Looking for male descendents of Benajah or Norton to take DNA test, I will pay for test done by family tree DNA project. My DNA test comes back with a Tyrrell connection. My father was born in Schroon Lake.
Edenderry, Ireland Tyrrell's

My g-grandfather Edward Gerald Tyrrell (20 Feb 1876 in Edenderry - 1947 in Canton, Massachusetts, USA) came to Boston about 1900. He married Cecelia Frances Joyce, who came from Ireland about the same time, about 1901. Edward's brother James Patrick Tyrrell came about 1904. James listed his father as James Patrick as well and family stories indicate James Sr had married an O'Brien (? Mary or Elizabeth). James, Jr went back to Ireland and died in about 1957. I know my grandfather George Thomas signed away rights to a family castle in the 1930's. I am interested any additional lineage or info. Thank you.

Hi Ray! Thanks for your reply!

Thats really interesting information - We are intrigued to find out more. From my info see http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_start.php the Griffth's Valuation was published between 1847-1864.

We have found a little more out about William since I last posted and have copied and pasted below:

On 21st of February 1847, William Tyrrell baptised to Samuel Tyrrell and Mary McCabe of Cardiff‘s Bridge. The Godparents were James and Margaret McCabe.

We also think we've found his brother, see below baptism:

On 16th of February 1845 James Tyrrell baptised to Samuel Tyrrell and Mary McCabe of Cardiff’s Bridge. The Godparents were John Tyrrell and Bridget Cullen of Cardiff’s Bridge.

William's birth date gets a little muddled later in life so it may still be him in the Metropolitian Police - But definately not if it is after 13/01/1868 as he'd joined the army by then. Interesting there are no Tyrrell's recorded as buried in Blanchardstown - Not sure of their religious beliefs so perhaps they are Catholic or another?!

Any more details would be greatly recieved!

Best Regards, Nick Bryant

William Tyrrell (b: 1794 in poss. Ireland) - Irish, Sheffield and Birmingham Tyrrells

I'm searching for ancestors of William Tyrrell, born in 1794. His birthplace is probably Ireland, seeing as his son Daniel Tyrrell was born in Dublin, Ireland.

I don't have much information on William, but I know that his son Daniel was born in about 1818 in Ireland and eventually moved over to Sheffield, England at some point.

Daniel married a woman called Janet West (b: abt 1823). I think Janet is Scottish but I'm not sure.

Daniel had a son called Joseph Tyrrell (b: 1841 in Sheffield, England - d: 1886 in Birmingham, England), who married Charlotte Hadley (b: 1843 - d: 1913)

Any information would be a lot of help.

We are reseaching:

William (Walter - Might be adopted name) Tyrrell (1846-1913).

Bn - btw 1844 - 1848 Blanchardstown (Castleknock area near Dublin), Ireland
Dd - 16/04/1913 Cambridge, England
Md - 27/02/1877 in Colchester to Emma Robinson (died 1935).

Children -
1878 (Alderney, Channel Islands) - William Alfred
1880 (Ireland) - Ethel L
1882-1946 (Ireland) - James
1884-1953 (York) - Samuel
1885 (Pontefract) - Alexander
1886-1920 (Pontefract) - Benjamin
1889-1972 (Reach, Cambs) - Earnest
1892 (Cambridge) - Elsie
1894 (Cambridge) - Frank
1899-1968 (Cambridge) - Thomas.

Father - Samuel Tyrrell (Profession - Hardware).
Profession: Clerk, Army (13/01/1868 - 31/01/1889 - End rank Colour Sergeant 105th Foot), Custodian of Free Library.

This chap was a really colourful fella! I have further details including his army service record, which makes interesting reading!

Our real interest is trying to trace the family ancestry through Ireland, which we are just beginning. We think that we have found a Samuel Tyrrell on the Griffins Valuation 1847 & 1849 in the Castleknock area in County Dublin, which ties in well with Williams birth place, but have only just started...

Any information greatly recieved! Would also be fantastic to touch base with any distant family relations!

Nick Bryant

I suggesr that you look for your family with other spellings of the name. There are two other spellings; Terrell, and Tirrell. It is all the same family, however variations occur. The name is usually associated with County Meath, and County West Meath, both of which are in Ireland. My James may very well have been from there. He probably came to America during An Gorta Mor (the great hunger). I hope this helps you.

I have not really done too much research into the family, as I have not been able to get past New Jersey, so cannot make a direct link to any existing Tyrrells on the east coast. My family runs strongly to James, Robert, and William, mostly with a middle name of Edward, so I have looked for others with similar names. My time frame is born in 1953, with two sisters.

Their only child to reach adulthood was a daughter, Mary Elizabeth. My james worked for a railroad. 3 sons are buried with Mary Ellen. Does any of this make fit into your time line?

I know it has been many years since you posted about Hiram Tyrrell. My great-grandmother was Elizabeth Tyrrell. Hiram was her second husband and they had a son, Solon. Solon had several children, including Roger. Elizabeth's first husband was Frederick Meyers; their son Russell was my grandfather. After Hiram died, Elizabeth married Herbert Bryden. I haven't been able to trace Elizabeth back any farther--I am pretty sure she was born in Canada--they moved to Detroit, where she spent the rest of her life.

If you are still researching or have any additional info, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks, Mary

Looking for ancestors of William Tyrrell (born 1794) and a question about Walter de Tirel

Does anyone have any information on him? I assume he's from Ireland because his son Daniel Tyrrell (born 1818) was born there. I can't find any information on him whatsoever. How would I go about trying to find information?

And secondly, do all the Tyrrells go back to Walter de Tirel and the Dukes of Normandy? That's what I read somewhere and I just want to verify it.

Gosh, this is about 8 years after your post. We'll see of you even read this. I am a 29 year old descendent from a Tyrrell family, originally in Canada. My father (Robert James Tyrrell) was born in 1945 in Ontario. His father was Walter James Tyrrell, but was put up for adoption sometime between 1915-1921. No information is known about his birth parents, except the last name. If you have any information, I would greatly appreciate it. My father and both his parents have passed, so I have nowhere to look for answers. Thanks so much.
Re: Timothy Tyrrell, Berkshire, England

Timothy's father was Richard Tyrrell. Richard was Baptised in Harwell, 04 May 1788 (date taken from Harwell records as supplied on Micro fiche from the Oxfordshire Family history Society.)
Richard married Charlotte Pether on 21 Mar 1815. Charlotte was baptised in Hagbourne on 23 Feb 1794. (I have still to read my micro fiche for Hagbourne and double check these dates. I do not have a Micro fiche reader, but rely on the library, so am a bit slow.)
Richard was the only son of Timothy Tyrrell bap Abt. Jul 1750 in Harwell (Have checked on MF ) and Maryweather Heaton.
I am interested in the Angers as well. The name Anger has been carried on in later generations.

When I have the exact link I will let you know what I ha\ve discovered.

Linda
