I've been gone to a job. So couldn't wait to get back to see if I had a response from you. Sorry to say that we must not be talking about the same line of Troupe's. And no need for you to apologize at all. I was sure wishing we would be related down the line. Especially since I have all these letters I want to share. I really hope your search is successful. I do really understand the brick walls we can run into. I'm also looking into Native American blood info, and there are too many brick walls. Good luck! Y.Robinett

Hi petnanny173:
First, I just want to make sure that we are talking about the same Troupe Family. My Troupe relatives are of African American decent. I do apologize, I should have stated that in the initial post. I would be extremely interested to learn any information you have regarding the Troupe Family as it relates to my relatives.

Thank you,
T

Hello! Amos Troupe is the one who lived in Pine Bluff, AR. His wife's name was Carrie M. Sloan Troupe, and they had a son named Charles Adna Troupe. Amos was a brother to my G. Grandmother. Amos was a doctor in Pine Bluff. You'll be very interested to know that right now I'm going thru some letters from the 1800's written from Amos to his Sister Sophronia Troupe Beuchat. I'm transcribing them, because some are very hard to read. I want to get them published or make them available to family members. They are very interesting, and tells a story about that family. There are probably atleast 100 letters. Write me, I'd be interested to know how you fit in. Y. Robinett I also have some photos too.

Troupe Slavery Information Needed...HELP!!!!!!

To my knowledge it was customary for slaves to take on the surnames of their owners, even upon freedom. I am a decendent of General Grant Troupe. To my knowlege he was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi on 13 Apr 1865. He married Recy Billups born in Alabama about 1862.

Together they had two sons, his oldest, carried his father's name.

To say I have my work cut out for me is an understatement. My family has tried and tried and tried again to find out more information on him and his family. I am now turning to those whose ancestors with the Troupe name owned slaves...any chance along the way that you came across any information regarding their slaves?

Any help, information, direction would be greatly appreciated!!

TROUPE has DNA match with STRAUB/STROUP

It has long been suspected that there may have been conversions between TRAUB / TROUP and STRAUB / STROUP. We now have proof of such a conversion, in at least one case.

DNA testing has revealed a tight genetic match between a TROUPE descendant of John Peter TRAUB / TROUP of Perry Twp., Snyder Co., PA:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Tr/TroupJohnPeter-AnnaMariaH...

and a STRAUB descendant of Jonathan Francis STRAUB / STROUP of Chapman Twp., Snyder Co., PA:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Stra/StraubJonathanFrancis-C...

Their match is at the level of 37 markers out of 37, indicating they have a 99% probability of having a common ancestor within nine generations:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/DNA/Straub/StraubDNA-results-HgI...

This match has prompted me to include TRAUB / TROUB / TROUP / TROUPE under the umbrella of the STRAUB DNA Project:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/DNA/Straub/StraubDNA.shtml

Test subjects for the project must be male and surnamed TRAUB / TROUB / TROUP / TROUPE or some other variation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Diana Gale Matthiesen, Administrator
STRAUB Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project

Disclaimer: I am a volunteer administrator (I'm retired, and genealogy is my hobby).
Probably not your Alonza, but I have one in my records who was born in 1851, Germantown, Montgomery County, OH. He died 17 Aug 1922 in Springfield, Clark County, OH. He was a pharmacist in Springfield and was called Toppy. He may have had 3 wives. He had one child Garland, that I know of. He did travel, but always returned to Springfield. Perhaps he had a child Alonza? Alonzo was a first cousin of my grandfather, Frank Howard Coblentz.
