I had a great uncle Rex Troop, married to Anna Redmer. Resided in Drums, Pa 18255. They had two adopted sons. I do not know where the boys ended up. He was a photographer and landscape painter. Worked for Cosgrove Studios & the"Farmers" dairy (Hazleton, Pa, 18201)for many years. He retired to New Mexico in the early 70's. He is buried next to his wife Anna in Drums.

I am responding to your query from 2006 regarding TROOP family from Illinois. My husband's father was Robert Troop son of Harry and Lena Troop, Rochelle, Ill. His aunt, Josephine, has completed the family genealogy, but I don't see a Charles or Ella Troop. This is my husband' line.

Henry Troop - Harriett Eschelman
Harry Troop - Lena Busse
Robert Troop - Connie Caron
Rick Troop - Penny Carlson

Robert's brother was Harry.
Penny Troop

Hi Brenda. I knew of a Troop family living within 10 miles of Peoria. They were about a block from my address in Creve Coeur, Tazewell County, IL. I am 76 years old. One of the Troop boys of my age was Luther. This was in the 1940's. Luther had several brothers and sisters. The Troop family had predominantly red hair. I lost contact with Luther when I entered military service. Luther had a great desire to sing opera.
Re: Troop and Church families

Meredith, I just found your post from Feb. 2006.
My husband has the same ancestry as yours from the Troop/Church connection down to Joseph Henry Troop and Hannah Bent. His line then continues through Emma Jane Troop, John Rawlins sister. Emma Jane married James Edward Osinger in Granville Center, NS in 1874. One of their sons, Charles Frederick Ossinger, married Sarah Catherine Fraser from McPhersons Mills, NS; they were married in Boston, Massachusetts in 1904 where they lived for the rest of their lives. One of their daughters, Sadie Elinor Ossinger, married Arthur Gregory Lazarus in 1932. These were my husband's parents. I have no further information regarding the lineage before Valentine Troop and Catherine Church. We visited Nova Scotia several years ago and found some confirming records. There was a "family story" about the name originally being "von Troop", but no evidence has yet come to my attention.
TROOP family from Iroquois, Illinois

I am looking for the family of Harry Troop from Watseka, Iroquios, Ill. Harry had a sister named Mabel or Gladys and was the son of Charles and Ella Troop who moved to Ill. somtime between 1900 and 1910. I am related to Charles uncle, William Troop, of Reading, PA and would love to connect with someone from the family who might have old family photos. I have some that I would be interested in sharing and comparing. I THINK he married a Hazel or Lena and had a daughter Josephine, but I am not 100% sure. In the 1930 census, there is a Harry and Lena with daughter, Josephine, son Robert, and son Harry J. The family lived in Ogle, Illinois.

Moyer...William's daughter, Ellen, married him and had two sons, Chester and Howard Moyer (both deceased now). I am trying to identify people in some old photos that I have and would be happy to share/compare pictures.

I have a "found" picture of a man, bought at an Antique Mall. On the back it says: Leslie Troop and below that "Hanover". The clothing probably dates it around 1890s or early 1900s (but not sure!). I found one match on census records for a Leslie Troup and wife Hester in Nebraska, I believe on the 1920 census. If you have any further info, please email me. I am assuming his name is not Lelie Troop Hanover, but is Leslie Troop and maybe Hanover was the city or college. Thanks.

I know of a John W. Troop who lived in Peoria IL. He married a Mary, then divorced and married Annabelle Kidd in 1981. John and Mary were unable to have any children of their own so they adopted a boy of 6 months named Gary James. John died in March of 1998. Mary passed away some time in the early 80's. Not sure of exact date. The son who was adopted was my husband's brother and we have been looking for him for two years. If you have any information regarding him I would sincerely appreciate it. Gary was born in Aug. of 1952. Thanks!

Troop Genealogy Valentine Troop

I read with much interest you comments in this and several follow-on notes. I too have a patriach VALENTINE TROOP who immigrated from the Americas to Annapolis Royal in the late 1700's. Genealogy summaries usually identify his wife as Catherine Church -- a descendant of the Mayflower passenger Richard Warren by way of Benjamin Church -- a noted colonial Ranger, Indian French fighter. I would be most interested in any detail you have that corresponds with any of these facts.

You mentioned a Troop flag. I would also be most interested in a copy or direction to the same.

jc

Hi Tammy,
This is my third attempt. Second time did a trial run. First time my email was not accepted?? Anyway, Mary Elizabeth Troop is buried at Bangor Cemetery in Churchtown PA. Her dates are: 4-13-1770 to 7-24-1855. She is the second wife of John Leonard Garman with his first wife's name being Elizabeth Haisner. In so far as how we might be related, the second child of John Leonard & Mary Elizabeth Troop Garman, Philip (1808-1891) would be my 2Gfather. Philip & Elizabeth Donehower Garman had a daughter (one of eleven children) by the name of Leah Louisa who married Christian Shirk (1838-1926). They had a son John Franklin Shirk who is my grandfather. Hope this might help you in some way. Keep in touch. Joyce

Hi Joyce!

John Leonard Garman is my 5G Uncle. All I know about Mary Elizabeth is that she was born about 1765 in PA and married to John Leonard.

According to my information, John Leonard Garman lived his entire live in the Ephrata, Earl Twp., Lancaster Co., PA area. There are many memebers of the GARMAN family burried in the Bergstrasse Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ephrata. I have pictures of all of the tombstones I could find, however there are MANY older ones that have decayed to the point of being unreadable.

I would be interested in sharing with you any information that would be of help. Are we related?

Tammy
Antqcolctr@aol.com

My ggrandmother was Mary E Garman, she had a daughter she named Amanda Elizabeth. Each generation of our family uses the name or middle name of the grandmother for the granddaughter's name. I wonder if Mary Elizabeth is somehow related to me. All the info I have is that my ggrandmother was born about 1892 on April 24. She was sent as a young child to live with a family in a small town called Mauch Chunk, PA in Carbon County. She was baptized but I can't locate any records via the net. I guess I need to go to the town's court house. If you have any info that might relate Mary Elizabeth to Mary E. please share it with me so I can fill in the missing spaces. Thanks, Alice M.
