FYI:
TROSTEL/TROSTLE GATHERING - October 21-24, 2004 - Gettysburg, PA.
To celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the arrival of Abraham Trostel (1740-1819) in Philadelphia in October, 1754, Trostel/Trostle family members will be gathering from all over the country. Attend for all or any part of the scheduled events. Registration required.
Beginning Thursday afternoon with an informal time and supper together, we have a leisurely but full 3 1/2 - day schedule.
Friday morning, beginning at 8:30 a.m., the Trostle golf "tournament" (9-holes)on the Briarwood Golf Course ... 204 acres of the course are the immigrant Abraham's farm that he bought in Paradise Twp., York County in 1785....what better way to walk your ancestor's farm than to play a short round of golf.
For those not playing golf, a stop at the golf course/farm will be included in a Friday afternoon bus journey to a number of Trostel/Trostle homes/farms, mills, churches and cemeteries, etc. in York and Adams Counties
Friday and Saturday evenings there will be dinners with guest speakers from the Adams County Historical Society (on Trostle farms and sites in Adams County) ... and from the National Park Service Staff (a costumed dramatic presentation on life in the area during the first week of July, 1863).
On Saturday a.m. we will meet at the historic G.A.R. Building to have several presentations on Trostel/Trostle Family history and time for discussion of family history.
Saturday afternoon, we will have a private tour of the Trostle Farm and Home on the Battlefield, site of the most fierce fighting on July 2, 1863.
Sunday morning we will go to Old Holtz Schwamm Church and Graveyard where many of Abraham and Susanna Bentz Trostel's descendants are buried. There will be a presentation on the history of the Old Church ... and we will dedicate a memorial stone to our common ancestors Abraham (1740-1819) and Susanna Bentz Trostel (1751-1825). It seems appropriate that we should dedicate a memorial stone on the 250th anniversary of Abraham's arrival in America.
Our headquarters will be the Days Inn in Gettysburg where a block of rooms
has been reserved for Trostles who come from some distance and need hotel rooms. Our Hospitality Room throughout the Gathering will be the Picket's Charge room at the Days Inn.
Rooms have also been reserved at several other motels and at a bed & breakfast. (Because of Parents' Weekend at Gettysburg College, most area hotels are fully booked, so contact us for info on the ones where rooms have been reserved for our Gathering.)
We will have a hospitality room at Days Inn from Thursday afternoon, Oct. 21 thru Sunday noon, Oct. 24 at the Days Inn ... with displays of family memorabilia and a place to meet and get to know your Trostel/Trostle kin folk.
For a "Gathering" Packet and Registration Form (Registration Fee: $10 for adults 19 and older; $5 for teens 15 - 18; under 15, register names/ages, but no Fee) contact Connie Trostle ... MarConTro@aol.com ...
