Sorry for delay in replying. I think the name Tulip was only transcribed wrongly on one census for this family. I have a lot of information about Robert Mould Tulip but would love to hear from anyone else who has him in their family tree.

I am believe the George you are refering to was born in 1876 in New York. He had a son name Theodore. If this is the correct George Tulip, he was the younger brother to Henry Albert Tulip (1865-1929). Their father was Nelson Tulip and was in the Civil War with the Vermont 5th. The father of Nelson and George was Peter Tulip who was born in 1813 in Canada.

They all stayed in the Ogdensburg area except Henry who went to Chicago.
I have only recently begun a family search. My father was Henry John Tulip, and his father was Henry Albert Tulip who was born in Ogdensburg, New York. I believe that George may have been his brother. The father of Henry Albert and possibly the George in your family was Nelson Tulip who also lived in Ogdensburg and was a soldier in the Civil War from Vermont.

If this is the correct George, I have a photo of the two brothers taken around 1925.

I'm from Northern NY. My grandfather, Ralph Tulip was born in Ogdensburg, NY to father Theodore and mother Margaret Aldridge. Theodore's father was George Tulip. I don't know any dates but would like to know more about where the Tulip name originated from. I'm assuming at one time it was LaTulipe as everyone from Quebec tells me!

Hi,
I am replying to the post back in 2002 on Nelson Tulip. He was in the Civil War from Vermont, but had lived in New York. I don't believe that he left the Ogdensburg, New York area, as he is buried there and his wife received the widow pension in Ogdensburg. His son, Henry Albert Tulip moved to Chicago and was married in 1891 and died in that area. The parents of Nelson were Peter and Mary.

Hope this helps.

Of course ,it was a quiet little place(still is,I think)My Gran Tulip was supposed to be a cousin of George Stephenson's Mother(of steam engine fame) his 2nd cousin or something obscure .My Dad used to visit with her to Wylam once a month on wednesdays!Regards Betty

I made error in previous message. I notice your John Tulip born 1815 had quite a large family but that there was a gap between 1840 & 1846. Do you know if he had a son John c 1841 or if he had siblings with children of the same. Do you know if his occupation was waterman (bargeman) as I believe the Tulips who were all mostly related had their own family business. This was mostly transporting goods/cargo /coal up and down the Tyne.

Tulip name changed to Tulips

Is anyone aware of any variation in change in spelling of the Tulip name. My grandfather may have been born in England to Thomas Tulips & Elizabeth McQuillan, around 1868-1870. Can't find his birth details. When his mother took him back to Ireland with her, as a very young child, the name seems to have changed to Tulips . He was baptised in Lurgan, Armagh, in 1877 as William Patrick Tulips and married in 1899. He later moved to Scotland.

Has anyone any suggestions about possible name change from Tulip to Tulips

I have just started on my search for Tulip, most of my relatives come from the North East. James is a very common name (my father being one of them!). My father's grandfather, James, was born in America but I don't know any more. His father and he were both born in the North East in Co. Durham. My cousin is also called Louise.

I would be interested if you felt there could be a link.

If you have not viewed the Demarce Family (V.E.DeMarce) postings in Rootsweb World Connect Project, I suggest you do so. Her research is extensive and contains some results for the TULIP line that might include yours.

I have the following info for Joseph Tulip that might be new to you: "Citizenship granted Chazy, Clinton County, New York, October 1, 1844. Came to United States from L'Assomption, Canada at age 8 (1824-1826) Book #1, page #416" According to my notes from 10 years ago I have a copy of this document.

Joseph TULIP would be my 2nd great granduncle, and Francois JUNEAU dit LaTULIPPE and Charlotte LONGPRE (aka Charlotte STERLING) would be my 3rd great grandparents. My 2nd great grandparents are James TULIP Sr. and Rosalie POQUET.

Have you looked in the Canada Census for him as a child with parents? If I get time I will to my library for the Canada Census on line and look this up for you if you want as I have work to do there too. Julia

Hi Julia:

We thought of a previous marriage before, but we had never found anything that even relates to the Coventry family at all, except a few pictures of Frank Coventry.

We don’t know when her father disappeared from the picture, but we suspected maybe the Coventry family adopted her when she was fairly young or at least raised her.

Ira Adelbert Andrews (my great grandfather) married Adda Coventry (Adeline Tulip) Nov 23, 1871, Mc Henry Co., Illinois.

Register of Marriages of Cloud Co., Kansas recorded Oliver Delong married Adeline Coventry 27 May 1907. They both said it was their 2nd marriage.

Thank you for your reply, who knows, maybe you are right and they didn’t tell the truth.

Gloria Pruyne
Great grand daughter of Adeline
My grandmother's mother was Adeline Tulip, born 20 june 1847, in New York, and died in Kansas, 3 feb 1941. Her father was joseph Tulip. I don't know when he died. Actually, he was born Francois Latulippe in 1818 in Quebec, Canada. All of his children used the name, Tulip.
Her mother was Rosalie La Bombard.

When Adeline married my grandmother's father, Ira Adelbert Andrews, she said her name was Addie Coventry, and her mother and father were William and Maud (or Marie?) Coventry, (her signature was hard to read).I don't know of any adoptions or previous marriages for Adeline.

I have several pictures of Frank Coventry, taken in Chicago.
I have a lot of pictures of Adeline, and her brother, Frank Tulip.

I don't know how Frank Coventry fits in, or why i have any pictures of him. I don't know who his parents are.
Francois married to Charlotte Sterling is my third great grandfather, Francois (Joseph) married to Rosalie La Bombard is my second great grandfather. Adeline Tulip married to Ira Adelbert Andrews is my great grandmother.

Adeline Tulip's parents were Joseph Tulip and Rosalie La Bombard. I couldn't find any trace of Joseph Tulip after 1850 in the 1850 census. They were in Beekmantown, Clinton Co., NY. Joseph was 32, Rose 28, Francis 7, Rosalia 5, Adaline 3 and Sophia 1.

I'm guessing that Joseph died and Adeline was raised by William and Maud Coventry because when Adeline married her 2nd husband, Oliver DeLong on 27 May 1907 she listed the Coventrys as her parents. When she married her 1st husband, Ira Adelbert Andrews she said her last name was Coventry.
Can anyone solve this mystery?

Also, Ira Adelbert Andrews Adeline Tulip's first husband was a train conductor. One time he went to work and never came back, around 1891. We have no idea what happened to him. Either he died or he just left. Can anyone solve this?

Gloria (Strang) Pruyne
California

P.S. We have pictures of Frank Tulip, Adeline Tulip and her sister Rosalie.
