Guambaby,

Lola Norris Veazey that married Ozro Troboy was my great grandmother. Unfortunately, I do not know the date of their marriage. Her first husband, Marvin Veazey died in 1929 so after then. Her parents were James E. Norris and Eldorado Hair Norris. I believe they came from Alabama (but not certain). If you would like more info, please contact me.
The Oklahoman
07-17-1906
p. 3 / 10

A FREAK DEATH

FARMER IS KILLED ON FRONT PORCH WITH DAUGHTER
SITTING IN HIS LAP

FIVE OTHERS WERE STUNNED

Child Was Slightly Burned From the Current
Which Passed Through Her Father's Body

SHAWNEE, Okla., July 16 -

Newton Troboy, aged 27, a farmer residing nine miles
east of here in the Seminole district, was instantly
killed by lightening while sitting on his front plaza
holding his 4-year-old daughter and reading.

The child was frightfully burned and shocked but she
will recover.

Five other persons were seriously hurt by the shock,
including this child, but all are now able to be around.

Troboy's wife and three children and a young farm hand
were all more or less shocked.

There had been scarcely any lightening before the fatal
stroke and Troboy, who had been at work all day, went
to the porch to sit in the cool breeze.

His little daughter climbed onto his lap and when the flash
came, it evidently passed through her body also, for
there were places beneath her body where her father's
clothing was burned, though the bolt left no connecting
marks with the place where it struck his head.

***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***

Correcting again... come to find out, the folks I was tracking were not the correct couple. Elisha B. Garner did marry a Lola, and I have no idea what her maiden name was. Then there was Joseph Elisha Garner and HE married Lola Veazey, daughter of Jesse J. and Priscilla Seale Veazey. Sorry for the confusion... believe me, it's not intentional!!

Do you know when Ozro married Lola Veazey? Do you know anything else about her? I have a Lola Veazey b. Aug 1890 in TX (dau. of Priscilla SEALE and Jesse J. VEAZEY, according to the census) as the third wife of Elisha Blackwell GARNER. They lived in Brownwood, TX during the 1920 and 1930 census. Lola's not with her parents in 1910 census, and I have yet to locate her.
Thank you for any help or guidance you can offer!

Newt (Newton) Troboy was my husband's ggf. According to his family, Newt was born 3-1878 in Giles, TN, and died 7-10-1906. He married Bonnie Banks (more data available) on 6-25-1899 and had 3 children: Arlin Plenney Troboy (b 6-29-1900, d 5-1962), Iona Valentine Troboy Radican (b 10-25-1902, d 5-24-1990), and John Lee Troboy (b 9-29-1904, d 7-22-2000, my husband's gf).

I've been collecting data on Newt's descendants and am updating from a trip to Arkansas this summer. As soon as I'm finished, I'd be glad to share via e-mail. I can be reached at TroboyK@optonline.net
Oscar Trobaugh was my great uncle. Ozro was my great grandfather. At the first opportunity I have I will check Giles County records as I live in Tennessee not far from Pulaski and the library in our town has some of the records from Giles County. The information you have about siblings is correct according to the information I have. Ozro changed the spelling of his last name to Troboy at some point. Of course I have more information on Ozro than I do Oscar but I visted in Uncle Oscar home when I was a little girl and remember him. If I am able to get any other information I will try to let you know.

Brenda, It's Jean Carol. Need to correct some info. Ozro was Granny's Dad. His first wife's name was Maggie(Margaret)Moore Martin, second wife Ellen Goggans, third wife Lola Veazy. He was born 0ct 1, 1883.Children by 1st wife...Almeda, Minnie Lee, Della and Holland. Maggie died in about 1908 or 1909 after birth of Holland. Holland died at approximately 6 weeks of age. Maggie is buried in Brownwood, Texas. Ozro moved to Emblem, Tx after Maggie's death and Holland may be buried there. Children by 2nd wife, William (Billy), Garland (Shorty) and Norris. I'm looking for more info too and if I find anything I'll let you know. Ozro was supposed to have moved from Giles County Tennessee and I am going to check census records for there. He had 2 brothers, Oscar and Newt. Ozro changed his name spelling to Troboy but Oscar kept the spelling of Trobaugh. You may have all of this. Send me your email address.
