Hello, I don't know if you still visit this site, but, I recently discovered that my family originated in Uder, Germany. I'm trying to locate information about a St. Jacobus Church there, but I can find no record of it's existance. I know that members of my family were baptozed there in the mid 1800s. Is there any way you can help me?

Thank you.....Bill Biel

I would like to know if the village of Uder is where the surname originated. As in other countries, most of the people in the village were named the same related or not. Any info on this village would be appreciated.
BARRCM@prodigy.net

I have visited the village in the former east Germany. it is east of the city of Kassel along a direct line to Leipzig. It is a small very nice village of about 3,000 people. A search of the web will tell you more and has some pictures.

Malaina, it was good to get your message. My father was Robert Andrew Uder. Eduard was his father. My mom Verdine has been in touch with Betty Uder who has been researching the family, all the information that i have came from her. Living so far from any family we grew up not knowing much about my dad's relatives. My brother was at a family reunion when he was at college but that was at least 15 years ago.......
i have been researching my moms side of our family, which has been easy, they settled the area around where we live in in Salem Or, and were preachers so there is quite abit on them, besides she remembers a lot her parents told her. My dad never talked much about his family, except that his parents had died when he was young. He was a wonderful father and loved us kids. He died of cancer when i was 20. i will clean up my information on the family that lives here and send it to you if you would like. My email address is cjewellj@aol.com if you would like to email me direct. it would be great to hear from you. My mom lives with me and i was going to take her to the reunion this last fall but she is had a stroke at Easter and then had to have an operation on her shoulder this fall so we were unable to make it.......any way i would love to hear from you.............Carole

Uders

Hello :)
My family has been working on a family tree and would love any information you have. My Great-Aunts are actually the ones doing it. We put out a cookbook a few years back and in the front of I is a photo of wha is thought to be the 1st Uders in the US. My aunts (somehow) have a copy of the ships manifest that they were on. Here is what I have.... Ludwig Wilhelm Hemrutts Notta (Riechel) Uder arrived in New York on Sept. 23, 1867, destination Ohio, on The D.H. Waerjen from Bremen Germany. They arrived with their children: Eliese, Friedrich, Auguste, Henriette, Emielie, Eduard and Anna. (per manifest)
Ludwig was born 08-24-1818 in Poehlde, Hanover, Germany. He died 01-09-1881 at the age of 62 years, 4 months, 15 days at Belleville Ill.
Hemrutts was born in 1823 in Germany. That is all I know about her, I don't have a birthplace or date of death.

I hope this helps. :)
And please, don't judge the rest of us by the other poster, she married my uncle (who isn't all that great) but the rest of us are O.K. :)(Do unto others... )
