Joseph Pinkney Turbyfill, "Pink," was my ggg-grandfather. He was born 1830 in Lincoln County, N.C. and died Nov. 21, 1901 in Russelville, Virginia. I have a lot more information at home on him. I also have a book that has a page or two on him. When I get home I will post what book it is and what other information I have on him.

Home Blaze Takes Bethel Man's Life

IDABEL (AP) - A McCurtain County man died Sunday in a fire
which destroyed his home in the community of Bethel, about
35 miles north of here.

The sheriff's office said the body of O. Sam Jefferson, 46,
was found in a bed in the ruins of the house. The fire was
believed to have been started by a wood-burning stove.

Jefferson's wife and three children were visiting friends
at the time of the fire.

Jefferson's death was the third in McCurtain County within
48 hours. Two men died Saturday in a blaze which destroyed
a tavern near Idabel. Victims of that fire were Perry Lee
Turbyfill, 58, and his son Perry Lee Turbyfill, 20, both of
Tom. The Turbyfill's operated the tavern.

According to my info she was the daughter of
Wesley and Elizabeth Franklin Turbyfill. Also
shows she was married to Lonnie Mills. Hope that helps and if I can help on anything else
dont hesitate. I have not been on the net much lately as Dad has been under the weather
after a fall with his horse late November. Thank goodness he is doing real well now and maybe I can get back into this research. Wesley and my fathers father were brothers.

My great grandfather was Walter Lee Turbyfill and great grandmother was Carrie Roseann Sawyer. I am the eldest daughter of Jean Turbyfill Cascio whose father was John Turbyfill. Do you have any other information about the family? My great grandfather Walter Lee moved to Columbia, SC from Maiden, NC to work at one of the cotton mills. I would like to find out more about our family history.

Looking for information about Francis William (or Wilburn) Turbyfill, son of Anderson Turbyfill. He was born in Lincoln Co., NC 5 May 1836 and died in Gaston Co., NC 25 Nov 1918. He married Mary Agnora Elizabeth Payne, born ca 1847, the daughter of John Franklin Payne (1821-1881) and Martha A. McCorkle (1818-1853). Francis and Mary were married 18 Oct 1871 in Catawba Co., NC. Francis is supposed to be buried in Oakland Cemetery, Gaston Co. They had four children that I know of, but there may have been others: (1) Pinkney, born ca 1873, (2) Virginia, born ca 1875, (3) Nannie, born ca 1877, and Garland, born ca 1879. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

Some work has been done on your line -- although we haven't definitively proven how the line connects to all the other T's in western NC. I have a photo circa 1900 of "C C Turbyfill and family" among old photos of my grandfather's. I believe there is a family connection here. My grandfather was Deryl Glosup (1901-1976 in Texas). His parents were Joel B Glosup (1863-1947 in Alabama and Texas) and Eleanor Williams (1876-1909 in Texas.

You may want to try the Garland surname board.. I believe you will find clues in the first names of the kids.. Pinkney and Garland are surnames of a huge clan of families in the western NC and eastern TN area. I've also seen the Payne surname frequently on the Garland research pages.... Good luck!

I grew up in two places, the Boone County area, Arkansas, and the Avery County area, North Carolina, mostly in Elk Park, NC, on Elk River Road. I loved that big waterfall!
Anyways, I'm on a quest to find out more about my family. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please email me!!!
My grandfather was George Washinton Turbyfill, born 31 March 1897 in Elk Park, NC and died 13 Oct 1992 in Elk Park, NC.
I cannot find any records of his birth. Was Elk Park once in Mitchell Co?
His mother, I know for a fact, is Deliah Oaks. I need to find out which Turbyfill Deliah Oaks married, hence... George' s father.
Someone says it's Curtis Turbyfill, but I'm not "accepting" it as a fact until I can find some documentation.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
