Hi Judy,

Sorry I didn't see your first notice. Johannes (John) Tillapaugh was the son of Baltus Dillenbach and grandson of Martinus Dillenbach. I found the information about Johannes's death via the online Michigan death information site. I wasn't able to do much more tracking than what you already have. My line is descended from John and Charity's son, George, who moved with his wife Julia Tuttle to Winneshiek County, Iowa. John's second wife, Cynthia, is shown in the 1870 Federal Census as living in Battle Creek, Calhoun County. She married Milton Sweet in 1872. There is another John noted in the 1860 US census as living in Milford, Oakland County, Michigan. I'm not sure who this John is, but he would be about 20 years younger than the John I'm related to.

Sorry not to be of more help. Pat

Another bit of info. As I wrote earlier in the year, we have Tillapaugh's in our line, too. I recently found our Almira's parents, in Calhoun Co.1850. They were Martin and Polly Tillapaugh, mispelled as Tillebo, I think. They had a son Daniel with them, and in 1860 they were in Lenawee Co. Mi, with newly widowed Almira (Tillapaugh) Brown. I write because of the Calhoun County connection. Maybe they were related to John and Cynthia. I hope to hear from you.

Judy, from Michigan

Hi Pat,
Just read your message, because I am looking for Tillapaugh's that came from New York to Michigan. Have you found out which family your John Tillapaugh came from? Have you read the book, online on Ancestry, "The Dallenbach's in America"? You might find your ancestor in there, but I didn't. So I am looking for possible siblings for Almira. .Our ancestor was Almira Tillapugh, b.1813, NY, maybe in Montgomery or Jefferson county, who came to MI about 1845 from Jefferson County, we believe. She was the wife of Lewis Brown and they had 12 children, 7 in NY, and the rest born in Michigan. She first was in Isabella in 1846, then Oakland, then Clinton, then Lenawee, then Hillsdale. There was a John?Jefferson Tillapaugh in Oakland county in 1870, and his mother's name was Mary. That is all I have so far. Any connection to you, or do you have any other Tillapgh/Michigan names?

Thank you for reading this and I hope a reply,
Judy Gleason, Michigan

Tuckerman listed 1870 Michigan census

A Lee Tuckerman (age 36) is listed on the 1870 Michigan census living in the township of Emmett, Calhoun County. He is a butcher and lives with his wife, Ann, age 36, and daughter Rosa age 9. Also living with them are Ann's parents John and Cynthia Tillapaugh, ages 76 and 61. All of the adults were born in New York and Rosa in Michigan.

I'm related to this Tuckerman's wife and parents, but little seems to be known about daughter Ann and her family. I'm having zero luck trying to find them from the Tuckerman angle and hope that this info sounds familiar to someone out there.

Thank you, Pat

Yes...thanks. I had that info. My primary connection is through the Fisk line....another sister, Matilda, who married Admatha Dunklee, was my husband's 2great grandmother. I was interested in tracing the families of Matilda's siblings, and got interested in this Jacob Tuckerman that way.

Death announc of Rev. Dr. Joseph Tuckerman from Hingham Patriot paper dating May 16, 1840

I am not related, just post from old papers I collect.

Hingham Patriot, Saturday Morning, May 16, 1840

Death of Rev. Dr. Tucerman.
Letters received in this city yesterday by the family of Rev. Joseph Tuckerman, furnish the painful intelligence of the death of this truly good man- who long has labored, with a devotedness seldom surpassed, to elevate the moral nature of man-and whos services in the cuase of humanity and religion will long be remembered by his community, and particularly by the families of the poor, the afflicted, and the intemperate, among whom , in imitation of his Master, "he went about doing good," and whom have often listened to words of comfort from his lips. Dr. Tuckerman's physical constitution was always weak; his health for some years past has been quite feeble, and in compliance with the advice of his physicians, he left this city in December last, for the milder climate of Cuba. But the fiat has gone forth, and he is not permitted to resume those Christian labors, in which he always experienced such delight, or visit his home and his kindered again. Those who knew him will deeply regret that they will see his face no more - but they will love to linger on his memory- Merc. Jour.

That is all that is published.

You may be
related to a branch that supoposedly
originated in Germany, and then had members
emigrate to England and Australia.
Family research

From time to time I did some family research but this was concentrated mainly around the dutch branch. This branch was traced back to Jacob Tuckermann, Bürgemeister zu Lennep in 1550. Over the years I've collected quite some information about the dutch and german branches together with lots of heraldic data. I've never used the internet to get in contact with my family in Germany and the US, and perhaps the UK. When I found this site I was surprised and glad to find a possible means to get in contact with familymembers abroad. Perhaps we can exchange family info. Are there family members in germany or the US who have been researching the family history and could use information I have, I would very much like to get in contact with them and would be more than glad to assist them in their research if this is in my power. Hoping to hear from you all soon. Greetings, Jeroen.

To Ted Tuckerman

Dear Ted,
Reading the messages and after having contact with Ute in Germany I understood you were looking for Carl Tuckermann who came to the US in the 1850s. Although I'm not absolutely sure for lack of data such as date of birth, the Carl you are looking for could be: Karl Ernst Julius Tuckermann. He was born march 3rd 1828 and a merchant in New York in 1850 . About his children I have no information. His parents were Philipp Tuckermann (*1792-+Gross-Schneen near Göttingen april 26th 1837) and Ernestine Wilhelmine Geyer (*november 4th 1805-+june 6th 1876. He was the 2nd child after Adolf Georg Julius (1826-1901). After him came: Emilie Ernestine Elisabeth (1829-1898),Auguste Luise (1831-1894), Georg Gustav (1833-1882), Ferdinand Friedrich (1835-1912) and Philipp August (1837-?)
I hope Karl Ernst Julius is the one you were looking for. If he is, I have all the information to trace your family tree back to the first half of the 16th century. Hoping I have been able to provide you with some useful information I'm looking forward to hear from you. If you wish you can contact me: j.tuckermann@student.kun.nl
Best wishes, Jeroen.
