Hnery Turney, son of Johannes Peter Turney

I recently found 3 land grants that really make me question the birth date for Henry Turney b 1745 VA. Here they are:
Henry Theany/Thoany lot 247 in Winchester VA 15 May 1752
Henry Theany/Thoany lot 253 in Winchester VA 15 May 1752
Hnery Thany, assignee of Ulrich Miller, heir at law of Jacob Miller, 384 a on both sides of old waggon road on West side of N. Shenandoah adj John Painter and Daniel Newland. surveyed in 1754

This would make Henry less than 10 years old if he were born in 1745. The grant on the Shenandoah is also close to where his father had land that was adj to Daniel Newland.

Has anyone found any other information about his birth year?

POW/MIA Korean War, TURNEY

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Wayne County, Michigan as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: WALDO W TURNEY, JR
Born: July 7, 1930 Caucasian
Date of loss: October 6, 1952 MIA
Service # 55210095
C Co 17th Inf Rgt, 7th Inf Division

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Turney family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I can't find her name in my work. However, the Curlsville you mentioned IS a very small community in Clarion PA (about 2 miles from the nursing home where my Mom currently resides). I have no doubt we are the same family - just don't have the name. Have you contacted the courthouse in Clarion with her birth date? They may have information on her. Rachael however is not one of the daughters I have for the Michael Turney I'm descended from. Good luck in your search - it can be exhausting!

I believe that I may have come across some of the Turney's of Wisconsin. THere is an obit online for Genevieve (Rabideau) Turney married to Leonard Franklin Turney. The obit lists children Earl B (born 1909) Gordon F (1912) LeRoy or Roy (1914) Lenore (1916) and Maxine (1920). Genevieve was also known as Jenny and had 3 brothers Louis Rabideau of Marinette, Wisconsin, Dan Rabideau of Niagra Falls, NY;Joseph Rabideau of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Mary (Romeis) of Sheboygan, WI; Sarah (Williams) of Person.

I believe that Louis of Marinette was my great grandfather. But have not been able to confirm as yet. Hope this helps you some.

Hi there
Dates don't sound quite right but I do have an Albert on my tree (Albert Arthur) born 1861 - he's the older brother of my gt grandfather Cornelius. Where was your Albert born as there could be a link a generation back perhaps?

The Albert on my tree married Sarah Barber and I have down one child for him - Arthur - born in 1886.

I've found two of the children of Arthur Edward you list - Molly and Thelma - and they are born around Bucks which isn't too far from Herts. However they are born in 1911 and 1913. Did you say Arthur's marriage to Elizabeth was 1879?

Would be interested to talk to anyone who has a Turney from Tring/Berkhampstead area on their tree. I've got as far back as DANIEL Turney (c1750) based on IGI. Trail gets more concrete with MOSES Turney (c1832), a one-time funeral musician who married Jane (or Sara Jane) Gower in 1851. They had a lot of children. I think the list reads:
Emma 1851,
Ann 1854,
Edward 1858,
Albert 1861,
Moses 1868,
William c1869,
Mary 1871,
Cornelius 1876 (my gt, grandfather),
and finally Arthur c1886.

Did any of them emigrate? Any links gratefully received as the family don't seem to have been too hot on record keeping.

With my Great Grandmother, Mollie Howell, 1930 Bolivar Cty., Ms. Census, she is listed there with a teenage Grandson; Wilson Turney. The census is difficult to read unfortunately, however, it looks to be Turney. Ever see a Wilson Turney who seems detached from other Turney's? Thanks for any help.
Mildred

I've just reviewed your worldconnect pages, and believe that my Turney line may be related to yours. My line is William Newton (1884-1938, MD) ->Isaac (1836-1903, PA?, MD) ->Philip, Jr. (1818-?, PA) ->Philip. Philip, Jr. lived in Addison, Somerset, PA in 1850 and 1860 according to the census. He married Polly Mary Catherine. Family history reports that a Caterina or Cristina was an ancestor, perhaps Klingensmith? Hope we can help each other out.

M(annon) Ralph Hooppaw was my great great grandfather. His family came over from Ireland to Charlestown (now Charleston), SC. Then moved westward. Mannon Ralph went to Southern Illinois and his father, Ralph and sister, Elizabeth, went to Tennesee. MR, who was the first sherrif of Alexander Co IL, married Melinda Kennedy. They had David who married Elizabeth Jane Turney (part Cherokee). They had Thomas Harry who married Birdie Grace Hawkins and had my dad George Curry Hooppaw.

Hi Betty!
This is Lindsey (Thom). I posted a similar request a couple weeks ago,but can't find it on line.
Brownstown near Vandalia, IL is where greatgrandma Elizabeth Jane Turney comes from. Her father was a doctor and mother Cherokee. There supposed to be a Cherokee "reservation" there, but I cannot seem to find any mention on Brownstown websites.

Re: Peter Bazel - uncle to Henry Turney b 1753 Maryland

I assume there were 2 Peter Bazel....Sr married Anna Maria Turney born c 1714 and they arrived on same ship as Johannes/John Turney and wife Barbara in 1750.

Peter Bazel Jr. seems to be the one who married Catharina Rubel in 1762. ???? Is that how you read things?

What I am interested in is John Turney - his son Henry Turney born 1753 Maryland. In his Rev War pension request Henry Turney says he was born 1753 Maryland, and at some point the family moved to North Carolina where he was living when he enlisted for Rev War. He died 1838 in Smith Co TN. Around 1780 or a bit later he had moved to TN and married a Martha Lancaster there.

What I am trying to find are records of this Turney family in North Carolina.....to see exactly when Henry Turney by 1753 MD moved from NC to TN.

Now what your info seems to say is: John Turney was dead in Maryland by 1764 leaving his wife Barbara and daughters Margaret and Anna Maria Turney......why is not Henry Turney (b 1753 MD) mentioned?

From Henry's pension request it sounds like the entire family moved to NC while he was still a child....but your info makes me think he moved there sometime after 1764 - most likely with his mother and 2 sisters.....

Perhaps the reason I have not found John Turney in NC records from 1753 to early 1770s is that he actually died in Maryland. Could his widow have remarried? Could son Henry have gone to North Carolina with a step father? He says in his pension request that he had his discharge papers up to the time they were stolen from his father's house in TN. Perhaps he meant his step-father.

This is a really good clue you have given me. John Turney never made it to NC - so I have to figure out who Barbara and her children went to NC with.....and explains why I could not find any info on John Turney in NC.

Mary Turney Miller

Henry Turney born 1753 Maryland, son of Johannes / John Turney and Barbara....family moved to North Carolina, 1780s Henry Turney to Tennessee where he married Martha Lancaster 1788, and second to Nancy Jones, he died in 1838 Smith Co Tennessee.

I have found some info on his uncle Peter Bazel who married Anna Maria Turney b c 1714. They arrived on same ship as Johannes / John Turney in 1750. This Bazel family was in PA, then Maryland, and some ended up near Woodstock VA.

From Maryland German Church Records, Volume 3, Monocacy Lutheran Congregation and the Evangelical Lutheran Church 1742-1779 translated and edited by F.S. That is where Henry lived when he served in Rev. War according to his pension.

Mary
