Hi Kathy,
Don't know if you're still looking, but I have alot of information about Robert S. & Helen's family for you. There was a fifth child, a son named Sidney Neil. He was killed by a drunk driven while out delivering newspapers on September 19th, 1937. There are lots of newspaper articles about his death. His jacket button was stuck in the grill of the guy's car. That's how they connected the driver to Sidney's death. Pretty sad story. Anyway they were living here in North Platte, Nebraska at the time. I don't know where they went after that. They were gone by 1940. Hope this helps. Let me know if you want any copies of anything.
Kaycee
andys8th@yahoo.com

I am looking for information that might help me to connect my husband's grandmother, Ellen J. Truesdale to the Truesdell Family of Hillview, New York. In the 1920 Census, Ellen J. was with husband Royal Coon and daughter Margorie. Next door was Herbert M. Truesdell, wife(can't read), daughter Thula (?) and his mother Caroline (born in Vermont about 1840). Does anyone know if this Caroline might be Caroline McDonald wife of Erskine Truesdell? If so, is Herbert M. the same person as Marvin Herbert Truesdell? Any info will help.
Thank you

TRUESDELL/TURESDALE, DONALD LEROY - Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient 2nd Nicaraguan Campaign 1932

TRUESDELL, DONALD LEROY (Name officially changed to Truesdale )

Rank and organization: Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps. Place and date: Vicinity Constancia, near Coco River, northern Nicaragua, 24 April 1932. Entered service at: South Carolina. Born: 8 August 1906, Lugoff, S.C. Citation: Cpl. Truesdale was second in command of a Guardia Nacional Patrol in active operations against armed bandit forces in the vicinity of Constancia, near Coco River, northern Nicaragua, on 24 April 1932. While the patrol was in formation on the trail searching for a bandit group with which contact had just previously been made, a rifle grenade fell from its carrier and struck a rock, igniting the detonator. Several men close to the grenade at the time were in danger. Cpl. Truesdale, who was several yards away, could easily have sought cover and safety for himself. Knowing full well the grenade would explode within 2 or 3 seconds, he rushed for the grenade, grasped it in his right hand, and attempted to throw it away from the patrol. The grenade exploded in his hand, blowing it off and inflicting serious multiple wounds about his body. Cpl. Truesdale, in taking the full shock of the explosion himself, saved the members of the patrol from loss of life or serious injury.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Lugoff, South Carolina
Cemetery: Cremated Truesdale Family Cemetery

Born: 1906 Lugoff, SC

Died: 1993

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_pz/trues...

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Leroy_Truesdale

Note: This is not my ancestry.

I have a bible that belonged to Catherine A Truesdell b. 9/20/1870. Married Stephene Walker Barlow B. 6/16/1850. Married 3/20/1870. Had children Amy 11/28/1871, Edward 5/3/1874, Jennie 10/23/1877, C. Leroy 1/31/1880, Lelia 5/26/1883, and Pearl 8/1/1886. Amy married Frank Post 6/23/1897 and Edward m. Emma Drum. The page goes on to list their dates of Death. I also a neswpaper clipping of Cathrine Barlow, with a picture of her and a picture of her great grandfather tumestone listing Jabish Truesdeoo aide-de-camp to George Washington buried in the Vetal Center NY Cemetery. It said he moved to Vestel Center, NY in 1822. It is a really long articale and I think some one out there is a relative to these people. I have lots of pictures Portraits and snap shots. A lot of them actually have names listed. I do not want to sell these items, I just want the familly to have them.

Thanks to the person who posted information on the graves of Leroy Gibbs TRUESDELL and wife Gertrude E. {FOX} TRUESDELL (that I kept in my file since 2004).

Leroy Gibbs TRUESDELL, b. 18 Dec 1852 (... aut, Erie, PA on marriage license application), d. 31 Oct 1913, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA, a son of John TRUESDELL and Margaret Jane {EDMONSON} TRUESDELL (of MI).

Gertrude E. Fidelia in 1920C Saginaw, MI, age 82, household of gr-dau & husband (VOSBURG).

Gertrude FOX and Leroy TRUESDELL m. 25 Dec 1876, Holly, Oakland, MI. Leroy indexed incorrectly as Henry TRUESDELL in 1880C, Saginaw, MI.

Birth Certificate for first child shows 31 Dec 1879, but not in 1880 household.

Children - TRUESDELL:

1.  Reve De A., b. 31 Dec 1879, m. 19 Nov 1903, Saginaw, Saginaw, MI; m. Arthur E. VOSBURG;

2.  Percy Samuels, b. 5 Nov 1881, Saginaw, MI, d. 9 Jul 1948, Columbus, Franklin, OH; m. Lulu Maria FREUDENBERGER (of PA), 1910, PA.  My children are their descendants.  E. D. and Lou were telegraphers and transferred to Tulsa about 1913 with Pure Oil Company.;
_______
Leroy TRUESDELL m. 24 Dec 1890, Eva E. HOLMES, formerly MERRICK, Holly, Oakland, MI. Eva E. HOLMES, b. 1854, Manchester, Washtenaw, MI, dau of Jonathan R. HOLMES (b. IRELAND) and Henrietta M. ? , b. NJ). Eva E. HOLMES m. Dwight M. TRUESDELL in 1900 census, Saginaw, MI.

Contributors of family tree online show Leroy TRUESDELL as father of these children, disproved by above data.
______________
Apparently Eva E. and Leroy separated / divorced as he and Gertrude are parents of three additional children. I wondered for years why the ten-year gap. The family had said the father (Leroy) left for a loaf of bread and didn't come back.

Children - TRUESDELL (cont'd.)

4. Vera, b. 1894, MI, m. 1915, PA, Ralph E.
Dell Truesdale in New Mexico--mentioned in old letter

In researching an ancestor, Dr. Lewis Kennon, of Silver City, I've come across the partial text of an old letter written by an E.E. Burlingame to his wife, Alice, dated Jan. 17, 1876, Silver City. I offer the text in case it helps any researchers out there:

"Mrs. Kennon [Mary Agnes] was buried last Saturday. She took cold while attending Mrs. Davis, during the Dr.'s absence at the fort, and an attack of pneymonia killed her; she was sick about 10 days & suffered very much. Poor Alice [daughter of Lewis and Mary Agnes Kennon] is nearly crazy & Doc I think is drinking considerably. She will have a terrible time I am afraid with all of those little children. I rather think she & Crawford [likely C.P. Crawford] are engaged. Have not sent you may papers lately because the Herald only comes out semioccasionally & then on the half sheet like this one. Old Mrs. Truesdell is very sick also Mrs. Dell Truesdell. Kennedy has gone to Arizona. Do not know how he is getting along as I do not see any of them now a days. The coach that left here a week ago was robbed by three men in Cooks Canyon near Sam Lyons place about 3 oclock in the morning. I had about $4000 worth of silver in it that was taken, but luckily did not get it all melted in time for shipment that day or they would have got $1500 more. Conway and one other passenger was aboard. They both lost their watches & what money they had. The passenger who was with Conway had..."

Here, the segment of the letter I have ends.

Hope this helps somebody!
Re: Solomon Truesdell

The KYGenWeb site for Campbell County has a really great list of the cemeteries, but I've been through and couldn't find Solomon in any of them. He lived near Alexandria in the later part of his life. (I've been looking for him because I'm tracking down all the info on him that I can get... and I'm still trying to find out where he was born and what his last name really was. My mother says he and his sons spoke Pennsylvania Dutch, which argues against Truesdell, although that's what most of his grandchildren went by, and that's what my mother's maiden name is. The spellings don't seem to settle down very clearly for the first 20 years after his arrival in Campbell County, and back in Pennsylvania the name got spelled Trusel in the 1790 census of Westmoreland County.

I tend not to get around to these message boards very frequently, so if you want more info on Solomon and his descendants, or if you have info on where Solomon was born, try emailing me at mdickeyster@gmail.com.

--Matt D.

What sort of people do you have on the line after Solomon? I've got a Solomon Truesdell born sometime in the 1740's, but we have no firm information on a birthplace. His surname may also have been Trusel or Truschel or various other things. He died in 1822 in Cambell Co, KY, and was living in Westmoreland Co in PA according to the 1790 census. The sons I have for him are John, Solomon, David, Jacob, George, Mathias, and James, but I'm not positive about how long they all might have lived. If that sounds like a fair match, let me know and I can provide you with more details and further descendants.
My great-great uncle Samuel Berrien Fish was married to Nellie Truesdell, b. abt 1842 in New York state. I am trying to locate her parents, both born in New York state, according to the 1880 census. Samuel and Nellie had two children, Charles Truesdell Fish, b. abt 1868 in Iowa, and Emily, b. abt 1878 in California. Any news of them would be appreciated.

Peter Fish
wtc48@aol.com

Seeking Marshall Truesdell mid 1800's

I have a family bible from 1851 that was orginally owned by a Marshall M. Truesdell. I believe it passed thru the hands of Huldah Scott Schooley, and was then given to her granddaughter Huldah Schooley (b. 1867). Am curious to know the connection between the Truesdells and Schooleys. I have been unable to find Marshall except in the 1850 NY census for Chemung County, NY. The Schooleys were also residents of Chemung at that time. I would appreciate any information on Marshall and would be happy to send on pix of the bible.
