Re: Tritts of Lee County, VA

Do you know anything about the Zion Trett in the 1880 cenus in Rocky Station, Lee Co, VA? He is 38 years old and his wife is Sarah, age 34. They are also in the 1870 census, same place, but living with Jacob and Elizabeth Trett. The reason I ask is that I may be related to his wife Sarah, but I'm not sure if she is the right one or not. I think she is Sarah Hensley who was born c1845 in Yancy Co, NC but moved on to Clay Co, KY before 1850 with her father Levi Hensley. She is not with her parents in 1870 but there is a marriage record for a Sarah Hensley and Zion Trett, 20 Jul 1864, in Clay Co, KY. In the 1880 Lee Co census Sarah gives her birth place as KY, although in 1870 she gives it as Lee Co VA. There was a Zion Trett in the Virginia Militia during the Civil War, could he have fought in Kentucky where he met Sarah Hensley? I can't find this couple in Kentucky in 1870, so I thought maybe they might be this Zion and Sarah in Virginia.

Laura E. Tritt b. 1882 Montana

I'm looking for any information on a Laura E. Tritt b. 1882 in Montana. She was married to a Archie Northrup and had two known sons: Clinton W. Northrup and John H. Northrup. Clinton Northrup was in the Navy and lost his life at Sea. Laura 2nd married Harry Harold Cousins. Nothing else is known about her. She is on the 1900 and 1910 census records with Archie Northrup. Her first child with Mr. Cousins was born abt 1818 (Harry Deloss Cousins) so they were married between 1910 and 1918 but not known exactly. Harry Cousins is last found on the 1910 Washington Census record living with his parents William and Ida Jones Cousins. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

Chastity

Cynthia, Samuel Tritt is my 3rd great grandfather. No documented proof has been found, to my knowledge, to connect this Samuel to the Tritts from Switzerland who immigrated to PA in 1739. I expect that somewhere down the line, my Tritts may have come from Switzerland, also, and hope proof will someday be found. It is still not known who Samuel's father was or where Samuel came from prior to Greenbrier County.

What has been proven, however, is that Samuel's middle name was NOT Cambridge. When transcribing original courthouse records from Greenbrier County, VA (now WVA), someone made an error which got printed in a resource book. As both my great grandfather and my great, great grandfather were named Samuel and each had no middle name, I believe that my 3rd great grandfather also did not have a middle name.
Dear Roberta,
I am a member of the "Tritt Family Research Group" and am in charge of compiling and researching info on descendants of John Paul Tritt. I have some family group sheets you sent to us and noticed your questions on Rootsweb. Some of the info in the source notes lists you as the source. I do however have more on William Tritt that was researched by my cousin Harold Hegyessy and also by Dave and Judy Tritt. I will be glad to send you the info I have. Also, I have all genealogy going back from William and Cornelia. I am trying to get up to date on his descendents, so hopefully we can exchange info and your up to date family can be included in the forthcoming book. I will wait to hear from you.
Thanks, Mercedes Woolsey

Ronald Steele-- I am so excited to find your entry. I have so much info for you!!! I am sure you can fill in more recent info for me. I am a member of an organization called "Tritt Family Research." We have published one volume of Genealogy on the Tritt/Tritten Family from abt 1562 (Switzerland) up to the time that two brothers came to America. One of the brothers, John Paul Tritt is my great great grandfather. The volume is available through the Tritt Family Research Organization. We are currently putting together a volume which will be on John Paul Tritt's line to the present time, which includes your family. I have sent the info I have gathered to the editor, but it is not too late to include your family that we don't have info on. So I would love to have you respond to my e-mail. The info I have is Benjamin Franklin Tritt (who changed his name to Franklin Benjamin Tritt) b. 20 Aug 1869 in Columbiana Co., Ohio and d. 14 Dec 1950 in Lisbon, Columbiana Co., Ohio. On 21 Oct 1895 in Pasadena, Florida he md. Maria Winona Pixton, who was born 2 Dec 1874 in Carling, Canada and died 15 Jun 1953 in Lisbon, Columbiana Co. Ohio. They had 6 children: Bertha Mae, Frank Barton, Howard H., Walter A., Raymond, and Edith Tritt. Raymond was born 21 Jun 1908 in Ohio and died Feb 1973 in Hubbard, Trumbull Co., Ohio. He married Anna Steele. That is all the info I have on them. Please get in touch with me and I will be glad to share everything I have with you and let you know about the forthcoming book we are publishing. I would very much like to update our info with what you know about your family to the present.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I don't know if this is your line or if it'll even help but I know of a Tritt family in Jasper Co. that might be related somehow. Joseph Tritt (b. c1795 MD) and his wife Sarah Snider (b. c1816 VA) were the parents of Laura Tritt (b. April 1850 in Champaign Co., OH.)

Laura married Charles Otho Browning in Jasper Co IL on 8 Aug 1878 and the couple is found living in Fox Twn. in Jasper Co in 1880.

I'm thinking that perhaps -- perhaps -- your John may be a grandson of Joseph Tritt -- a son of one of his sons? I'm just guessing here but that might help you in some way.

I just replied to Karen Minor re: John Randolph Tritt. You might want to look at my reply to her posting.Your Laura Tritt was my great grandfathers sister. He was Joseph Martin Tritt, son of Joseph Tritt and Sarah Snyder. If there is anything I can answer for you re: my side of the family please inquire. I would also like some info on Laura Belle Tritt. I know she died in 1912. I know very little about Charles Browning and their children.
Thanks in advance.

John Randolph Tritt was my grandfather's brother. They were both born in West Liberty, Jasper, Ill. My grandfather's name was William Henry Tritt. Their siblings were Carrie Mae, Charles Robert, Addie Belle, Thomas Gibson, Emily E., Carl, Eugene, and Joseph Leroy. All children of Joseph Martin Tritt and Mary Elizabeth Gibson.. The last 4 were born in Nebraska.
Joseph Martin and Mary Elizabeth Gibson were both born in Ohio They were married in Jasper County, Ill.
John Randolph was born 11/8/1878 and died 9/22/1953. Laura Carolyn Vedene was born 8/6/1886 and died 3/5/1957. Both died in Nebraska.
My mother always called him Uncle Randoph. You may wish to search under that name alone.
Half of Joseph Martin's family came back to Illinois and settled in St.Clair County, where my mother was born.

I'm sure I speak for all my cousins from Lee County, VA. who are researching their Tritt family in saying that we would like to know how you connect a Peter Tritt as the husband of Elizabeth Hoover Tritt and what your sources are, so that we might verify those sources for ourselves. Look forward to your reply on the board.

Try www.trit.org/ The Tritt Family History book can be ordered here. Even though I don't believe my Tritts are connected to this family, I have learned a lot about the Tritt name, etc. from this book. Hope this will help.

Margie, I just checked the web site again to be sure it worked since it has been awhile since I had been there. It still works. I used AltaVista to search. There really isn't much on the web page. A sample newsletter, message from TFR president, and a place to order material. It is used mainly I think to sell their book. At any rate, try a major search engine. Good luck.

Tritts of Lee County, VA

I am a descendant of the Tritts of Lee County, VA. through Samuel Tritt, son of Elizabeth Hoover. There is no proof that her husband's name was Peter. There is, however, indication that her husband's name was Samuel, who died between 1799 and 1805. There was a son, Peter, and it appears that Elizabeth Hoover's father's name was Peter. The name may have been spelled "Howver." I believe that there has long been much confusion about these Peter Tritts. I have considerable information about the Lee County Tritts and their descendants.

Unable to help with Sarah Louise (Tritt) information. However,Peter was a brother to my Great G,Grandfather JohnTritt. A decendant of Peter ,John Tritt and wife Margo, reside in Walton Indiana,on the a Tritt Homestead in Vigo County.I have much info and will exchange gladly. For more accurate information you might try a internet search for John and Margo Tritt. Burgoine(unsure of my spelling)was a veteran of the Civill War having served in the State of Missouri.
I have what is believed to be a complete list of the siblings of Peter and no Sara Louise (or similiar name ) is listed.

If this info seems valuable reply to me and I will try to help.

I am trying to find a connection between Sarah Louisa (TRITT) HUSSONG b. abt 1827 in VA with Burguoine TRITT b. 25 Jan. 1820 in Lee Co. VA to parents Peter TRITT and Sarah (Boyer) TRITT. (from resource: HISTORY OF VIGO AND PARKE COUNTIES ...H.W. Beckwith - 1880) The reason I'm digging for a connection is that Sarah and Burguoine are neighbors residing in Vigo Co. IN (1860 census.) I am thinking she might be his sister. I am hoping someone out there has more information about this Peter and Sarah Tritt - specifically names of children they would have had during the 1820's. Thank you for any help.
Susan

Carline - Thank you for confirming my suspicion on this relative, and also for such a prompt reply. Sarah Tritt Hussong is my 4th great-grandmother over on my maternal side of the family. Since she is one of the female lines, I haven't done a lot of research yet. (I started with mostly the male lines which were easier to trace.) It is so exciting to find someone who has done so much research. Any information you'd be willing to share would be very much appreciated. I've only had a little bit of experience record hunting in Virginia, and it seems to be quite frustrating with some of the colonial stuff. Please let me know if there is any information you want from me or any way I can help you.
Thanks, Susan
