I've seen the D'Addio name in the microfiche films for Acerra and I don't believe we're related. The Tufano name seems to be a common name in that area which is probably why I'm having trouble finding my relatives. But I will keep on looking.

Hello, I googled my Mother's name, Mary Tufano, as this is the 5 year anniversary of her passing, and I found this message board thread. My family is from Long Island. My Father's name is Salvatore Tufano. He is also deceased. He was born in a town called Saviano, just outside of Napoli in 1931 and came to NY (Brooklyn) with his Father Felice, mother Pasqualina, and oldest brother Benny.

I wonder if other posters on this board are cousins?

I just read your message from 2004 and can't believe that I either never answered it or haven't read it in the 2 yrs since you sent it. Of course I'm so used to not getting any response to the message that I may not have read the ancester's message board in 2 yrs. As to the question of antonio tufano being related, I was unable to read your GedCom. Do you have anymore information that might indicate a relationship. Such as the names of Cuono Tufano marrying Angela Sarnataro? There are many Sarnataro's listed in a film I've been working with, but so far I haven't found a birth record for an Angela Sarnataro. My mother found a marriage record for these two. However, she neglected to record where she found it, and I haven't found it either. If I didn't see your message sooner, I apologize and will pay closer attention in the future to this site. Thank you for your initial response. These people don't seem to want me to find them. Either that or I'm still looking in the wrong places. Angie Tyczka

Only kidding...

The history of the Tufano name derives from the greek Theo., meaning God..

So when names were being handed out many many years ago (BC) my forefathers must have been religious, and chose a spiritual name reflecting God's power, one hypothesis:

''God arrives''' being the greek translation for Tufano which in Greek is Theo(something...) Don't ask me I read it somewhere...

My grandmothers name was Falco, her name is clearly connected to the Falcon, which in medieval times was a trade, namely Falconry...

One of these three TUFANO chaps below, and I don't know what one, would have been my grandfathers father...I assume

take care fellow Tufano's

MS TUFANO

11 OCT 2005

p.s

These are the first TUFANO's to have settled in England according to the census...one of them must be my grandfathers dad...

1901 England Census Record
about Benedetto Tufano
Name: Benedetto Tufano
Age: 32
Estimated birth year: abt 1869
Relation: Servant
Household: View other family members
Gender: Male
Where born: Italy

Civil parish: St Andrew and St George
Ecclesiatical parish: Holy Trinity
County/Island: London
Country: England

Street address: View Image
Condition as to marriage: View Image
Education: View Image
Employment status: View Image
Occupation: View Image

Source information: RG13/247
Registration district: Holborn
Sub-registration district: Holborn
ED, institution, or vessel: 15
Folio: 63

Tufano's Resturant

I am the daughter of Lewis (Luigi Luchiano) Tufano. He is a cousin to the family who owns the Tufano resturant in Chicago. My father was born in 1908 in New York state. My grandfather's name is Anthony and he married Maddalena Daddio and they came from Naples. Their children are Lewis (known as Lou), Theresa ( Sparacino), Rose, Angie (Miller), and Charles (Chuckie/Charlie). Charles may still be living in S. California. My grandfather Tony was a barber and my grandmother Maddalena had a small grocery store.

My father's second marriage was to my mother, Mary D'Auria.
He was married previously to "Mamie" and had three children who are 8 - 12 years older than me. Their names are Madaline, Delores, and Anthony (Tony). I have met Tony several times but do not have any memory of my half sisters. Tony has a son who is a police officer in Chicago.

If anyone has information on this family I would greatly appreciate it. They all lived in the "Little Italy" section of Chicago near or on Taylor Street. I'm looking forward to hearing from you all.

My grandmother was Rosa Tufano. She came to Chicago in the early 1900's and married an Antonio Caturano in 1922. Interestingly, there is a restaurant in Chicago called "Tufano's". I took my dad there for his 70th birthday and, after conversing with the present owners (which are the grandson's of the restaurants' founder), it was determined that they were cousins of my Grandma Rosa. Rosa lived just outside of Napoli.

Antonio Mary Madalena Tufano

I've saved researching my Italian line for last... boy is it tough!! From what I've been able to gather, though, most of the Tufanos actually hail from Acerra, which is outside of Naples... easier to mention a big city when asked where you're from, but it sure muddles up the research a few generations later! - My great-great grandparents were Antonio and Mary Madalena Tufano of Acerra. They produced all daughters: Giovanna, Inez, Rosa, and Angela. My great-grandmother Angela, born 12-23-1877 in Acerra, married Ignazio Soriano and subsequently emigrated to upstate NY. Don't know if this helps anybody, but hey, a little info is better than none at all!
