Eli Turton

Can anyone help please: I've been desperately trying to find a record of death for ELI TURTON circa 1800. We realise that it is virtually imopossible to find a birth record because of the 1837 limit. However; we are pretty certain that he died sometime between 1840 and 1846 when his son's marriage cert classified him as 'dead' However, having exhausted all normal channels-trawling through hundreds of pages of records, I am totally unable to find him. There is a record of an Eli Turton's death in 1849, but it turned out to be an infant death of Eli's grandson.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi

I don't recognise the name, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was related in some way. My grandfather was Frederick Stanley Turton born in 1906 in West Bromwich in Lewisham Road. He also had a brother known as Ernest about whom I know very little (my great uncle)

If your Turton and mine were involved in the same trade you could look among boiler makers, or related trades. I do have details of this my Turton line going back a fair way if Samuel is related.

I had a look on Genes reunited and there is a Samuel listed as born 1904 in West Bromwich. The tree is owned by a Joanne Louise Klein (Member No.2222673)so you could write to her and ask perhaps

Does anyone have any information about a Sameul Ernest Turton, born 1904 in West Bromwich and married in the June 1/4 of 1924 to a Ruth Vowles in West Bromwich. I am trying to help a friend sort out info about him. This is we all we have on him.

Back to the drawing board....I've been trying every which way to find a Birth cert for ELI TURTON B.1800, also, for a Birth cert for his son HENRY TURTON b.29th March 1825. Both of these should be in Birmingham West Midlands. I have spent hours trawling through microfilm at our Central library for these records, to no avail. Anyone out there with any knowledge, please, PLEASE get in touch.

How I agree with you on the number of Turtons there are!! We have been researching Turtons from Birmingham and, lately, Australia!! I don't know if you have tried 'Googling' 'Turton Family'? There is a very comprehensive site belonging to Rob Gaskell who, like us is researching the family.
I don't suppose there will be much to do with your neck of the woods, but, well worth a look anyway. A lot of Rob's Turtons crossed over with my Wife's side of the Turton family and we have gleaned a lot of info from it.

May I say: YOU'RE A STAR!!! ? Don't know which branch of the Turtons you are from, but I think we might just have a lot of information to trade. My Wife's Mother was EDNA OLIVE PRECIOUS (neeTURTON) and her side(extant)contains an aunt ELIZABETH MARIE TURTON and PIERRE TURTON-all of whom are extremely interested in all things Turton.

Based on his occupation of carpenter in the 1901 census, Alfred (brother of Alice?) left the UK from London on 31 Jan 1911 bound for Sydney (via Cape, South Africa).

He is registered as a passenger on board the Commonwealth (master T J Hine) of the P&O Branch Service.

You've probably already got this information but thought every little helps.

Check out Alice M Turton marrying William Henry Tooker in the March quarter of 1918, Kings Norton (Worcestershire), volume 6d, page 93 ~ looks like the match you're after.

Alice May Turton believed to have married a WILLIAM HENRY TOOKER-possibly in the final quarter of 1911? If this is correct, it would have been William's second marriage as his Wife EMMA appears to have died in the first quarter of that year. I have found a record of a marriage for Alice May, but, as yet have been entirely unsuccessful in cross-matching a William Henry Tooker(born in Plymouth 1875)Having already amassed a good number of unrelated certificates, I am loth to send for another one. Anyone therefore, with any knowledge, or family tree matches, please get in touch.

Alfred was born in Birmingham West Midlands in 1884.
Last recorded in Kings Norton. Sometime subsequent-between 1901 and 1911 he emigrated to Australia and vanished from the family radar.Anyone with news, we would love to hear from you.

My ancestor Joseph Turton, was reputedly from a highly respected family in West Bromwich. He was convicted (of stealing money) on 15-1-1831 and transported to Australia for 7 years. At that time he was married to Mary Newey and they had 3 children but he married again in 1846 in Gundaroo, NSW.
His parents were John Turton and Mary Eaves (married 6 Sept 1796 at St Martin's Birmingham) and his grandparents were William J Turton and Elizabeth Smith (married 25 Dec 1752 at St Martin's Birmingham)

I hope these people are parrt of the family you're looking for. Please get in touch again if they are!

Henry Turton was born in Swindon, Wiltshire and married 1.Emily Tucker and 2. Mary Ann Ford.

Hi,
I see that you have a Salvatore Secchi Sanna married in 1927 in one of your trees. However I am not a paid-up member so I can't access the tree.
My grandfather was Salvatore Secchi Sanna born in Sardinia and moved to London at the beginning of the 20th Century. He was a violinist and married a Annie Hammond in 1927. Is he the same man in your tree?

I'm not sure if I have the same Turtons but I thought it may be worth a try, I have a Mary Ellen Turton born 1854 in Hoyland Common, I know that her parents are William Turton and Ann Collis. My problem is that on all the census records WIlliam, born 1827, only says Leeds for his birth place and is no more specific. I have found a William born 1824 son of Thomas (a surgeon) and Mary in Ackworth on the 1841 census and wondered if you could either dismiss him from my search or maybe link him in?
I would love to have a link with Ackworth as my brother has just bought a house there!

I have a Thomas Turton born c1848 in Ackworth who married Elizabeth Mann (from Nottingham). I don't know when he moved to Nottingham but their oldest children Henry/Harry, Thomas, Jane, Frederick, Albert and Gertrude were born there. The youngest John was born in Ackworth, I think they returned to Ackworth between 1889 and 1891.

Do you have any connections ?

Still living with brother Byron and other siblings per 1901 census.
Listed as Mrs. Alice Turton in brother George Delaney's obituary in 1935. Wondering where she lived and what she did after 1901. Main reason for query establishing where in Ireland Delaney family emigrated from, prior to 1823.

Turton James (WA) seeking information on family

I am trying to track the siblings of James Turton ,born to Eliel and Frances(nee Coe), Christened at Old Brampton Derby UK (Primitive Methodist). Arrived in South Australia on the Dorigo in1854 with his wife Ellen. He had brothers Robert( brick maker in NSW) William and Eliel - all recorded in Australi.I have no details of other siblings of James. James worked as a brickmaker and potter in NSW, Victoria, SA and moved with his family to WA in 1885. He established a brickmaking business in WA and went into partnership with F.Piercy from SA. I wish to establish background to Eliel Turton and his wife Frances. James death certificate shows his father to be a potter. Does any one have more information on this family and and other siblings?

Hi I have an Andrew (born 1851) Turton who married Emmeline Knight. He was born in Ackworth - west yorkshire to Charles Turton (1826)and Margaret Ann price. He moved to Nottingham somewhere between the 1871 and 1881 census. i 1861 he was staying with his grandfather in ackworth, in the 1871 he was a servent in wakefield and in 1881 he was at 19 Matlock st nottingham st mary, nottinghamshire.

I am a direct decendent of these two people. You have perhaps talked to my daughter Crystal Dumonceaux. I would like to have a dialog with you to find out more about my background. I only have one uncle left--Clifford Turton and he lives in Brandon, Manitoba. The more information I can get the better because my grandmother never talked about the past and my grandfather passed away before I was born.

Joshua had 3 wives.

1. Ann Sa(u)nders marr Jul 14th 1840 Uxbridge (5 Children)
2. Hannah Coker marr 1858 Uxbridge (no Children)
3. Eliza Paley marr 1861 Strand RD, London (no Children)

In 1871 he was living at 19 Swinbrook Road, Chelsea.
In 1881 he was living at 12 Pratt Street, Lambeth.
In 1891 he was living at 100 Princes Road, Lambeth.

He died in 1892 in Lambeth.

My husband is descended from Joshua's son, Charles Turton born 1843.

One thing though, Charles Turton that married Caroline Palmer was the son of Joshua Turton and the first of his three wives, Ann Sa(u)nders. Charles was born 24 May 1843, and his mother died in 1858.

TURTON'S OF YORKSHIRE

I have a WILFREDA TURTON marrying (late 1840's - early 1850's) to THOMAS HARRISON. They move to Canada and have a son JOSEPH S. HARRISON in around 1856-57. Other children are born in Canada and then the family moves back to England were sons, Philip and Percy are born. In 1881 Census Wilfreda is a widow (children listed with her)

In 1841 Census Wilfreda is a student.

Any hints where I can search for her parents, etc. ?

I just discovered my 3x grandfather Joshua Turton was born est. 1818 in Chilbolton, Hampshire! I can't find anything about him apart from census 1851 and 1861. Do you have any info about him - who were his parents?
