Co. KY around 1800-1810. William and his sons are listed in the 1820 Adair Co. KY census. By 1830, his sons, Micajah and Lewis Triplett, are in Pike Co. IL, Thomas (m. Mary Moore-my direct line) and John (later moved to Sullivan Co. MO), are in Russell Co. KY along with their father, and both Wiliam and Joel are living in Tennessee. By 1840, Joel Triplett, so of Thomas and Mary (Moore) Triplett (Mary is deceased) of Russell Co. KY, and Lucinda Goldwain are married and living in Pike Co. IL, too.

I have quite a bit of information on most of William and Nancy Triplett's children and descendants and would like to share and compare notes with others researching these lines. You may e-mail me directly at nmferoe@aol.com.

Looking for any info on parents/place/date of birth of Milda Triplett, married Thomas Holland and lived in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She would have been born in the 1870's or 1880's in Texas I think. They had 5 children (Hollands): Gladys, Cecil, Vera, Hewland, and Thelma.

Thomas Lee Triplett (1863 - 1950)

I am curious if anyone knows any facts about Thomas Lee Triplett. He was my great-great Grandfather, so I never had the pleasure of meeting him.
He was born in Jan. of 1863, in Shelby County, Missouri.
I know that before he became a Christian, he was a wild sort of person.
He married later in life (age 35), in 1900, in Bozeman, Montana, to the girl who was to become my great great Grandmother. Her name was Mary Elizabeth Deal. They eventually had 9 children.
He later became a minister who preached in houses and "small" church services, rather than official church buildings. :-)
Thomas "Lee" and Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" had three little girls die from scarlet fever they caught from traveling on the trains. I have heard that Lee had a lot to do with the railways getting the trains fumigated after each run, but I don't know if that's true or not.
He died in Washington state in 1950, at the age of 85.

Thomas Triplett's parents' names were Leonidas(appox. 1805 - 1876) and Roberta Triplett (1842-1863). His mother died at the young age of 21 in a mill accident, when Thomas was very young (months old). His father was married 6 times, being widowed 5 times and had 9 children (at least, as far as recorded). Thomas was the youngest.

I would appreciate it if anyone could give me anymore information regarding this man.

I thank you for reading this.
N.

According to 1880 and 1900 Census Records both parents were born in VA.
Family records (oral) include that John b.1837/38 left the State of VA to avoid the CW draft.

There seems to be a lot of confusion over the identity of the FATHER of Sarah Triplett (b.1795 Kentucky - d. 1858 Missouri), who married James Cloe (b. 1796 Virginia - d.1862 Missouri).

Some have him as JAMES CATLETT TRIPLETT (b.1772 Fauquier Co., VA - d.Feb. 1828 Calumet Township, Pike Co., MO or Bourbon Co., KY), the son of William Triplett (b. 1719 culpeper Co., VA - d.1822 Fauquier Co., VA) by his wife Mary Ann Miller or by his mistress Sarah Catlett.

Others have him as JAMES TRIPLETT (b.1776 Culpeper Co, VA - d.1847 Pike Co., MO).

Everyone says James Triplett was married to Nancy Oliver / Mary Nancy Oliver, and that Sarah Triplett who married James Cloe was his daughter.

My question is "DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ACTUAL DOCUMENTATION THAT WOULD PROVE JAMES TRIPLETT'S actual dates of birth and death, and where those took place?

Thank you !!!!

~Wanda~

Jasper N. Triplett - AR & MO

Is there anyone monitoring this list that is searching the Jasper N. Triplett (born ca 1827-31) line? Jasper Triplett was married at least twice and by his first (?) marriage had two sons Joseph B. and George W. Jasper then married Sarah A. Edwards (born 1842) who had also been previously married. Her maiden name was Ball and she had been married to Robert H. Edwards (born 1828). They had six children: William Alexander Edwards, Nancy Jane Edwards, James Thomas Edwards, Francis Marian Edwards, Martha Ann Edwards and Sarah Elizabeth Edwards. After Jasper and Sarah were married they had two children: Charles Newton Triplett and Eddy Albert Triplett. Apparently the Tripletts and Edwards moved from the Sharp County Arkansas vicinity to Webster County, Missouri and eventually settled in Stoddard County, Missouri. I don't have a whole lot of information on this line, but I am willing to share.
