Try and get ahold of "The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum" In Allegheny county Pennsylvania. That would be a good reason to why they didnt talk much about her. Family members were sent there long ago and basically left and cut off. It was a way to get rid of "troubled" family members. That could also explain why she wasnt voting or in the census records. Just an idea. It would explain quite a bit. Google the Asylum. They have a website.
Good Luck,
Rachel

Hi Kim,
I'm John Edward Turner, son of Charles and Kathy. I'm looking for information on the Turner side of my family. My grandfather was Clyde, brother to your grandmother, Lola. I never knew any of the Turners, seems they all may have moved to the Chicago area before I was born. I know that Clyde married (I think they were married!) Barbara Owens from Middlesboro,KY. Barbara passed in 1971, but I understand that they separated sometime before that and that Clyde then moved to Chicago and remarried.
If you happen to know anything, please let meknow.
Thanks!
Marylee Turner Whirrett

SHARON, PA. - Mrs. Marylee T. “Lee” Whirrett, 73, of 4938 Maple Drive S.E. in Vienna, died peacefully on Friday at 2:15 p.m. at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio after a brief illness.

Mrs. Whirrett was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on Nov. 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Granville B. and Dorothy (Ferguson) Turner.

Lee was a 1953 graduate of Sharon High School and went on to earn a college degree in mathematics at a time when such degrees were dominated by men.

She had worked as a computer engineer and project supervisor at WCI Steel Ohio for 24 years. After retiring, she went to work as a prescription assistant for S.C.O.P.E., also in Warren. She had previously worked at Lockheed Corporation, where she was the first female computer engineer, and for Republic Steel and LTV Steel.

Active in the community, she was a blood donor for the American Red Cross and volunteered for Rotary, the Vienna Presbyterian Church, and for S.C.O.P.E. of Warren, Ohio.

Lee will long be remembered by all her family and friends for her optimism and cheerfulness. There are so many words to describe her: compassionate, dynamic, energetic, fun, supportive, intelligent, honest, truthful, analytical, before her time, full of life, stoic, and strong in her beliefs. Everyone who knew her would agree and could tell a story of how each attribute fit her.

Lee excelled at whatever she did. She was a seamstress who enjoyed the art of quilting. She was also very active with aerobics, tap dancing, ballroom dancing, and traveling. She was a member of the Vienna Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an elder.

She was the widow of John David “Dave” Whirrett, whom she married on Nov. 18, 1961. He died in 2005.

Her survivors include her daughter, Susan Pedan of Joshua, Texas; her son, James M. “Jamie” Whirrett of Columbiana, Ohio; a granddaughter, Dana Hilty; three grandsons, Michael and Bret Pedan and Macen Whirrett; and a great-granddaughter, Piaton Pedan. She also is survived by her sister, Barbara Case of Visalia, Calif., and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St. in Sharon.

Funeral services will be at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home in Sharon, at noon on Thursday, Oct. 29, with the Rev. Henry Pierce of the Vienna Presbyterian Church officiating.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage, Pa.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Howland Branch Library, 9095 East Market St., Warren OH 44484

There was an Edward Turner, aged 69, married to Anne, aged 78 living on Mairscough Lane in 1911. He describes himself as 'Wheelwright' working on his 'Own Account' and from his own home. They had been married for 26 years. His birthplace is given as Hindley, Lancs and hers as Downholland. I live on Mairscough Lane and am not sure which property it will have been, but can say a few which it wasn't!
Hope this is useful.

E.L. Turner - Itawamba Co., Mississippi 1853 - 1860

I'm looking for any information on E. L. Turner of Itawamba County, Mississippi. He may be the missing eldest son of Lorenzo Dow Turner and Juditha Smith Turner who we have never been able to account for.

In the Mississippi State and Territorial Census Collection, 1792-1866, my Brooks and Turners appear on 4 lines adjacent to each other for the 1853 census. The numbers following each name indicate the number of males/females.
Thos. R. Brooks - 1/3 (daughter married a son of L. D. Turner)
L. D. Turner - 8/4
F. M. Turner - 1/1
E. L. Turner - 1/2

I find them all in the 1860 state census as well; however. E. L. Turner is not on the same page as all the others. The second set of numbers indicate the number of male/female slaves.
A. Y. Turner - 2/3
F. M. Turner - 2/3
L. D. Turner - 6/1
T. R. Brooks - 3/4
Charles Brooks - 3/2 - 2/1
John C. Brook - 2/4
S.K. Brooks - 6/4
T. R. Brooks - 3/4
E. L. Turner - 2/4

In the Itawamba Co. Marriage Book 3, there is a record for E. L. Turner and Catherine Smith, married 19 Sep 1850, Jas. Cook, MP.

In Marriage Book 4, there is a record for Elijah L. Turner and Nancy Watts, married 17 Sep 1852, Hugh McVay, JP.

Lorenzo Dow Turner had a brother named Elijah. Could this E.L./Elijah L. Turner be the same person and named for Lorenzo Dow Turner's older brother?

I cannot find an E.L. Turner or Elijah L. Turner in any federal census.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Ron Turner

Edmond and Flora May Turner

I am looking for any information on Flora May. I do not know her maiden name, but according to the 1930 census she was born in Alabama. Her tombstone (Brinkley, Monroe, Arkansas) has her dob as 2/28/1906 and her dod as 7/28/1934. I know that Edmond lived in Greenfield, Monroe, Arkansas starting as early as 1910. They were married approximately 1923 but I have no idea where. Any help would be very much appreciated. They also had 2 children: Ira Eugene b. 1927 and Ruth Virginia b. 1928 Thank you for the help!

Hiram L. Turner married Etta Florence Allen in White Co. on 10 Jan 1904. Hiram died sometime before the 1910 census, when widow Florence and daughter Lelah Mae are living with her father, John Wesley Allen in White Co. Was Hiram from your line? I don't know what happened to him, or their daughter after 1920 - when Florence had married Wm. Mauldin in Jackson Co. and Lela was with them as stepdaughter.
Joan

George Eric Turner

Can anyone help?
I am trying to find out anything about my natural father George Eric Turner known I think as Eric. He and my mum were divorced in 1947 and I never knew anything about him until I was in my late teens. My mother always said she would tell me all about them both but never did. I have been researching my family history on my stepfathers side and curiousity has led me to trying to find my "real" father. He was born in Salford in 1919 and had 2 brothers John and James His parents were John and Mary nee Copple all from Salford.
I can imagine he would have got married again and would be interested to find out if he had more children or indeed to find any cousins or relatives past or present.
I will leave this and hope I may get some rely from it.
Have just found he died in Dec.2003 Lancashire.
Eileen E.

I realize that your posting is older but that is even more reason to make a comment as much has been learned on the line of George Turner family of Spartanburg Co. SC that you are referring to.

This family is NOT a descendant of Humphrey Turner at all and has been shown clearly by DNA that they have no common ancestry.

Both lines have been well documented in the Turner DNA Project with FTDNA and they have totally different DNA signatures.
