Thanks for the reply these wee snippits are interesting. Joseph Twible's grandfather lived in Tamnificarbet about half mile from Carn, outside Portadown. So he must have known your Joseph as a neighbour. The Rev. Vint was minister in 1st Portadwon from 1875-1880, this was actually the church my father attended in his youth and I still have family who belong there. Tamnificarbet was under the landlord, the Duke of Manchester whose main home was in Tandragee a few miles away. Tamnificarbet is a bit of a backwater now but there is a local man Jackie Gilpin who is an histroiarn and has a lot of local knowledge. The occupation of weaver, was common as my family in that area are all the same. Farmers by day and weaving under contract probaly Damask linen at night on their home looms. Linen was important in Co. Armagh, my father and grandfather worked in lined and my mother uncle, Joseph Twible's son owned a lined finishing and hemstitching company, edging hankerchefs and table cloths etc.
I would love to see a copy of the marriage certificate.

I ma attaching a map of Tamnificarbet.

Hi,
Thanks for your detailed reply. I have 2 original written copies of the marriage for Joseph & Jane written by Robert Vint BD Minister. They married on 2 day of November 1876 First Presbyterian Church Portadown, County Armagh. I also have the civil marriage record from Irish Family History Foundation. I am having a bit of trouble with my scanner, but I will scan both for you and forward them to you soon. In the meantime I can tell you That both Joseph and Jane were previously unmarried, and both full age (over 21) Joseph's address is given as Tanniffacarbett (sic) Parish Seagoe and Jane as Lisniskey Parish of Seagoe. Joseph was a Labourer, his father was George Hawthorn, occ Weaver. Janes father was William Graham also a weaver. From family papers Janes mother was Rachel Gray, and Joseph's mother was Mary Ann. Jane always gave her bithplace as Co. Armagh, and Joseph as Co. Down.
Their first child was named Annie Rachel.
I take it the photo is of Joseph Twible?
Hello thanks for writing, great to get the ocassional hits. Joseph Twible was my mother's grandfather, he died in 1939. He was for many yaers the post master of Aghacommon outside Portadown but in 1876 was living in the townland of Carn near Portadown. What is interesting is that when he remarried in 1887 to my great grandmother he was a widower. But I cannot find a record and no one knew who his first wife was I never found it in the death registers. I wonder if he had some othe connection with this wedding other than friendship? Here's a wild guess that Joseph Hawthorne was a brother in law, butit has given me a line to follow. Where was the wedding? could you tell me please.

Hi
I am interested in finding a Joseph Twible who was a witness to the marriage of Joseph Hawthorne to Jane Graham in Portadown Nov. 1876. The other witness to the marriage was Rachel Shilcock. (Silcock).
Thanks
Framoss

My ancestors were Francis Power and Alice Twibill, who came to the US between 1817 and 1819 (based on the birthplaces of their children recorded in the family bible). They were married 14 April 1813 in the "Ireland, Co. Francis and William witnessed each others' wills and were evidently close.
If anyone has any information, please contact me at margaretrutledge@earthlink.net.
Thank you..

Hi katie

I am always greatful to get replies as I have really come to the limit of information sources apart form other people. I live near Belfast where the Public records office is and as far as I can find I am nearly at the limit. I have reconsructed a family tree for the county monaghan Twibills and have them in ged.com files if you like I could send them to you. I did the research for a friend in New Zealand to see basically if I was related to him, but I never found a connection between these Twibills and our own family even though only 40 miles distant.

Yes there is a grave in the Church of Ireland in Castleblayney Co. Monanghan of Munday Twibill and Matthew Munday is buried in another graveyard in the county. I have photos of these.

Let me know how I can help you.

Geoff

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I must've unticked the little box that sends alerts when someone replies to a thread.

So far I've found very little on the internet about the family, but I think you mentioned in another thread that you found a gravestone of someone called Munday Twibill. I assume this is someone from my lot because one of Williams sons was called Matthew Munday Twibill - it's just a case of trying to work out how everyone fits together!

Katie
I am also descended from William Twible. I am also trying to trace him before 1822. I can't find the Minerva arriving in 1822, but there is an arrival 16/12/1821. I have been told that he did go to WA in 1826 as a marine to assist in establishing king George Sound. Trying to do some investogation in this area. It would be good to have even a county from Britain that may help with the searching.

Hi there thanks for your reply I am still active in family history and was up today at the record office. I am living in Ireland and have not yet proven the link between the Castleblaney Twibills and our own, but I have in the process done a good bit of research on the Monaghan Twibills. They are the forebears of the Canadian and New York families which all adds to the confusion. If I can be of any help or you want photos of the graves etc. let me know.

Geoff

I was born Nancy Twibell. My father, Sam B. Twibell is from E. Texas, and knew that his family was from Indianna. While my sister and I were in college in Spokane, we found an Anthony Twibell in the phone book and his aunt had traced the Twibells back to John Twibell, the revolutionary war, and Monahan Co., Ireland. (I don't know the right spelling.) He had 13 children, but only two surviving male children who had kids, so that part of the family only comes from the two brothers. I have a copy of her (the aunt's) geneology. I know nothing about further back.

My mother is a Twibell, daughter of Lloyd Jay Twibell. We are from the Ireland/England Twibells that moved from old Virginia to Indiana, and then some went to Kansas. My grandfather raised his 5 children in Orchard Nebraska, where two daughters still live and also 2 cousins in the area. My grandfather's father is buried in Kansas I believe.

Twibell DNA Study - Summer 2006

To male Twibells (and spelling variants) I am a UK forensic scientist working in a university dept and we have a student project to look at Y chromosome DNA. Y chromosomes are passed from father to son and thus every male carrying the name ought to have the same Y chrom DNA. ( mutations may occur every few generations and there may have been some bed hopping). I am looking for males willing to give a small blood sample ( on a special paper which can be dried and posted) to take part in the study.

There are 2 main branches in UK originating in Yorkshire in mid 1500s. Most of present UK folks are from these. Some spelling variants appear to have arisen in Rotherham/Sheffield. The USA branch believe that they came from Ireland, but probably went to Ireland from Yorks. I need contacts in USA and other countries, and in UK I need contact with descendants of the Barnsley branch who may now be living in Cheshire region. If anyone is willing please could you E-mail me? A study like this could show that we are all linked.

Please note that this work has nothing to do with any National DNA database. It is a different type of DNA and we have no contact with the UK database.

Geoff,

I tried to converse with you direct but I was blocked. I have lots of information regarding the main graveyard where the TWIBIll/TWYBELL/TWIBELL/TWIBLE/TWYBILL family are buried. The family graveyard. How can we converse, any ideas?

I can go back to 1729 with the Castleblaney family. I had a chance meeting some years ago with a William TWIBILL who is a direct descendant of the William TWIBILL that I mentioned in my last message. Guess what?? His son is also called William.

Darryl

Thankyou for replying to my posting, I have done fairly extensive research n the county Monaghan Twibills/Twibles and have traced many of them in the pattern of emmigration, it has been quite a job to extract the families from one another. but I have not come across a James in the Castleblayney group, so please I would love to hear from you.

Geoff Allen county Fermanagh N.
Hi Geoff,
I know this is an old thread but I'm descended from the Csatleblaney Twibills, specifically James Twibill b.1808 in Castleblaney (one of five brothers mentioned in another thread).
I recently found out their fathers name was William (not helpful, I know!) and his profession was "gentleman". I'm not 100% sure how one qualifies as a gentleman, but I think it's usually inherited money from somewhere in the family...perhaps landowners?

Wondering if anyone has the following people in their tree...

Arthur Warren Twibill, married Eliza Letitia (maiden name unknown). They had 4 children: William Arthur Twibill, Arthur Stanley Twibill, Reginal Twibill (who died in WW1), and Ivy Maude Twibill (who married Charles Francis Adams.

Arthur Stanley married someone called Violet and had two children called Anthony and Jean.

Eliza Letitia remarried after Arthur died (I think in 1904) to someone whos last name was Waight or Waite, and had two more children: Daisy Waight and Albert Waight. The Waight family at some point in the 1800s owned a pub (and neighbouring bakery) in Bognor Regis.

I am also looking for the connection back to England. When I went to Ireland, The Historical Research Ctr. gave me information that there were Twibells back in the17th century in Yorkshire England. They spelled their names Twibill, Twybell and Bell. In my info. from here it did say that John's father was in the English military. A lot or most of the birth records in Ireland were destroyed, and there is conflictiing information as to where he was born either Monahan county or Cork. I am looking for the same ancestor.
