I would be grateful if you could provide me with any information you have obtained on the ancestors of Solomon and Rebecca Grabiner,the parents of Sarah (Grabiner) Unger. I am also a great great granson of Solomon and Rabecca Grabiner.
We have established that Rebecca was born in Poland? in 1845 and died in 1918 in Chicago USA. She was married to Solomon Grabiner born c 1835 and died 26th May 1907 in Chicago area USA. Solomons father was Tzvi Hersz Grabiner and Rebecca's father was Joseph Murslowitch.

They had 5 children William, Benjamin, Sarah , Samuel and Morris who was my my great grandfather. Morris settle in London UK
Sarah was married to Simon Unger who I believe was your great grand father.

If you wish I can provide further information on the descendants of Morris Grabiner who settled in London and was Sarah's brother.

I am related to the Beeby's in that my great-great-aunt married a G A Beeby. I know nothing of the prior family of my great-great-aunt's husband. My aunt's grandson, a Beeby himself, his wife has a family tree and some pages on this website, you should look them up. And you should consult the pages of the Families in British India Society website.

I am not sure but I could be related to you, as on the Beeby side of the family. In my family tree I have Alice Amelia Speechly married to Samuel Beeby, her parents were Samuel and Charlotte Speechly nee German.
Alice had a sister Louise and brothers Daniel,Fredrick Edward Speechly. Do this family belong to you in your family tree. They are all born in India, and I am not sure about Samuel Beeby where he was born.

There was a Mary Ethel Unger b. Jul 1882 in Texas who married Theodore Austin Tharp b. 14 May 1878 in Arkansas and they lived in Yukon, Oklahoma they had the following children Vera, Alva, Evelyn, Thelma, Vernon and Billie. I know they are there in the 1920 and 1930 census. They are sometimes listed as Thorp. I have information on the Tharp line if you are interested.

I am searching for my Unger Family Line.

Heinrich/Henry Unger was born Nov. 26, 1852, in Elberfeld Germany (suburb of Dusseldorf). He married in Germany in 1874, to Maria Schermann (spelling of maiden name may be incorrect). He Immigrated to the US in 1885 and became an American Citizen on October 22, 1891. He and Maria had 8 known children. Heinrich/Henry died on May 25, 1915 in Buffalo NY and is buried at Concordia Cemetery.

Any help and/or shared info. is greatly appreciated.

He was the oldest child of 6 children from his father's first marriage. His mother died when he was six. While a metalwork apprentice at 19 years of age
he became a member of the MB church. In 1951 they settled in Coaldale AB.
Peter used his mother's maiden name of Giesbrecht for a middle initial - he
was known as Peter G. Unger

In an interview with daughter Liese on 29 July 2008, Liese recalled something about village #55 and reported the name as Gnadental, where they lived. In
Huebert & Schroeders Mennonite Historical Atlas 1996 on page 132 & 49, 50 they describe the establishment of this area. The Fuenfziger Settlement includes Gnadenthal. Peter was a blacksmith. Tina Unger 764512 recalls Peter telling Dave & her about his life there. He received 40 hectares of land from the Oberschulze Jacob A. Reimer (? 768540) which he traded for a blacksmith
business. A few years later he approached Jacob for land and was denied.
Tina nee Reimer reports "he never liked me, because I was a Reimer girl".

Only 200 settlers from this area managed to emigrate out to North America (Canada or Mexico) in the 1920's.
Margareta:
Tina Reimer Unger 764512 recalls hearing Peter say that Margareta died in Siberia of an infection such as Diptheria or Typhoid. Liese was about 6 months old.

IN an Interview with Helen Esau Ho on 29 June 2008 Liese recalls some details of her life. She recalls being very young when her mother had to run the farm in Gnadental when her father was doing his servcie in the forest ? during the war she thinks? One day when she was about 6 her mother, sister and her visited her father in the forest and they found it so beautiful. She recalls the squirrels. She remembers coming to Canada in 1925 to Rosthern SK. At the age of 16, she found it difficult to be working outiside the home in unfamiliar jobs. She received $10 a month. Her Father relied on this money. She mentions her sister with affection and admiration - a sense of loss that she is already gone. She speaks fondly of her children that her and John adopted - driving to Calgary to "pick them up".

David Unger 764510 recalls that Eva was in prison for some years. He remebers when she came back to Schoenau as she stayed with his Mother. She demonstrated a skill she had learned in prison to "crochet with her fingers" instead of
needles. She married late in life to a widower with a daughter (perhaps in her early teens).David recalls the wedding celebrations as it was before he and his Mother moved to Alexanderfeld.

night and I was afraid. I stayed at her place about 4 hours and then travelled back"

Tina Ungers notes of an interview with Peter G. Unger seem to record Lenche as the name of this person and a estimated Birthdate of 1895. David Unger recalls living on the family yard in Schoenau until her was 9 or 10 years old (his mother moved back to Alexanderfeld to her family after her husband was exiled) In Schoenau, Helena and her child lived in the big house while David's parents lived in the "yard house". David does not recall ever meeting Mr. Voth so beleives he was "taken" either before his birth or age of recollection. David does recall Helena selling 1/2 her "yard" to have money to live.

I am connected to two Unger families. Only because of Stalin's genocide, I cannot find the link. Perhaps we can help each other?

I am looking for more information on a Peter Unger born about 1858 in Suworowka, Geb Nikol which was a daughter colony of Sagradovka. He died in 1932 in Schoenau Sagradovka where he had property. His parents were David and Eva.

The other thread is a Peter Unger born 1753 in Prussia died 1818 in Insel Chortiza, son Heinrich 1786-1855, grandson Peter 1812 (Einlage)-1888 (Steinbach MB)

I'm looking for information on my grandfather's birth family. He was born Horace Unger in either 1895 (most likely), or 1893 in Richmond, Virginia. He was raised by his grandparents, William and Lucy Kanary (Canary) and later took their last name.

Family rumor says that his mother died in childbirth. I've found a marriage certificate for one of the Kanary daughters, Madeline (b. abt 1879 in Richmond) and John Unger (b. abt 1874 in Richmond to John W. & Adaline Unger). The marriage was performed in Richmond on July 24, 1895....four days before my grandfather was born, so I'm not certain that this is really his mother. I haven't found a birth record for my grandfather, or a death record for Madeline Kanary. Those records may be lost.

If anybody has information about these two families, I'd sure like to compare notes!

Do you have any relation that live in the US? My G-G-G Grandfather was John Unger, born in Berks County, PA ca1800. He married Mary Elizabeth Faust ca1923 in Columbia County, PA. I have no other information on him - who his parents were, where they came from or if he had any brother/sisters.
Also, since you live in Austria, could you possibly translate (or have translated) the Unger Motto "Recte favenda securitas"? My brother and I have been trying for a couple years to figure out what it means with no luck.

Elizabeth Amelia Unger lived in British India in at least the 1880s and 90s. She married first a Mr Kennedy and second Daniel William Beglin, a railway official about 1882.

They lived at Sholapur in the state of Maharashtra. Which was an important junction on the north-south railway line.

E A Unger and Mr Beglin had at least three children:

1. Christina Violet Daisy Beglin born in 1884 at Sholapur.

2. Isabella Rosaline Beglin (also known as Rosalie Isabel) born in 1887 at Sholapur and died in 1983 at Glasgow, Scotland. She married George Albert Beeby, a railway official.

3. John Arthur Beglin, a millwright, born in 1890, died in 1972 at Stewarton, outside Glasgow, Scotland. He married at Glasgow in 1932 Mary Neilson Murdoch (1901-1975).

Although Christina and Isabella Beglin were baptised at Sholapur, their brother J A Beglin brought up his own children in the 1930s and 40s in the Jewish faith, and as 'Unger' can be an Ashkenazic Jewish surname, it is unclear what religion or ethnic origin E A Unger had.

Anyone also researching Unger and Beglin in British India, please get in touch, as anyone who has info on E A Unger or how to trace her marriage and death certificates. Full searches have been made of British marriages and deaths in the United Kingdom.

Came to the United States from Rhineland Germany, was a cabinet maker by trade, was studying for the Priesthood, live for a time in Tarentum and made coffins and furniture there. Then, moved to a farm along the Red bank Creek (East Side), about one mile upstream from Lawsonham. Came to the United States in 1846 or 47 followed by.

Catherine (Katrine Sebour) Unger, born Feb. 24, 1824. Died Aug. 24, 1894. While in a convent in Germany studying to be a Nun met Andrew Unger, and as their religion forbib marriage. She came to the United States from Bavaria Germany, about two years after he arrived in the United States and were married here. Had 9 Children. Married 1847

Hi Paul...My Grandfather was born in Austria his name was Gregor Unger born March 12,1882..he came to Nazerath,Pa in the 1900's..i as doing research on his back ground...who his mother and father was...if he had a brother or sister...noone seams to know....After he came here he married Helen Garman Feb 7,1914 and they had 13 children...I am hoping one day to hit the jackpot..when it come to getting the information i need...thanks Rose
