Why is Tyacke spelled without the E?

I am researching my tree and notice that in the 1700's the E suddenly appeared on the end of TYACK. Does anybody know why?

I live in Australia but am planning to travel to the UK in the next few years. Are there any Tyackes in Cornwall who are keen to tell me some Tyacke stories?

I think I have the 3 brothers that came from England. I have one of their descendents going to Grass Valley CA. That is a big Cornish site.

Mary E Tyacke(?)

About 1882, a woman named Mary E [?] married Jacob Erpenbeck. In 1882, they had a son they named Harry Tyacke Erpenbeck. I suspect Tyacke is Mary's maiden name (or perhaps her mother's maiden name), but have no proof. All I know about her is that she was born (according to the 1900 census) in Sep 1860, in either Maryland or DC.

I would appreciate any assistance...
Patti
