Sophia R. Ul, age 89, of Erie,Pa,
died, Friday, March 5, 2010 at Hamot Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Waterford, Pa. on October 20, 1920, the daughter of Michael and Sophia KaminskiOblinski. She was a graduate of Waterford High School, Slippery Rock College and Edinboro University. Sophia was a member of St. Julia Roman Catholic Church where she was a past member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a health and physical education teacher for 20 years at Strong Vincent High School, Villa Elementary School, and Westminster Jr. High in Millcreek. She also coached basketball, was a very good bowler, enjoyed boating and was a past member of the Power Squadron Women's Auxiliary. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Henry F. Ul, in 1992, three sisters, Eugenia Oblinski,
and Sybil Setcavage;
and three brothers, Mitchell, Gustave and James J. Oblinski.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Fourspring and her husband Donald, of Edinboro, Susan Roche and her husband Timothy and Judith Taylor and her friend/ Greg, all of Millcreek; a son, Mark Ul and his wife Chris, of Springboro;
and a sister, Martha Setcavage, of Pittsburgh, Pa.
She is further survived by eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren with three on the way. Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th St. at Powell Avenue on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer service there Tuesday at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Julia Roman Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Private burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
