There's not much more information than this.

Anybody done any research?

John
Jacksonville, Florida

It is very interesting that I just ran into this posting and before that was looking at I book I had got while trying to trace my Tuten/Tooten ancestors. It is called Robert Armstrong's Survey Book of Cherokee Lands, 1817. In this book there is a land entry for Willie Tooten and the plat drawing shows it is on Paint Rock Creek and the Tennessee River. It was 640 acres, so it sounds like your (our?) ancestors stayed there. Perhaps Nathanial was Willie's son?
I can trace my lineage to Lydia Tooten (90) in Lewis, Co. TN 1850. If you know of any connections let me know.
Anyway, hope this helps.
Wiley Tuten married Lavina Bailey. They had Wiley Jr, Nancy, Mary, ELiza, and Joseph. No Absolem listed. But it is I suppose possible.

We have an arguement going on over Wiley. Some family suggests he died in a confederate prison (Carthage) in 1863.....but I found John WiIley Tuten in Washington State in 1862 acquiring land near Seattle. Descendants still reside in Washington St. I think he was released from confederate prison and as was the custom.... sworn NOT to take up arms again against the CSA.. He apparently agreed and departed for California....Washington. Had he returned home he would have been forced to return to his military unit therefore breaking his oath. His son John Wiley Tuten was born in 1862 as well in Tenn. He must have left and later brought the family.

Glenn Pratt indicated that he researched a listing of passports which were issued to persons traveling during the years of 1810 or so as people were required to have passports to travel through Indian territory. Around 1810 William Hall Tuten from Barnwell Dist SC was issued a passport to travel with his wife (Mary) & her sister through Creek Indian territory (Alabama & Tennessee). William died in 1817. This must have been a final visit to his son and grandchildren in Alabama.

What kind of documentation did you find to know who Zachariah Tutens father is? Just curious since names of household are the only names on old census. The Zacheus Tutten I found on Roane Co census of Tn, 1830, was between the age of 50 to 60, so he could possibly be my Absolems father. I do not know where the documentation came from that it was Zenna Tutten. I also found Wyley Tutten on the 1830 Roane census and his age was between 40and 50. Are they brothers, Zacheus and Wyley? Possibly?Could Wyley be Absolems father? Hard questions for me.I don't know where to go from here. Does anyone have any answers?

I do know there were other Tutens in Limestone Co area. I live close by. that is why I can do what research I am doing. I work also but I will see what I can find. Also I need to check Marshall Co AL census for 1840 -1860 for other Tutens. It's nice to find someone is interested in the same Tutens I am researching. Although no one can say we don't have a nice little puzzle to put together.

Very Interesting! Zennah Tooten..spelling is same as Zachariah Tuten Jr. "Zach Tooten" in Limestone Ala. He probably is the same as Zannah as he used various spellings for his name. I have tried many times to track the ancient Tuten'e in Alabama and Tennessee but it is very difficult as they used so many spellings and variations of the name....Zachariah Jr. and Sr...names like Riles, Wiley, Zachie, Zachariah, Eli, and Elias all could be Zachariah as our research indicates these Tooten's/Tuten's/Tuetons/Tutins in places that Zachariah was known to have been but records were not clear.

I received from internet source that a Zennah Tooten was my Absolems father. But I have found no documentation. Zennah was not on the 1830 Roane Co census, but he was on the 1840 census. Absolem was married in 1830. However Zennah could be in a near county in 1830. I haven't checked yet.

The only thing I have in my file is a speculative note that suggests Zachariah Tuten son of WIlliam Hall Tuten had a daughter named Elizabeth who was also known as Rebecca Elizabeth Tuten.....she was born in the 1790's. Zachariah Tuten did finally settled in Roane County Tn so there are supporting facts here. Whether REbecca is Elizabeth is really unknown and not supported by any documentation other than a note that is from another geneologist. But the fact that Zachariah was in Roane Count Tenn and having children in the 1790's is a fact, therefore Rebecca is probably one of his daughters if not indeed Elizabeth. Your find certainly supports it!

Yes, I also have that book. No, he is not Nathaniel's father. Nathaniel fught in the Revolutionary War as a soldier in a New Jersey regiment, then came to Roane County, TN ca 1820.I believe the Tuten connection was his 3rd wife.

On 21 june 1825 in Roane County is a marriage between Nathaniel Osborne and Rebecca Tuten. If he is the same Nathaniel Osborne on the 1830 census of Roane Co, then Rebecca would have been born 1770-1780. Since Nathaniel is living with his daughter in 1840 and an older female is not with him and because at his death his daughter certifies that he has no living wife, it would be assumed that Rebecca has died before the 1840 census. Rebecca Tuten would be the 3rd wife of Revolutionary War soldier Nathaniel Osborne. I am trying to verify that this marriage is not a younger Nathaniel that never shows up in Roane County as head of household.
Thanks for any thoughts, helps.

On 21 June 1825, Rebecca Tuten married Nathaniel Osborn in Roane Co, TN. If this is the same family in Roane Co on the 1830 census, and I think it is, then Rebecca was born 1770-1780. Does anyone know who this Rebecca is? I am trying to get the BIG picture on a family that has been hard to research. My line is through Nathaniel and an earlier wife so have done little Tuten research. Nathaniel lived in the area of Roane Co, south of the river and near Paint Rock creek. Thanks for any help!

Zachariah's father is William Hall Tuten b 1735. With some speculation as records are fairly scarce...we make a connection to Benjamin Tutton and can take it back to John Tutton 1569 Wedmore, Somersetshire, England.

I sincerely believe that William and Absolam of North Carolina are brothers but have no supporting data other than name relationships, dates and palces of births of children that tie in, co-existance in same locality or area, migration of children to one anothers areas. There simply is no written record to tie it in.

I only know that son of Zachariah, Obediah was born in 1792 in Limestone Ala. There are about seven sisters that have no birth dates in record though and they could have been born there earlier.
names: Ally, Elizabeth, Levina, Hannah, Kesiah,Telitha.

Zachariah Jrs b. 1793 daughter Talitha b. 1822 (Tabitha) married a Parker. We have some pretty good data on that marriage as we researched the Parker family which is extensive but it gave us no more data on the other Tutens. Tabitha Parker had a son named Zachariah Thomas Tooten Parker b. 1850.

Hi,
You must be Rudy's sister. I had some contact with him a few years ago and we were in St. Augustine and were going to come down to see your parents, isn't your mom's name Pat, but the rental car we had was a dud, and we were afraid to drive it that far. At that time we visited Susie Tuten Hammond and Jerry, then a few months later she had an aneurysm. I hadn't heard if she had died.

Can you send me your email so I can contact you via that? I was in Blackshear about three years ago and did some nosying around, was there for three weeks, and met the Burley Davis (Bertha Davis Tuten) side of the family, and saw some of the photos of her brother who looked just like Harry, and met James Lewis Tuten's sister who was living on Tuten Lane, and my daughter and I were able to go through the old tobacco sheds where Chris Tuten (I think a great Uncle) had thrown out records and stuff, so we got lots of stuff, none of it related to lineage, but interesting none the less. We visited Melbourne, who was in great shape, but senile. He did have some good long term stories though. How did you hear about his death?

I have some photos of that area if you're interested.

Is your name Gail?

Love to hear from you.

My email is: brian.sheila.hight@clear.net.nz
