I actually made a mistake, it was Bridget Tynan, NOT Margaret, I should have been referring to. Late night too many names. Glad you were able to dig deeper in your research. If there was a Bridget in your research that would have fit let me know, thanks for the reply.

Thank you for your reply. The Margaret Tynan in my family never married. Since posting this message I have been able to do extensive research on all family members and identify the village in Tipperary from which the emigrated. Good luck with your own research.

I know of a Margaret Tynan who married a Patrick Delaney. Had at least 2 daughters, Anne Delaney (b1774 Troy) and Mary Delaney (b1881 place unknown, most likely Troy) Names were from family bible from Anne's daughters wedding in 1928. Anne Delaney Married Edward J Murphy near (or in) Troy about 1896 and had 5 children. Mary never had any children. I haven't been able to find any source information about Margaret Tynan or Patrick Delaney though.

Their daughter, Margaret, is said to have married Bernard Kearney, who is said to have been the son of my great-great-great grandfather Bernard (a.k.a. Barney) Kearney (also spelled "Carney" sometimes, back then), and had one daughter, Elizabeth Kearney, born February 17th 1869.
John Tynan and his wife are both buried in Sturgeon, PEI. I have the dates of their deaths.
There seems to be a bit of a mystery, as my g-g-g grandfather, in his will dated Jan. 9th 1867 (the day he died) leaves some animals to "my granddaughter Margaret Tynan, upon her marriage ..."
I'd be happy to discuss and exchange any info you have.

Tynan/Tivnan

Hi, I'm actually looking into more of my Tynan family. I've found so much of my Tivnan family, but I get stuck with my great grandfather. His name was Dr. Joseph Patrick Tynan (born 1884 died between the 1950s or 60s) married to Katherine G. Tivnan (from galway ireland). They had 5 children. My great grandfather was from Leix or kings county, Ireland but resided in Boston, MA. I do know he had a father named John Tynan. I also know my great grandfather was a nurse when he came to the states then became a doctor. He fought in WWI after he came to the states. He came over in 1900 and became a citizen in 1906. He married his wife in the 1910s had his first child in 1918. I know so much about him from when he stepped on American soil on so on but nothing before. It's like he fell from the sky.

Dr. Joseph Tynan's children names were/are Joseph Kevin Tynan (deceased), John "Doc" Tynan (deceased), Robert Emmett Tynan, Sabrina Alfonso, and Patricia Springs

If anyone can help, it would mean so much! I've lost a lot of family lately and I would love to get in touch with some in Ireland. There was talk around the family here that we have some family in Dublin nowadays if that helps.

John Tynan b. Ireland d. 1905 Kansas

Unknown Man Killed [John Tynan]

An unknown man, supposed to be a tramp, was struck by a freight train at Burrton this morning and instantly killed.

The accident happened about nine o'clock. The man started to cross the track about an hundred yards west of the depot and was struck by the engine and knocked to one side and killed. It is thought that his back bone was fractured, as the wheels did not pass over him and there did not appear to be any bad cuts. Sheriff Blanpied happened to be in Burrton at the time and he was immediately notified. He had the body removed to the freight house at the Burrton station and then called up Dr. L. F. Abbey, county coroner, and told him of the affair. The coroner left immediately in a buggy for the scene of the accident and will investigate and possibly empanel a jury and hold an inquest this afternoon. In the hasty examination he made, Sheriff Blanpied did not find anything on the person of the dead man to indicate his name or his place of residence. Some of the Burrton people believe the man was mentally unbalanced, as his actions while around the depot last night were very queer and were commented on by those that saw him. Color to the theory is lent by the careless manner in which he exposed himself to danger by crossing the track with the train so near him. The coroner's investigation will doubtless bring to light other and more definite details.

The Evening Kansan-Republican, Monday 10 July 1905. Page 1.
------------------------------------------------------------
Probably Insane

Coroner F. L. Abbey spent yesterday at Burrton investigating the case of the stranger who was killed by a Santa Fe freight train yesterday. From letters and papers found about his clothing his name was determined to be John Tynan and the naturalization papers he carried showed that he had come to this country from Ireland, September 1902. he was a young man, had light hair, blue eyes, a red moustache, was five feet nine inches in height and weighted 150 pounds. He was dressed in a pair of corduroy trousers, a black coat and blue vest and wore a coarse black hat. The first that he was seen at Burrton was at the depot Sunday night when the attention of the night operator was called to him by his crying and praying and singing. The burden of his prayers seemed to be a wrong he had committed in the old country for which he could not get forgiveness. He talked all night and could not sleep. The day operator noticed him after he went on duty but not so particularly as did a section hand who found him lying with his head across the track at a switch near some freight cars standing there. He was told to get up and did so and asked where he could find a Catholic priest and was told to go to Halstead. About nine thirty in the morning yesterday an extra freight with M. A. Arabright as conductor and Will Blatchley engineer, passed Burrton going west. The young man was standing at the south side of the track and could not be seen after the train neared him but after the train had passed the fireman looked back and saw the man lying there. He was found to have been knocked down by the train and had a cut across one thigh, his neck had been broken and a bruise on his forehead indicated that it had been pressed against something, presumably a rail. He had no money about his person, no valuables, and only a few letters one from Ireland telling of his folks at home and one from L. E. Boker of Mechanicsville, New York who it is judged from the letter was a former employer. From accounts and scribblings on the books and papers he was found to have been an excellent penman but nothing was there to account for his mental disturbance. There seemed to be no reason for an inquest so Dr. Abbey turned the body over to the undertaker with instructions to keep it as long as possible awaiting some word from those who were notified by wire by the coroner who sent messages to the addresses found. Dr. Abbey was inclined to the opinion of suicide rather than accident judging largely by the testimony of the section hand. Up until noon today no word had been received from the parties wired.

The Evening Kansan-Republican, Tuesday 11 July 1905. Page 1.
------------------------------------------------------------

It Looks Like Suicide

Engineer Will Blatchley called upon Dr. Abbey this morning and left his statement concerning the death of John Tynan at Burrton Monday which more than ever gives the affair the appearance of suicide.

He said as he was passing the place where they had seen the man the train was not going more than three miles an hour when the cylinder plugs pulled out and he could not pull them back again easily. His fireman asked what they had struck and he answered a rock probably. As soon as they had passed over the obstruction there was no more difficulty and on looking back they saw the dead body lying by the side of the track. The head had the appearance of having been caught between the forehead and the back of the skull and it looks very much as though the unfortunate man had tried to throw himself with his head on the rail but had just missed it. The friends who have been notified have wired that the dead man has relatives in Buffalo and in Ireland but that their names are not known so the undertaker at Burrton has received instructions to give the body burial there.

The Evening Kansan-Republicah, Wednesday 12 July 1905. Page 1.
------------------------------------------------------------

Can Hardly Believe

Relatives of John Tynan Hoping Against Hope

Coroner F. L. Abbey heard yesterday from Tullamore, Ireland, where he had written the relatives of John Tynan who was killed by the cars at Burrton concerning the death of the unfortunate man. The reply came E. J. Tynan, a brother, who was hoping against hope that the papers might be on the person of some one else than his brother and inclosing a vignette which he said was an excellent likeness of his brother. He said that he was aware of his brother's roving disposition but hoped that the coroner's information might be a dreadful mistake and had refrained from telling their mother and sister until he should hear again. The picture only confirms the decisions arrived at by Dr. Abbey and he is doing all that he can to make the hard news easy to bear.

The Evening Kansan-Republican, Saturday 05 August 1905.

Transcribed by Darren McMannis for the Harvey County Genealogical Society & Burrton Historical Museum

Al Tynan - 1906 - Arizona

He struck on the rocks about eight feet below, cutting his head and arms severely, and probably injuring his spine very seriously. The attending physician says it will require some time before the extent of the injury to Tynan’s back can be ascertained.

I have an interest in Isaac Huron Burns, who died in Allendale, Bergen, NJ in 1943. He was born around 1855, probably in NY and I've traced him in Manhattan between 1880-1890 and then Brooklyn (ca 1890-1920). He married Josephine Zeller (b. NJ) around 1880 and they had a rather large family. In census, he usually gave his parental POBs as Ireland.

I have not seen a death or marriage record that might reveal ancestry. Thanks to inconsistencies, I have not been able to identify him in census prior to 1880, though I have a vague hunch who his parents were.

Isaac's wife passed away in Brooklyn in 1920 and by 1930 he was living in Allendale with a sister whose name is given as Alice B. Tynan. Can this be the Anna B. in your posting? The 1930 census also understates his age by 5-6 years and gives parental POBs as NY.

If Anna = Alice, things might come into better focus.

Am excited about the prospect of exchanging more information, particularly if you receive a response from George Dorman (as he and I are the same generation descended from John Charles and Winifred). His mother and my mother were cousins unknown to each other, and BOTH were named Winifred after their grandmother Tynan. BTW, on your Hout family tree you have Tynan misspelled on your entries for Winifred Ann and John Charles (Tynam); and you entered a date of death under John Charles that is actually John Augustus (11/1963) due to the confusing way I wrote it in my response. More later.

My sister and I have just begun doing some research on various branches of our family. The Tynan/Keenan side is a challenge because both my grandmother and mother have been dead for a long time. So I am working off of "scraps" of information I recollect from things they mentioned many years ago and experimenting with sources such as census records. One difficulty is the inaccuracy and inconsistency of those records from decade to decade (plus the absence of 1890 records). As best I know at the moment, John Charles Tynan and Winifred F. Keenan married around 1885 in the Troy, NY area. They had five children: Joseph Charles (born 3/1886), John Augustus (born 8/4/1887), Thomas W. (born 12/1888), Mary Winifred (my grandmother, born 10/10/1891), and Frances (born 10/1893). Winifred died when my grandmother was about 12 (probably 1903 or 4). John Charles remarried in 1912. I found Joe and Tom's WWI draft records but none for John Augustus (the family called him Gus). The 1930 census transcription has the middle initial "O" in error. If you look at the original record, you can look at the handwriting and see that it could just as likely be an "A". Any info on their children?

The John Tynan you are refering to was my grandmother's older brother. John Augustus (Gus) Tynan, born Troy, NY 8/4/1887; second child/son of John Charles Tynan (born Ireland abt. 1854, emmigrated abt. 1866) and Winifred F. Keenan (born Ireland abt. 1858, emmigrated abt. 1868). I also found the 1930 census you are referring to and knew by the names of the children that he was the "lost" brother I had been searching for: daughter Winifred named for his mother and son John C. for his father. SSDI shows he died 11/1963 somewhere in the state of NY. Can you tell me anything about Anna M. Hout, his wife?

Hi Michele,
Have you had any luck? The highschool keeps records of alumni addresses for class reunions - perhapse they would be willing to help. Even if they will not give an address, you could hand a stamped envelope to them and ask the staff to write his address on the envelope and mail it for you. I am a 1985 graduate of Interboro.

David
