Hi,

Further to previous, I recommend that you look up the
following web sites:

www.familysearch.org which will show a marriage between
William Tully and Mary Bohan in Galway registration district
in 1877. This district covers Galway city, Moycullen on the
West side and Oranmore/ Claregalway on the East side.

www.nationalarchives.ie which will give you the 1911 census for County Galway showing the name William Tully in
the Dunmore area (3), Ballinasloe (1).

www.askaboutireland.ie will give you the record of landholders in County Galway in the period 1846 to 1855.

Civil Registration Office at 25, Newcastle Road, Galway holds the records for all County Galway from 1864. All
births registered are computerised, marriages from 1924 todate, so it involves a search of the records for 1877 for
marriages, which can incur a small fee.
The 'phone No. is +35391546141 or +35391546142.

The marriage certificate will show the name of the father in
respect of each spouse and the their address and occupation
and the church and Pastor who performed the ceremony.

I hope this gets you on the right track.

Copy of Record: 6 Euro (photocopy)

Hi,

If the marriage took place in Galway there should be a record as all marriages from the 1st January, 1864,
including birth and death had to be registered.

Details can be had by sending a request to the Registrar,
Convent Road, Roscommon.

See www.groireland.ie

Regards

Sorry to bother you on what may be a fruitless search but i am a Tully from the North East of Durham England and have been researching my family, (tully/whitehead) for only a year but there is one problem i have. From memory i remember my father telling me that the family originated in Ireland but up to now have been unable to trace an Irish connection, from the trees i have researched and borrowed from, it seems to be that my tree of the family originated in the north of england but i find this strange in that we have a very Irish name and most memories that i have managed to use have this so called Irish connection.
I know that the name is in use over many parts or the U.K. but i have been able to track most of these trees to the U.K., even the London trees have some part of the history in the North east though i did find two who were born in Ireland but lived in the U.K..
A forlorn hope perhaps, but hopefully you will have sufficient information to be able to tell me, one way or another, whether the Irish connection is correct.
thanking you in advance
alan tully
my ancestry trees are open to anyone both Tully,Whitehead and Alans tree

Re: re: Bertha

regarding your query Bertha and solomon bernstien, i have no direct knowledge of bertha though there was a tully family in london around the time that solomon was born 1887.
The tully christian names are George father and Ann mother, they had at least one daughter Elizabeth (Bertha?) who wed
in either chelsea or Battersea. Suggest you type in the
information you have i.e. names and births , even the name
Bernstien will give you a lead, try census after 1880 then
follow the leads. I once found Ann living with a Jewish
sounding family but that was some time ago and the information has long been deleted, if you don,t mind waiting
i,lldo another search, see what i can find. By the was the
mother and father originated in the North East, Durham or
Northumberland, ther are a number of tree researching the
same area, just type the name in andpress search.
good luck
alan

regarding your search for Henry Tully, i do have henry in my tree but not the same one, the one i have is henry R tully, born in Durham England, the last census report shows him to be living only a few miles from where he was born.
One thing which comes to mind is that he was a ship owner, that is not to say that he was ever in the States though stranger things have happened, there is a record of his brother James E Tully returning to Southampton England on a steam ship early 1900s. No i think that i am clutching at straws, your Henry and mine a probably different.
good luck in your search, my trees are public and available
alan tully

Help!

I'm looking for a connection: Bridget Tully born Ireland.

My Bridget Tully married a John McNamara (Macnamara/Macnamera)born Ireland had my great great grandfather Dennis David McNamara born Leland, IL 1863ish. I have the cemetery records of my ggf listing his parents name. I have no other information on them currently but believe Dennis David had several siblings. I know they were a strong catholic family and believe they must have stayed in the IL area for several years...my great great grandfather, Dennis David (aka David Dennis) married my great great grandmother Mary Emma Livey in around 1890. Mary Emma lived with her family in Walnut, IL until the time she married. My great grandfather Charles Francis McNamara was born in Walnut, IL.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Joei

This is the main reason for my interest in him.
Thank you so much for the additional information on the Van Cleve book.

Searching for a Clan Genealogist for the O'Maoltuile Clan

Hi all,

I write to you in the hope that our recently rejuvenated O’Maoltuile Clan (Tully Clan) can find itself a Clan Genealogist.

For those who are unaware, some months ago, a group of Tully’s from Tully Family International of Facebook came together to formally establish the Irish Clan of Tully and register it with the Irish authorities and Clans of Ireland Organisation.

A constitution was drafted and now our Sept (Clan) is a reality (we are an active group) and can be visited on www.tully.ca/clan.

We have a Clan Council but have been unable to identify person to take on the key post of Clan Genealogist, so have approached this forum with the hope of finding a volunteer who has a passion for genealogy and who would be interested in championing a massive undertaking for the entire clan.

So, if there are any amateur genealogists out there and if you’re a Tully (even better, but not essential) and would be interested in co-ordinating all the Tully research in this field internationally, kindly contact our Clans vice-Chairman & Pursuivant Mr Andrew Tully on macatilla@yahoo.co.uk or clan.tully.vice.chair@gmail.com or reply to this thread please.

Many thanks and looking forward to some news.

Regards

Andrew Tully
It is interesting to learn that there is more research being done on David Tully and his family. David Tully was a first cousin of my greatgrandfather Andrew Tulloch. There is very interesting information about his death and the life of the surviving son, Andrew, in a couple of documents at the Minnesota Historical Society. You may already have found them but if not, here are the references:Robert Campbell Memoir (Campbell was a nephew of Tully's and his family were travelling south with the Tullys) The other is a memoir by the daughter of an officer at Fort Snelling: "Three score years and ten," life-long memories of Fort Snelling, Minnesota, and other parts of the West, by Charlotte Ouisconsin Van Cleve. This latter book talks about Andrew Tully's arrival at Fort Snelling and his trip back to the eastern US. Late in Andrew's life, he visited the author of the memoir and she records their time together. Her memoir is online--it should turn up if you google it.
I have a letter written in 1837 by Andrew Tully to a cousin (another Andrew Tully, who was a Presbyterian minister). That Andrew Tully forwarded the letter to my greatgrandfather and it has remained in our files since. The letter is not of much interest historically, just mentions that he is going to Sunday school and is apprenticed to a harness maker, butit makes a fascinating link to a story that was obviously very well known in the 19th century.
I certainly would be interested to hear of any more information about David Tully and his family that you may have.
Judith Tulloch

Christian Tully or Tullie born about 1749

Christian Tully/Tullie married Simon Cramond/Crammond 13 June 1769 in Cornhill, Durham Eng. She died 3 June 1785 age 36 & Simon remarried. Need names of Christian & Simon's children. Possibly had a daughter also named Christian who married George Matthewson on Holy Island, Northumberland, Eng. in 1805. Did they also have a son James Cramond born about 1782 who married Elizabeth Wright in 1808 on Holy Island? James & Elizabeth then immigrated to NY, USA by 1810.

It has been awhile since I have viewed the Tully site, so I don't remember if I had seen your reply from Dec. 2007 or not. If you are still searching for information on Delia Tully, etc., please let me know and we will pick up on our communication about the Tullys.
Thank you.
Walter

Re: William I. Tully in Shelby Co., Texas

Have heard anything further about William Tully or his brother? My connection is a Frank D. Barnes who married William and Martha's daughter Jeff Davis Tully in Shelby Co., Tx. in 1901. Interestingly, my search for Ben F. Barnes has led me to Frank D. Barnes. Many similarities point to Frank being Ben F. Barnes who left a wife and 4 children in Hutchinson, Kansas about 1895. Frank (died 1936) and Jeff (died 1977, age 96) are buried in different locations in Plainview Cemetery, Plainview, Tx. Family information says that William Tully died in Timpson, Tx. in 1924 and his wife Martha died in 1920. I was trying to find out where they are buried and link them to their daughter on Findagrave.

John was born in Dracut, MA - not sure what year. He had a son Leo born in 1938 and a daughter Dolores born in 1940. In 1940 he was a bartender. I am not sure if and when he married Ida McAskill. They (or she) lived in Lowell. The other info I have is that he might of had a family member who was Bishop Markham from St. Peter's Church in Lowell. The faimly did come from Irland at some point.

To identify your Tully family line via DNA research you need an unbroken father-to-son male line. From your user name I'm guessing you are a woman, in which case your son can't test. Since your father, grandfather and uncles are gone your best bet would be a male cousin from one of your uncles. (My cousin tested for me.) His DNA will be identical to what your father's was.

Good luck--we'd love to have you in the project.

Colleen

Tully and Kilburn and Brettells - Durham area

Hi

I'm trying to trace the following surnames, Tully, Kilburn and Brettell, in West Auckland, Darlington areas

My nanna Enid Mary Kilburn's parents William Kilburn born 1890 and Minnie Brettell 1890 (Brettle). Williams father was Arthur Tully Kilburn 1869 and married to Florence Barlow.

I think Arthurs parents are William Byers Kilburn and Mary Tully.

I was wondering if there are any body out there that also has the same connection or can help me on this brick wall

Keren

Hi Lesley

I was wondering if you could help me... My family come from Durham.. My Great Great Grandfather is Arthur Tully Kilburn born 1869 ish, I think his parents might have been William Byers Kilburn and Mary Tully, haven't confirmed this as yet. Arthur married Florence Barlow and one of his children William Kilburn born 1890 married Minnie Brettell born 1890.

Keren

barbara, further to your search, re,elizabeth tully, 1857.
as we know we found her mother, ann born in durham, well i,ve managed to discover her father was george but as yet no place of birth but i,m guesstimating that it would be sometime around 1820 and most likely be in durham where ann came from. It wasn,t often that women wandered the country alone, they usually moved around with family. I would assume that George and Ann moved south then had children before father george died

Please let me intoduce myself as the local historian.
I googled the Tully name because I am working on a Historical paper. David Tully and family were killed by Dakota Indians in Grandforks, North Dakota (not SD). English Coulee wich runs through the city was named after this event. I know Andrew who was captured died on February 18, 1892. Was he in New York? he was apprenticed as a coach trimmer and harness maker to a Thompson.

W. Tully:
I am the tribal Historian for the Spirit Lake Dakota.
I write up historical "messages" for the fun of it.
I haven't been able to get any of them published.
I am 69 years old and want to get this stuff down for the next generation.I keep a copy of my papers at the University of North Dakota - Grandforks.
My email is Louis_Garcia@littlehoop.edu
I will certainly send you a copy of my "Message from Garcia"
when I complete it. There is a lot of unpublished material to cover on David and Andrew Tully. Any help will be appreciated.
