My Great Grandfather, Anthony Trudeau, built a set of cabins. I dont remember the name of the lake. I do remember the cabins. Stayed there many times. Back then, then had outhouses. The kitchens had small, red, hand pumps in the sinks for water. The cabin we stayed at had a semi spiral staircase. I dont know a Thomas Vassar, but I did get lots of pictures. Edna Mary Wingard was Anthony's wife. She was pretty amazing too.

Julius Trudeau born 1863 Canada married to Adeline Budreau

Hi,
I'm looking for information on Julius Trudeau born 1863, Montreal and married 14 October 1884 in Newton County, Indiana to Adeline Budreau (Boudreau. There didn't seem to be a record of death in Benton County (if I am remembering correctly)so I was wondering if he actually died in the hospital in Tipppecanoe County. I would like to find out the cause of death (I remember being told that it was something like stomach cancer) and any pictures that anyone might have of him. I have a number of pictures of his wife Adeline as an older worman.
His parents were Alfred Trudeau and Philomene Bertrand
Thanks,
Margie
Hi,

My great, great grandparents were Alex(is) Trudeau and Marcelline Vaillancourt. I am a descendant of their son Alexandre Trudeau who married Suzanne Verner in papineauville around 1892. The problem is if Alex and Marcelline were married in Hull, the records were probably destroyed in the fire which took Notre Dame. All records up to 1885 are gone. I was able though to get their death records which states where they were born, but have been unable to track down their bapitsms. I will keep you posted if I find anything else out.

Both of them are buried in common ground (for poor people, no head stone)in Ottawa ON, Notre Dame Cem.

I last knew her to be about 32 years old right now and residing in Missouri someplace. I have no idea if she is married or anything else. We have the same biological father but something happened in which they lost contact. I havent been able to get any contact information. If anyone has any information about this woman, please let me know. I am also working on our father's genealogy.

Hey there ! I don't remember a whole lot about him , that was years ago and I'm getting up there in age haha . I do remember a Trudeau that's buried in Oakview Cemetary in Royal Oak Michigan near my brother who was KIA in Vietnam . I was maybe 5 at the time possibly , I'm pretty sure it was Anthony , haven't been to the graveyard in many years . I grew up in Ferndale (suburb of Detroit) and had an Aunt (Viola) Trudeau live a few streets away. I'm listed as '' living'' phew ! under Perkett (possibly a Paquet linage) at Larry's (Uncle Mike to me) site . Larry's mom was my grandmother , Larry's sister was my mother . I haven't seen Larry in quite a few years , last time was maybe salmon fishing in N. Michigan . They weren't biting that day , but I'm sure they were the day before and day after ! hahaha

I've been reading this thread and it has some pretty interesting history ! My uncle maintains a Trudeau website and has done research for many many years now , so I decided to check and see if there was a Comtois name listed in his A-Z list and there is a few there . I'm not too schooled on geneology yet that is , I believe my great grandfather was a Anthony Trudeau of Michigan . I'm sure my uncle wouldn't mind me sharing his website . Have fun and good luck :>)
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&...
One of their daughters (Margaret or Maggie) was my great grand mother, another daughter (Sarah - married name Collins - raised my grandmother). Two other daughters - one married a Trudeau and the other a Colangelo. All lived in Tupper Lake, Altamont area. Is this the connection in your tree? If it is I would love to hear from you!

i had asked my great grandmother to teach me french as a kid. she didn't know much. she learned what was used in the area. my great grandfather was ANTHONY (SR) TRUDEAU. there seems to have been a mass exidis from quebec when a major change in politics happened. they moved to michigan, and refused to speak or let the kids speak french. when asked about it, g grandpa said, "it was a long time ago, not you can do about it now" what happened in the 1800's that drove so many away and made them give up their culture?

Lionel was my grandfather. Rheaume was the maiden name of my grand mother. Yes, they lived in Waltham, I have only one memory of him. My understanding is that his father, my great grandfather, and the father of Pierre Trudeau, is that they were brothers.

Roger

Thank you very much !! Xavier Comptois/Comtois and Madeleine Trudeau had many children and one of them was my Great Great Grand Father (Xavier Comptios) Olivier Counter .He Traveled with his Brother on and Off (Phelix Comptois) Felix Counter. I don't know what happened in the Family but they both said they didn't know who thier Mother and Father were...Refused to talk about where they came from and said they didn't have any living Family. Oliviers wife is still another Mystery , She has the same story. Olivier can be found in Minnesota 1865 with a Christine Counter and children and again in 1880 with a agneta Thebaut. Both Felix and Olivier could talk to the indians and claim to have been Chippewa/French Canadian , Do you know where the indian came from ? They Both ended up in Minnesota (Blue Earth) in 1880 and both Familys have been looking for a long time.

Thanks again. We have been trying to find stuff out about the Comtois family ,But have had no luck. Our side changed thier spelling of the last Name so many times ,this is the First time I've seen the spelling Comtois used for the last name. My side used Counter ,Canter,Contwa and Comptois. The Counter name was used since 1865 as far as we can find.

Your grandpa was so right ! There are two answers to your question, a short one and a long one. Let's take the short one for now. Politics, poverty and provincialism. Years of great political turmoil combined with poor agricultural results and the shifting of the commercial and industrial decision making centers. These were the main reasons. What was going on in the early 1800's ? The American Revolution and it's consequences on the Lower Canada population - 1775-76, settlers moving West - 1790's, war with British Canada - 1812 etc. The population of Quebec was stuck in the middle of all this and trying to make a living. So about a million Quebecers left their homes to seek work in Upper Canada and the U.S. As for learning french you still have time for it.

Is Dorimène related to François-Xavier ? Maybe the Comtois family should be investigated ? Good luck !

yves trudeau

Correction on Madeleine's date of birth, born in 1814, François-Xavier born in 1809, married in Varennes Quebec Canada 30 Sept. 1834. I don't know much about their family secrets and why they refused to talk but they had family and many of them. The Chippewa territory was a long way from their homeland. I'm puzzled about that. Where did you get these stories is it running in your family ?
If I get across some info about Olivier and Felix I'll let you know.

yves trudeau

Since the french Canadians often married distant relations I am guessing this was the case here. My mother and father share a similar distant relationship on the Girard side.
I have this family from the Woonsocket, Sanborn Co., SD History book. ((I am not a memeber of the family))
It gives the history of George Trudeau,Sr., born 1860, the son of Lawrence and Louise Deter Trudeau, who where born in Fort Chambley, Lanquel Co., Quebec, Canada, and had six children. The family cam to the States and settled at Hartford, Connecticut, where the father workrd in the cotton mill until the children grew older. Then they came To SD and filed on land near Elk point and Jefferson, there the children grew up. Their daughters were Caroline and Malvina. Caroline married Edward Montagne, and Malvina married Charles LaFleur, and both families resided in Jeffferson. Their sons, were Peter, Adolph, Phil, and George. Peter moved to Custer, MT and Adolph came to Woonsocket but later moved to Swdro Valley, WA. Phil stayed in Jefferson for a time and later moved to Salix, IA

George in 1884, at the age of 24 married Alvina Montagne at St. Peter's Cathloic Church in Jefferson They had 8 children, four boys and 4 girls and two girls preceded them in death. ....... The family left Jefferson in 1907 and moved to Sanborn County.
