Dan,

At the end of 2000, my daughter found your message board about wanting information about Emma Turnipseed. At that time I didn't have a computer. I typed off all the information I had on her and her doctor brother Felix and mailed it to you. Since I haven't heard from you, I am wondering if you received the envelop.

My husband Dale is Felix's great grandson. He is an uncle of Julia Quinteros de Hernandez - is her mother's older brother.

Now that I have a computer with a great memory, I am researching on that family. I'm willing to share any information.

I used to speak some German. The German speaking Swiss name was Rebsamen. Loosely translated a Reb or Reub means white beet (turnip) and samen means seed.

I hope that this helps you.

They came from Turbinthal which is near Zurich. When we lived in Germany from July 1970 to May 1974 (my husband was stationed there with the Air Force), we went to Turbinthal 2 different times.

Hi Lisa,

I have a similar research problem re Indian ancestry, and it's possible that it might be the same one as yours. My family is adamant that Frances Louisa Brent was precisely 1/8th Choctaw, and that the Choctaw ancestor was a woman. This is somewhat baffling, since most of her great-grandparents are identified (Mary Magdalena Turnipseed being one of them) and none of them seem likely to have been full-blooded Choctaw. So something is wrong in the story somewhere.

Beat Rebsamen's wife was Margaret Kinsler, thought to have been born in Saxe-Gotha, SC, after 1738. She was the daughter of Hans Kuenzler and Dorothea Gredig, both from Switzlerland. I'm afraid I don't have any info on the line of Beat's son Hans, but maybe someone else reading this will.

it looks like we might be related since mary magdalina was a sister to jesse. im thinking that the indian must come from one of the woman. that is why im looking at women in this line. mary and jesses mother was katherine vogt. wondering if we post a message to the vogt board if well find anything.

Ah, I didn't realize that your Jesse was Mary Magdalena's sister -- I thought yours was a different Jacob, since I have Jacob as the son of Beat, and I thought your Jacob was Beat's grandson? In any case, I have information about Katherine Voight -- she was born 14 Aug 1764 in Bubendorf, Switzerland, the daughter of Michael Voight and Ursula Stohler. She died on 31 Dec 1827 in Fairfield County, SC. Michael Voight was born 11 May 1741 in Bubendorf, and his parents were Hans Jakob Vogt and Brigetta Hug. Ursula Stohler was born 20 Nov 1740 in Bubendorf, and her parents were Hans Georg Stohler and Catharina Giegelmann. I have names going back another generation or so that I can give you if you want them -- email me at alma@sims.berkeley.edu. This stuff comes from research done by my relative Paul Crawford some years back.

I am looking for Nathan Alexander Turnipseed he married Susan Catt (Katt) (Susan was 1/2 Choctaw) 8 Jan 1857 in Lawrence Co., MS. I found Nathan bought land in Pike Co., MS in 1859 and 1861.Susan was the daughter of John Catt and Nancy Strauder Roberts (Choctaw), Susan was born 17 Jan 1828 in MS. I don't have the parents of Nathan. I have nothing on the family of Nathan and Susan.

In my records I have a Nathan A. Turnipseed, born 22 Jul 1816, son of Daniel Turnipseed (1793-1860) and Margaret Scott (1796-1856). His borth is recorded in his parents' family Bible. In this same Bible, it lists his death as 2 Dec 1859. If this is the Nathan Alexander Turnipseed you are looking for, he would have been 41 years old when he married Susan Catt (the marriage record gives her name as Susanah Catt) in 1857. This might suggest a second marriage for him. And, of course, he could not have been buying land in 1861. It is possible that your Nathan Alexander Turnipseed could have been a son of the one mentioned in the Bible. Daniel Turnipseed (b. 1793) was the son of Felix and Harriett Turnipseed. Although Daniel Turnipseed was born in South Carolina, he moved to Alabama about 1835, and died in Pickens County, AL, a number of his children moved on to Mississippi. His children were Nathan A. Turnipseed, Mary Elizabeth Turnipseed, Epsa M. Turnipseed, Emma Melton Turnipseed, Finetta Esaline Turnipseed, Electa E. Turnipseed, Felix Benjamin Turnipseed, Margaret S. Turnipseed, Christian C. Bookter Turnipseed, and Rebecca Ann Frances Turnipseed.
