Since 2004 we have come across those death certificates and subsequent updates to our Turley information. Have you seen Charles Crook's site:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/r/o/Charles-S-C...

He is a descendant of Benaiah and has been very helpful in our pursuit of the Turleys.

Are you a descendant from this family?

Jonathan Turley had two wives. The first was Martha Ann McCallister. She was the mother of Samuel, Hester, and Beniah. Martha died about 1848 and Jonathan married Nancy Poor before the 1850 census. Nancy was the mother of Cornelius and Lewis.

Although Hester's death certificate is a bit difficult to read in spots, it clearly lists the last name of her mother as "McCallister." Online at Missouri State Archives. http://www.sos.mo.gov/TIF2PDFConsumer/DispPDF.aspx?fTiff=/ar...

Cornelius' death certificate lists his mother as "Nancy Poor." After Jonathan Turley moved to Missouri, Beniah was raised by his maternal grandparents, William and Jane McCallister. He was on the 1860 census with them:

1860 > VIRGINIA > MASON > HARTFORD CITY Series: M653 Roll: 1361 Page: 865

Wm McCallister/McCollister, 75 farmer Virginia

Jane 74 VA

Amanda E. 26 VA

Beniah H. Can anyone share with me how I can find Turleys that lived there in the late 1800's? I would very much appreciate it.

Texas Kimmy

When you go to the photograph site, you will also see a picture of Mcdonald (MacDonald) Turley and his wife Margaret Webster. He is identified as being the son of Charles Turley and Mary Sanders. That is not correct. MaDonald, son of Chrles and Mry Sanders son died unmarried at the military hospital Paducah, Ky on 18 December, 1864. The boy is buried at Mound City National Cemetery, Sec E, Site 2981. That is at Hy 37 & 51 Mound City, Ill. There is only one other McDonald I know of. He is maried to Maraget Wevster and i see his ancestry is Jacob, Benjamin, Ignatius.

My 18 year old MacDonlad's line is Charles, Jacob, Ignatius

It is difficult because all the Turleys for many generations named their sons after fathers, brothes, grandfathers, Uncles; LaRita Reynes

Boy, these Turley's are so difficult to sort out in this area. They inter-married a lot with the Bailey's and Lacy's, whom I'm descended from. Do you think it's possible that Thomas Turley was a son of James Cabell Turley (bef. 1725 - aft. 1760)? He died in Franklin Co., VA. Thanks, Patrick Murphy

I would like to correspond with descendants/family of George (Lake?) Turley from Mexico. My father, Antonio Ivins Martineau from Chuichupa, served a Mexican Mission from 1936-1939 and has a collection of companion and misc. mission pictures. I would like to share these pictures with others who are descendants. There is a George Turley in several of the pictures but I don't know exactly who he is. Dad's other companions or those in the Mission area were David Haws, Elvin Beecroft, Beth Brown, Arthur & Wendell Pierce, Nora Redd, Lavern Whetten, Gennie Whetten, Margaurite Anderson, Margarite Taylor, Hannah Taylor & Jack Davis.

As information I have photo's of some of the Turley grave stones at Young America and one of them is Julia (Harness) Turley. My great uncle Ovid Turley is also buried there. My mother Imogene Turley Davis is the daughter of Vigo Thomas Turley who's father was William Thomas Turley. Most likely your family Turley and mine are related someway.

I can be reached at tmdavis1017@comcast.net if interested in these grave stone photo's.

Tom Davis Elkhart, IN

Our James Turley was born in 1725 in Pittsylvania VA, and died in 1808 in Pitts Co VA [WV]. He married Mary Shaw and had 2 sons, James Jr b 1748 d 1838 in Cabell Co VA [WV] and John Turley b 1750 d 1851 in Kanawah Co WV.
The Turleys from Pittsylvania Co. VA are descended from Thomas Turley who settled in 1747 on Keith's Island in the Roanoke River.
By 1820 the following Turley's were in the Coal River Area of WV. Zachariah Turley b bf 1775, Nathan Turley Sr b ca 1780, John Turley, Sr b 1750, Thomas Turley b ca 1780, Samuel Turley b ca 1780, and James Turley, Jr. [brother of John Turley] b ca 1754. How they all are related, I'm not sure. except for John and James, Jr. to whom I'm related.
They are a lot of John, James, Nathan, and Thomas' in the family. So it is hard to keep them all straight

There was a William Turley born 1812 to Thomas and Agnes [Childress] Turley who married Mariah Bailey in 1835. He could possibly be the one in the 1840 census since Thomas Turley is listed too. There is also a Wyatt Turley, son of Samuel Turley, listed on the same census page and he is the nephew of Thomas Turley.
There is also a William Turley born 1802 died 1885, m 1885 Matilda Turley born 1803. It is not known if he was the son of Samuel Turley.
Hope this helps some

Hi Yvonne,

My ancester was Edward Turley, a carpenter. He married Mary Andrews at Shelsley Beauchamp. Edward was born about 1780, but I do not know where he was born, or who his parents were.

Edward & Mary had three children, Mary, Edward and Ellen. I am decended from Ellen, who married James Thomas Tatham. Edward died a bachelor. As for Mary, well she married Richard Footman, and is the mother of Edwin Turley Footman, who's grave you mentioned.

Unfortunatly, I know very little about the Turley's, or the Footman's. I realy only know what the census records have told me, but I will be willing to pass this information on if you like.

How are you decended from the Turley's?

John Turley and Sterling Long

Revae,
Indian Creek must have just been a voting precinct in Morgan Co. I have no idea where it was. You can find the census record by using John Finley as the name or use Abram Goodpasture b. 1818. He is living two or three houses down. Abram is a brother to Hannah and his daughter married a brother of John A Turley.
I have moved Sterling Long down a generation and have him as a son of George and a grandson of Henry. The reason is one of the letters Maggie kept from her grandmother Elizabeth Turley. In it she states "Aunt Eva’s (Turley) husband Amiga Streeter is your cousin. He was your grandfather’s, Sterling Long, sister’s son."
According to the marriage records William A Streeter married M Eva Turley. William is the son of Andrew J Streeter and Martha Elsada Long. Martha is the daughter of George Long, therefore Sterling must also be a son.
I have a question for you. Do you have a Lula Belle Long b. 1862 in your files. She marrried Samuel Goodpasture in 1884 and I have not been able to connect her to George Long. While it is quite possible she is from another line, it seems this area kept marrying into each others families time after time.

Don

Edith Clara Turley b. 1901 TX d. 1951 CA

I was so very happy to have found information this week on my grandfather Jesse Jennings Turley's youngest sister Edith but saddened to learn that she had died at age 49 years old in 1951 in Santa Rosa, CA. This was 8 years before my birth in 1959 so this explains why I never remember visiting with this side of the family while growing up. Grandfather Jesse died in 1950 in TX the same month and year as their mother Mattie who died in OK. Jesse also had an older sister named Myrtle born in May 1895 that I am having trouble finding. I have a picture that belonged to my deceased grandmother of Mytle's grave that was taken in Nov. 1960 but it doesn't say where the grave is. It is not a fresh grave either. My great aunt Myrtle was born in May 1985, my grandfather Jess on Sep 3, 1989 and Edith Nov 21, 1901 all in TX. (Jess at Preston Bend, TX)

I would love to correspond with any of Edith's family or anyone that may know information of Myrtle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kim Abrahamson, daughter of Peggy Turley

Based on looking at other family trees on the site, I believe I may be able to trace my line back up through Paul & Sara Turley as well also as 6xGreat Grandparents. I haven't purchased any subscriptions to look at documents or visited Indiana to research on my own yet, so any information you have would be wonderful. I got my start with information from my dad & Grandmother, whose maiden name is Turley.

Orville Ray Turley 1908-1981 (M Lora Mae Raines)
Milton Turley 1887-1915 (M Fay Anna Waldron)
Sampson Turley 1806-1889 (M Sarah Freed)
Benjamin Turley 1783-1855 (M Elizabeth?)
Ignatius Turley 1746-1813 (M Rachel Penson)
Paul 1707-1772 & Sara Turley 1710-1792

I have been starting to look into these things myself and have traced my family line back to Henry & Julia - through my Great Grandfather Orville Ray Turley & Great Grandmother Lora Mae (Raines) Turley, to my Great-Great Grandfather Milton Turley & Great-Great Grandmother Fay Anna (Waldron) Turley. If you are still using this board it would be interesting to get some information from you since I'm starting out and it sounds like we've found some similar information.

I've started to find other names and dates in lines listed on this site, but am taking a closer look at several of those as there are some incorrect/missing pieces the further back you get - as you can imagine.

Hi Stephan, my maiden name is Turley, and they started off in Martley with Richard c1759, he married Sarah bc1763 they had 4 children as far as I know, Richard, John, William, Ben. I have loads of names from Martley, including those on 1841 Tythe map. I am having the problem of matching them all up I have looked on the 1841 & 51 census and there are a lot of Turleys in Martley and around as you have probably found out, so any help would be most appreciated, my emali is yroskelly@yahoo.com You have answered the question of Mary Turly and the Footmans. Are you on Genes Reunited? we could exchange trees if you are, I have quite a big one, I think all these Martley Turleys must be related. My line was William c1825 who moved to London with family. I hope we can be of help to each other, Regards Yvonne.

Turley - County Down to Southern Mass

My earliest Turley ancestor in the US is named John Turley, born 4-15-1848/49. He emigrated from the Newry, County Down area in 1867 and naturalized in 1872. He lived in North Attleboro, MA, which is near the RI border. His parents were Michael and Catherine Murphy Turley, who remained in Ireland. John had siblings, Thomas (settled in ME), Patrick, James, Michael (lived in US & Ireland), Mary, Bridget (lived in RI & MA). Anyone related to this family? I know much about them once to the US but very little in Ireland.
