Claude Trotter, Gus Jr., was my grandfather. He is burried along with his wife and youngest daughter in Alabama. He retired from the USAF as a Lt Colonel. My father Wayne Trotter and his twin sister Jane are still alive, and both live in Alabama as well. I followed in my Grandfathers footsteps and became an officer in the Marine Corps. Yes, I do have some information on this family, but never determined the parents of William Griffin Trotter. There are a few of them about, so presume they all came from the original pair many years ago (whoever they may be).

Callie Trotter renamed herself Rhae. (sorry about the confusion with Lou) Callie / Rhae married 3 times and died in California in 1994 with surname HOCKEMA. I have been in touch with this side of the family.

I saw your posting about Melvin TROTTER and Mattie ELROD and realized that we are working on the same family. I just finished up on Melvin's grandson, Rudy Ashton LANE's Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) application. He is going in on Melvin's wife, Mary Lucille JONES's ancestor, Charles Grigsby Calvert JONES. But I was always curious about Melvin's parents, and they have been very hard to track down, as you well know.

On your Rootsweb posting (11 Jan 2009) you state that Callie May TROTTER "changed it to Rhae somewhere along the line" .

On your GenForum posting (21 Jan 2009) you state Lou R. BOWLING is "also called Rhae, born 1915, real surname TROTTER"

So, my question is, which of Mattie ELROD's daughters was called Rhae - Callie or Lou? Do you have any of the BOWLING or TROTTER children's birth records? Also, do you know the death dates for William Griffin TROTTER, Mattie ELROD or Marion BOWLING ?

My Great Grandfather was Brassfield Trotter, born in March 1848 in Mississippi. My Grandfather Willie Trotter, born March 14 in 1879 in Vossburg Mississippi, was one of 14 children to Brassfield and his first wife Jane Milsap, born in May 1952. James Lynch Trotter was one of the 14 siblings.

Brassfield had a brother named Anderson Trotter, born 1852, who was married to a lady named Henrietta.

Hello, i live in Sydney ,Australia. I am a descendant of Thomas duncan trotter who married Maryanne Mclennan.His father also was a Thomas Trotter born 1822-1884 married to Isabella Mccallum.Thomas was one of many sons born to Thomas trotter and Mary Tilston? i believe of Ayrshire Scotland. I believe they immigrated to Australia in the late 1800S. Thomas duncan trotter had a large family many who settled in the Taree area north of Newcastle ,Australia.
If you think we are related would love to correspond to find out.Many years ago we had very limited contact with english? relatives but dont know who. I am married ,48 years old mother ,wife (to an Italian).

I saw your message about Collie May TROTTER and realised you are from the family I am researching for my husband's cousin. Her real name was Callie, but she changed it to Rhae somewhere along the line. I have just found her death. (details below). Her mother was Mattie Elrod and her father was William Griffin Trotter. She had 2 full siblings - Melvin Trotter born 1908 Georgia and Lou R Trotter born abt 1915. We don't think William and Mattie were married as Mattie had been previously married to Marion Bowling.

Anyway, my connection (through my husband) is Melvin Trotter who settled in Colonial Beach Virginia. He died a few years ago aged in his 90s. I was told Callie was originally married to a Horace GILBERT (found her in 1930 in Greenville South Carolina as a married 17yr old with a 1 year old son, Rufus C Gilbert. I was told she married a BUTTERFIELD and lived in Illinois for a while and then lived in California.

Would love to make contact and learn more about your side of the family.

I am very interesting in learning more about a COl. William B. Trotter. I am not sure if this infomration will match but he married Mary Frances Lewis TERRILL who was born about 1810. She died in Quitman, , Mississippi according to census records. Col. William B. Trotter was born about 1812. He had a son by the name of Henry Trotter who then married a Salina Trotter. I have a death certificate for Hugh Trotter Cole born 20 NOV 1857 in Scotland. Father was William Trotter Cole, Mother was Elizabeth Gilmore, both born in Scotland. Hugh Trotter Cole died 14 JUN 1957 in Uhrichsville, Ohio. He was married to Elizabeth Clark born 26 MAY 1861 in Thornley Durham England. Father was William Clark of England. Mother was Elizabeth unk of England. Hugh and Elizabeth are buried in Union Cemetery, Uhrichsville, OH

Hugh Trotter's daughter Margaret married John Wesley Dooley. They had 3 children...Gladys, Pauline, and John Jr. In turn, Gladys marries Oscar Hammond Hines and that is my connection. Margaret remarried after John W. Dooley dies but she would have been my great-grandmother, making Hugh my gr-great grandfather.

I am looking for any descendents of Dr Robert de Bruce Trotter (c1834-1907) and Helen Finlay Baird (c1854-1917). They had several children including Thomas Baird Trotter whose descendents lived in Hobart, Tasmania; Dr Robert Samuel Trotter who died in Sydney, Australia; Dr Alexander Trotter who married Annie Smith Mearns; and I believe Robert Maxwell Trotter of London (although he may be a cousin). There is an item that Robert de Bruce Trotter had in his possession in the 1890s that I hope one of his descendents may have inherited that I would love to illustrate in a book I am writing. I'm picking up the search I started a few years ago. My Trotter line is from the Clarksville, Tennessee area (Cunningham, Southside, Salem, Clarksville.....). I have confirmation that my grandfather's (Thomas Richard Trotter)parents were Welborn and Iva Trotter.

I would love to find photos! There were several kids in his family: Walter, Garner, Catherine, Sarah, Bernice, Tommie (female), Thomas and others that I'm looking into.

My gg-grandfather William B. Trotter was born Nov. 7, 1815 in Roxboro, Person Co., NC, son of James and Mary "Polly" Draper Trotter. The family relocated to Fayette Co., TN, where W.B. married Frances Elizabeth Jordan. Their children were Mary V., Zachary T., and James Thomas. W. B. died in Fayette Co. in 1852 and Frances/Fanny (I believe) marked Zachary Shaw. The obituary of James Thomas states that he moved to Mississippi at an early age but I have not found him prior to his appearance in Panola County in the 1870s. However I have found Zachary and Frances Shaw with a youngster named William B. Trotter on the census and believe it possible she was pregnant when her husband died and named the resulting son after him. I am hoping to find confirmation of this.
