Sue:
You can get these documents in The Coweta County Court House in Georgia. It would be Bonds Book B page 83, 1836, it was signed on November 15 1836
Also on the Chancery Case 1836-041 in the Halifax Court House Virginia. More documentation, look under the June Trem in 1835.
If you want more information on Richard B Tuck and sister Wilmouth please write to me at LendaTuck@aol.com

I'm so glad that you have given me this information. I have never seen anything to link John "Dorsey" Tuck to Eli Boyd Tuck and I've never found the name "Dorsey" either. Sounds like you've done some really good research using old fashioned leg work instead of the internet. While I like getting access to information on the internet, there are a zillion errors in that type of information. I spend a lot of time correcting my information and even the corrections I make could be wrong. Without proper documentation we can never be 100% sure that our data is absolutely correct.
However, based on your information I have made the corrections to John Dorsey Tuck. Hopefully, this is correct now. I would appreciate any other information you might have that I can use in this particular family.
Thanks. I appreciate it very much.

CORRECTION:
The wife of John D Tuck is Jane Goen and not Nancy.
All the documents that I have where John signed his name was always John D. Tuck. The researcher that said he was Eli Boyd Tuck's son, gave him the name DORSEY. There is no proof anywhere that I know of with DORSEY being his middle name. I have other documentation on John D Tuck with his signature as being John D Tuck.
After David Tuck died, his family moved to Cowata County Georgia. In fact Parthenia Tuck married Henry Garrett in Cowata County Georgia.... May 20 1934
Also one of Wilmouth Tuck and Ruben Vaughn's children were born in Coweta County....
Actually, Coweta County is where my documented research began. All the documents that I have shared is in the Coweta Court house Administrator's Bonds Book B, page 83 (1836), regarding the estate of David Tuck, deceased. Part of that record reads as follows:
"...that we Edward Tuck, William Tuck, Abram Crowley, and David Tuck acknowledge ourselves jointly and severally bound unto the honorable the Justices of the Inferior Court of said county sitting as a Court of Ordinary...in the just and full sum of seven hundred dollars to the payment of which well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and the heirs and executors of us and each of us jointly and severally by these presents. Sealed with our seals and date this 15th day of November 1836.

"The condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bound Edward Tuck who was this day appointed Guardian of the person and property of Mary Tuck, Elizabeth Tuck, John D. Tuck, Richard Tuck, Albert Tuck, orphan children of David Tuck deceased, he acknowleding of the same by his acceptance of said quardianship of this...shall ...maintain clothe and educate said orphans according to their circumstances..."

I appreciate this information. I had all the information you presented with David Tuck's descendants. I also had a John D. Tuck as one of his children. However, I have John Tuck married to Jane Goin instead of Nancy Goen. Could Nancy be Nancy Jane?
Also, other evidence that I found that indicated John Dorsey was not the son of Eli Boyd were marriage bonds between Eli Boyd and Prudence. That showed that Eli and Prudence were married in 1829 yet John Dorsey was born 1825.
I still feel this is not necessarily proof positive as John D. Tuck is not necessarily the same person as John Dorsey Tuck. But it is the best evidence presented so far and I will use it until someone proves otherwise. Thank you.

John Dorsey Tuck

I'm trying to find out exactly who the parents are of John Dorsey Tuck (b. 1825). Supposedly, it is Eli Boyd Tuck and Prudence. However, a relative of John Dorsey has stated that this is not true. I read that John Dorsey had a fight with his family and was disowned then he moved away. I also read where Lenda Tuck stated that John Dorsey does not appear in any of the census records with Eli Boyd Tuck. But that too is normal for those census records in the early 1800s. Does anyone know the answer to this? I certainly don't.

Richard & sister wilmoth with her husband Rueben moved to St. Claire Co, Mo earliest date I have been able to locate was Rueben-1843, Richard-1846. I am very much interested in this documented proof. Please contact me. I will gladly share on these branches of research .
sue tuck

Thank-you,thank-you,thank-you! I had found the marriage and baptism records of Isaac and Christian and their five children in the Frome,Somerset area,Marriage in Whatley,(Frome website) but was not able to trace either parent further yet. This is really great.
Martha Tuck who married Joshua Wellman in 1849 Carradoc Township,Middlesex Co.,Canada West is my great grandmother.I knew the Tucks were from Frome as Edwards obit in the Methodist Review stated so.Still looking for Isaac and /or Christian in Canada. I know there was a Josiah Tuck who seems to be closely related in the Carradoc area but I don't know what relation he is.He was probably older than most of Isaac's children and was a sponser of the Weslyan Methodist Church in Mt. Brydges,Carradoc township.
If anyone wants more info with regards to the Tuck family in Middlesex County,Ontario please conntact me and I will share what info I have.Sarah16138,Thank you again and I will post any new info I may find here.Bruce

Isaac Tuck is the son of John Tuck, born in East Wells on 30 Nov 1771, married Mary Lane in Frome on 16 Aug 1779. A wonderful lady, another descendant, has researched John Tuck and found a copy of his will, naming his children. His obituary was published in the Baptist Magazine of 1818, see http://books.google.com/books?id=0OIRAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA183&a...
The other children of John Tuck who were named in his will (John, James, Elizabeth, Mary and Stephen) have all been traced but Isaac had vanished, until I discovered the Canadian emigrations.
You can read about Stephen on the website of Frome town museum.

I am looking for information about the families back in U.K. of John Deall and Eliza Jane Ross. They married in Sept 1853 around Whitby Ontario Canada. They had four children John, Ida Irene, Albert E. and Charles W. I know that Ida Irene D'Eall their daughter married
a Tuck. My grandfather was Albert Edward and John D'Eall his son with Emma Knight was my father. One of my cousins, Shirley Richardson married a Norman Tuck mid 1950s, maybe related also. Any information you may have on the family origins in England and Ireland would be great as I am planning a trip to the U.K. this year and would like to do some educated researching while I am there. Also, relationships going forward would be appreciated as well.

Hi Daniel,
The Tuck family has deep English origins. My grandmother was a Tuck and her grandfather came from Hackney in London in 1853. There is a lot about this family available. They settled in Victoria and later NSW. Let me know if you are keen to find out more.
Chris

Re: TUCK FAMILY ORIGON

The answer to your question depends on how far back in time you are looking. The following is from others.

Some say that the name came to England by way of a Roman solder, who decided to stay.

The Tucks of Virginia are descended from an ancient English family chiefly of County Kent, but also of London and Norwich. Today persons of that name are found throughout England, especially in London.

“The earliest appearance of the name TUCK is found in a grant to Croyland Monastery in 1051. Five centuries later, in 1510, Sir Brian Tuck, son of Richard Tuck, was Clerk of the Council of Calais and later Secretary to Cardinal Wolsey and to Henry VIII, King of England. His daughter married a member of the Royal Guard under the Duke of Norfolk. In the reign of Queen Elizabeth, another Richard Tuck, a great-great-great grandson of John Tuck, of county Kent, was granted a coat-of-arms.
Arms: Argent, a chevron between three greyhounds' heads erased sable. Crest: Three mullets in chevron. Motto: J'ai Fait de Mon Mieux.
In 1776, Bennett Tuck along with the Wade brothers and Hunt brothers, signed a communication from Halifax County, Virginia to the Virginia General Assembly.
Bennett immigrated to Virginia between 1745 and 1750 and settled in Prince Edward County. “

THE EARLIST APPEARANCE OF THE NAME IS FOUND IN A GRANT TO CROYLAND MONASTERY IN 1052.
Croyland Abbey
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For Croyland Abbey in the town of Crowland, see Croyland Croyland Abbey (usually spelled Crowland Abbey) is a Church of England parish church Church_of_England_parish_church>, formerly an abbey church in Crowland in the English county of Lincolnshire

It was originally founded in the 8th century , and is dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin Blessed_Virgin_Mary>, Saint Bartholomew and Saint Guthlac, the last of these having dwelt there as a hermit between 699 and 714. During the third quarter of the 10th century, Croyland came into the possession of the nobleman Turketul, a relative of Osketel, Archbishop of York. Thurketel, a cleric, became abbot there and endowed the abbey with many estates. It is thought that, about this time, Croyland adopted the Benedictine rule.

Croyland is well known to historians as the probable home of the Croyland Chronicle of Pseudo-Ingulf, begun by one of its monks and continued by several other hands. In 1537, the abbot of Croyland wrote to Thomas Cromwell, sending him a gift of fish: "ryght mekely besechyng yow lordship favorablye to accepte the same fyshe, and to be gud and favorable lorde unto me and my pore house". Despite these representations, the abbey was dissolved in 1539.

Much of the abbey church survived for use by the parish, but large parts collapsed over the subsequent centuries. The present parish church is reduced to the north aisle of the old building, with ruins, including a fine west front, adjoining. One of the religious relics that the present church claims to contain is the skull of the 9th century Abbot Theodore which used to be on public display until it was stolen from its display case in 1982. The skull was later returned anonymously in 1999.

Persons linked with Cambridge will recall that their University was founded under the inspiration of the abbot of Croyland, thus Sabine Baring-Gould has said, making St Guthlac the University's spiritual father.

The abbey is also known for being the subject of a John Clare.

Tuck, J.A. He was the son of Ethelward, the brother of king Edward the Elder.
Lord Chancellor
He was raised to the position of Lord Chancellor and entrusted with all temporal and spiritual affairs. He remained in this function under different kings:
•	Edward the Elder (d. 924)
•	Ælfweard of Wessex (d. 924)
•	Athelstan of England (d. 939),
•	Edmund I of England (d. 946),
Dunstan, abbot of Glastonbury, was Turketul's most trusted friend.
Croyland Abbey

In 946 he became a monk of Croyland Abbey, which had been devastated by the Danes. He restored the abbey and became abbot in 948.
In 966 he visited king Edgar of England and received a privilege for Croyland.
He died in Croyland in 975.
Historian
Turketul wrote the history of Croyland from 716 till 973.
References
•	Ingulph’s Chronicle of the Abbey of Croyland, translated from the Latin with notes by Henry T. Riley, Esq., B.A., London MDCCCLIV

THE TUCK'S OF VIRGINIA ARE DESCENDENTS FROM AN ANCIENT ENGLISH FAMILY CHIEFLY OF THE COUNTY OF KENT, BUT ALSO OF LONDON AND NORWICH. TODAY PERSONS OF THAT NAME ARE FOUND THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE OF ENGLAND, ESPECIALLY IN LONDON, WHERE NUMEROUS PAGES OF THE TELEPHONE DIRECTORY ORE REQUIRED TO LIST THE TUCK SUBSCRIBERS.

THE EARLIEST APPEARANCE OF THE NAME IS FOUND IN A GRANT TO CROYLAND MONASTERY IN 1052. FIVE CENTURIES LATER, IN 1510, SIR BRIAN TUCK, SON OF RICHARD TUCK, WAS CLERK OF THE COUNCIL OF CALAIS AND LATER SECRETARY TO CARDINAL WOLSEY AND HENRY VIII, KING OF ENGLAND. HIS DAUGHTER MARRIED A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL GUARD UNDER THE DUKE OF NORFOLK, IN THE REIGN OF QUEEN ELIZABETH. ANOTHER RICHARD TUCK, A GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GRANDSON OF JOHN TUCK, COUNTY OF KENT, WAS GRANTED A COAT-OF-ARMS.

IN 1649, ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FIGURES IN VIRGINIA WAS LORD CULPEPPER, A KINSMAN AND COMPANION-IN-ARMS OF COLONEL SAMUEL TUCK. THIS TUCK IN 1661 WAS THE AUTHOR OF A PROPOSAL FOR THE REGISTRATION OF PLANRETS AND SERVANTS OR SLAVES IN COLONIAL PLANTATIONS, WHICH WAS DEBATED IN A MEETING OF THE PRIVY COUNCIL.

IN THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY, MANY TUCK'S MIGRATED FROM THE OLD COUNTRY TO THE COLONIES. ROBERT TUCK, A CHIRRURGEON, VINTER AND TAILOR, CAME IN 1636 FROM SULFOLK COUNTY TO SETTLE FIRST IN MASSACHUSETTS, LATER IN NEW HAMPSHIRE WHERE HE FOUNDED A MUMEROUS FAMILY. AMOUNG THOSE OF THE NAME WHO CAME TO VIRGINIA IN THE EARLY YEARS WERE; WOODHAM TUCK IN 1642; ANN TUCK IN 1652; AND WILLIAM AND ROBERT TUCK IN 1657, WHO HAD HEADRIGHTS OF 730 ACRES OF LAND, EACH IN NEW KENT COUNTY. NOTHING FURTHER IS KNOWN OF THESE EARLY VIRGINIA SETTLERS, AS THE RECORDS OF THE TIDE-WATER COUNTIES WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY DESTROYED IN THE WAR BETWEEN THE STATES.

WE DO KNOW THAT JOHN AND EDWARD TUCK, AND A THOMAS TUCK, WHO MAY HAVE BEEN A BROTHER, APPEARED IN HALIFAX COUNTY, VIRGINIA ABOUT THE TIME IT WAS CUT OFF FROM LUNDENBURG IN 1752, AQUIRED LAND, ESTABLISHED HOMES, AND REARED LARGE FAMILIES, THE DESCENDENTS OF WHOM ARE NOW SCATTERED THROUGHOUT OUR NATION.

THAT THESE BROTHERS CAME TO HALIFAX COUNTY FROM ONE OF THE TIDEWATER COUNTIES IS CERTAIN, BUT THE LENGTH OF THEIR RESIDENCE THERE IS IN DOUBT. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THEY ARE DESCENDENTS OF THE WILLIAM OR THE ROBERT WHO SETTLED IN NEW KENT IN 1657.

A FURTHER THEORY IS THAT THEY ARE COUSINS OF A GRANDSON OF ROBERT TUCK OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, WHO IS SAID TO HAVE COME TO VIRGINIA. THE REMARKABLE SIMILARITY OF THE GIVEN NAMES FOUND IN THE MASSACHUSETTS AND VIRGINIA FAMILIES AND THE PRESENCE IN BOTH OF THE UNUSUAL NAME, MARSTON, WOULD INDICATE A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP.

A FAMILY TRADITION, WHICH HAS BEEN FOUND EXISTING IN WIDELY SEPERATED GROUPS OF DESCENDENTS THROUGHOUT THE SOUTH, IS THAT JOHN AND EDWARD TUCK, WITH THEIR PARENTS AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY CAME DIRECTLY FROM ENGLAND. BY MANY, THEY ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE SETTLED IN WHAT IS NOW KING WILLIAM COUNTY, WHERE MOST OF THEM ARE SAID TO HAVE REMAINED WHEN THE BROTHERS LEFT TO MAKE THEIR HOME IN HALIFAX. SUCH UNUSAL NAMES AS BENNET, CARY AND JOSIAH ARE FOUND IN THE EARLY RECORDS OF BOTH THE KING WILLIAM AND THE HALIFAX TUCK'S, SUPPORTING THE BELIEF THAT THE TWO FAMILIES HAVE A COMMON ORIGIN.

David Tuck & Elizabeth Dewberry missing children?

While this is not my family line I think these children may be some of the missing children children of these two people. David died after 1820 but before the 1830 census. We know that they had as many as 5 sons and three daughters by 1820 and may have had more? I will post the entire documents after I have a few more people read them to check for errors since they are so hard to read. The following facts are clear.

1st
I have a document June 1835 Halifax Co. VA, parts of which are very hard to read. It is clear when it said “Infant defendants Mary J. Tuck, Richard Tuck, Albert Tuck, Elizabeth J. Tuck & John D. Tuck. “That Phaltiel Tuck, Irby Dewberry and William Thaxton? Or any two of them who are hereby appointed to sell…………… the land of which David Tuck the elder decs?

2nd
I have a document August 1836 Halifax Co. “VA,Phaltiel Tuck be appointed collector of the bond … amount? of $1269.85?? … the seventh part of the balance to Elizabeth Tuck the widow of David Tuck decs

Check your missing Tucks that you have not been able to connect to a father or mother.
