Tutt DNA testing

I invite any Tutt males who are considering DNA testing for genealogy purposes to go ahead and do it. Here is why. I recently took the Ancestry.com Y-46 DNA test along with another Tutt male. Forty years of thorough, well documented paper research show that we are fourth cousins and that our most recent common ancestor (six generations back) is a James Tutt of Virginia and South Carolina. However, we were stunned when the AncestryDNA results showed that we are not related at all. We are in the same haplogroup (R1b), but match on only 28 of the 46 markers. The AncestryDNA project has assured me that the testing results are accurate and that there was no mixup. Accepting that assurance, we have some serious, and potentially costly, research ahead of us to resolve the matter. It would be helpful to have comparative DNA test results from other Tutt males who know or believe they descend from this Tutt line:

Richard Tutt (parents unknown)(m. Mary Underwood ca. 1703) sons, Richard, William James, Joseph, Benjamin

James Tutt (m. Anne Hansford ca. 1737) sons, Benjamin, James, Richard, Lewis, Gabriel, Hansford

Benjamin Tutt (m. Barbara Stalnaker ca. 1760), sons James, Gabriel, Richard, Benjamin

James Tutt (m2. Mrs. Lucy Wolecon/Wallicon, widow of Daniel, Jr. ca. 1788) sons, Richard, Gabriel H., James B., Clement C.

I descend from James Tutt’s son, Clement C. Tutt, and the other Tutt male who tested descends from James’ son, Richard. I will be glad to discuss this matter and exchange Tutt genealogy info with anyone who is interested.
