DoD Identifies Marine Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Robert D. Ulmer, 22, of Landisville, Pa., died June 5 as a result of a non-hostile incident in Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune N.C.

The incident is under investigation.

For additional background information on this Marine, news media representatives may contact the II Marine Expeditionary Force public affairs office at (910) 451-7200.

Hello My Ulmers were living in Prussia, Ilow Poland. They had originated from Wuertemburg, which is now part of Germany. They had left Wuerttemburg about 1790 and moved to Poland as part of the great call by Catherine the Great to settle Russia & Prussia with German Settlers. I organised that reunion 26 years ago and would like to make contact with you. John Ulmer pork butcher from Ulm was my great Great grandfather. When and how did he, and his brother arrive in Australia? I too visted Ulm in June 2006. I was unaware that John had a brtoher who also emigrated. The earliest record I have of John is the fact that he was in tasmania in 1838 when he married his first wife Anne Hardy. He later married Birdget Muse. His thrid marriage was to Bridget Byron who was my great great grand mother. John died in about 1880. His morther was Boulgar and father Georg. That's all I know.

Hope I am not changing the subject but my wife is an Ulmer from South GA. We are trying to find out where Jane Ulmer Huber, her gg grandmother, is buried. We believe it is somewhere around Tallahassee, Fl. We would like to take pictures etc.
Does anyone have any information about this.
(I have been through the Ulmer-Huber-Bird papers now located in the FSU library. I couldn't find a clue there)

Marsha, I'm so sorry that so much time has passed since we were working on this. You said in a message back in March 2006 that you had much more info about the family. I would love to share with you. My brother and I went to Vernon at this time last year (2007) and visited some of the cemetaries and took pictures of some of the family headstones. Unfortunately, about the only family that we know are gone except for Eleanor Howell. She is a great source of info as she's lived in Vernon all her life. As you know, we are related and that's very exciting to me. If you ever hear of a reunion, please let me know. I )and my brother) would attend.

I'm getting back into this after 6 years so forgive me as I catch up. I believe this is the Ulmer side of my family as well.
I have a pedigree chart listing Charles Ulmer married to Kesiah Wilkins in 1809 in Chatham, GA. Their daughter was Sarah Ann born 1812 or thereabouts.

Julia maybe Ulmer, b. SC 1875, m. Blount

Looking for Julia Ulmer, second wife of my husband’s great grandfather, Miles Blount (Blunt). In the 1900 census for Sycamore, District 26 (Ulmer / (Ulmers Twp), Barnwell Co. SC, they have been married zero years. Julia was born August 1875. She and her parents were born in SC. Also in the HH is Miles’ sister in law, Jennie, born 1885. Jennie’s last name looks like ??lmer. The first two letters may be one letter, so maybe Ulmer?? That would probably be Julia’s maiden name.

In 1910, Miles and Julia Blount are living in Bamberg, Bamberg Co., SC. They have been married 11 years. Their surname is transcribed as Blomer, but there’s no doubt in my mind that these are the same folks.

In 1919 Miles was in Cordesville, SC, when he filed for a Civil War pension. He lived to 1923, but I don’t find him in the 1920 census, and there is no trace of Julia Ulmer. She had no children that we know of, and she totally disappeared from family oral history.

Could her father have been Samuel E. Ulmer, b. 1855, living Great Cypress, Barnwell Co., SC, in the 1880 census? There is a Julia of the correct age, as well as sisters Jane and Lizzie. A sister Jennie would not yet have been born.

I hope someone will know what happened to Julia. Thanks for any help. Liz

A Harriet Ulmer is shown in "Our Ulmer Heritage". She was born in 1801, and has an older brother Adam, born in 1795, but their father is Henry.

Hello. I am researching my husband's ancestor's and he is of the Adam Ulmer line. Did he have a daughter name Harriot? If so, does anyone have any additional information they would be willing to share? I have very little, and what I've found gets very confusing and the records between races tend to blur in the early 1800s. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Ludwig,46 and Dorothy, 42, and 6 children came to NY in Fulda from Bremen arriving April 13, 1885. His father Jacob,(Johan Jakob) 58 and mother Christina 50, and children Wilhelm 17, Louise 19, and Carl 15 came in 1874 on the Schiller from Hamburg to NY. Jacob's father was Matthaus Ulmer b 1760, d 1824 and his mother was Veronica Barbara Groll. They were from Klein Ingersheim, in Germany. Matthaus father and mother wereJohan George Ulmer and Maria Margareth Schleicher and Veronica's parents were Zacharias Groll and Catherine Barbara Binder. Jacob's wife Christina surname was Breiner or Bremer.

Nelson Ulmer, b.abt 1875, son of Plummer/Alice, lived Penobscot Co., ME

I have an original postcard photograph of “Captain Nelson Ulmer”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1910, and he looks to be about age 35.

I found Nelson Ulmer in the 1910 census for Hampden (Penobscot Co.) ME, as a widower, living with his parents Plummer and Alice Ulmer, and with them were his sons Clarence, Walter and Ralph Ulmer. Nelson’s occupation was “Captain on a Sailing Vessel”.

2 Ulmer brothers migrated to Australia 19th century

My husband's great grandfather and his brother migrated to southern Australia in the 1800s from Ulm, Germany. They were both pork butchers and probably migrated to escape religious persecution. I know they eventually settled in western Victoria. My husband attended a family reunion about 26 years ago and said the Ulmer side of the family was very obvious with their striking red hair.
We will be going to Ulm in August 2008 and would love any further family history to follow.

my great grandfather David Webster Ulmer of Mississippi. His father was Henry Ulmer and I understand he was the son of one of 5 brothers that came from Ulm Germany. Three names are Roland, Lee and Vee.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There is a reunion of S.C. Ulmers (John to Lewis to Adam to Lewis Cylvester) that used to be held in Orangeburg, SC every summer. However, the organizer has since passed away, and I am not sure if it continues.

Henry Ulmer, son of Johann Michael Ulmer and Helen Marie Hilskeler, married Augustine Schneider 1 Jan 1878 in New Orleans and had 6 girls..Anna Marie Margarita Ulmer, Sphia Alvina Ulmer, Josephina Johana Ulmer, Lydia Cecilia Ulmer, Ruth Concordia Ulmer. Henry had a sister Mary who married David Grote 21 Apr 1877. Henry was born 12 Mar 1856, New Orleans and died 6 May 1893 in New Orleans.Father lived in New Orleans but was the immigrant. I am not aware of any of my relatives living in ME but it coud be that some of them did move there. I'll keep that info in my search. What years are we talking about here? Was the cemetery very large and were there alot of Ulmers? That was very kind of you to clean up the place for them, thank you for that.

There was an Ulmer family in Rockland, Me. My father
remembered them because they had a Negro driver and
were considered to be wealthy. I used to clean up their
family cemetary at the end of Pleasant St as it looked
so forgotten. My relatives-the Derbys lived on Pleasant
St but they are all deceased. I haven't been back to Me
since 1980 so I don't know what's left of that little
cemetary.

The Ulmer cemetary was very small, headstones broken, etc. If u check the 1910 Federal Census, Rockland, ME
Ward 7, Knox County one would think the whole town consisted of Ulmers!
The only person might be able to give u more info is
JAMES BRANNAN,ESQ of Limerock St. Rockland. He is a very busy and well known lawyer so I don't know how receptive
he would be to this genealogy "stuff." He grew up on Pleasant Street--that is now a trailer park.
Let me know how u make out.
